Rare Anoynmous Phoenix Posted October 21, 2023 #26 Share Posted October 21, 2023 If you see a lower price than you paid you should do a mock booking. You will OFTEN find that the cheaper price is for a SAILAWAY cabin, the old Guarantee, with fewer perks.

He didn't say it, but it is a rather key piece of information he conveniently left out. Besides, my reply was not directed to the OP...it was a general observation in case people were unaware that this can be done after final payment. I don't either unless it appears they have left out relevant information.

I'll stick with NCL. Their low refundable deposits, and easy re-fares before final payment, are about a good a deal as it gets. Have only taken 1 NCL cruise but ready to book another one. I wasn't aware they had refundable deposits, are the deposits refundable up to final payment or some other schedule?

Actually, so is the rest of the fare, for that matter, based on this schedule. https://www.ncl.com/no/en/about/cancellation-fee-schedule-mea

Who knows why searches sometimes pick up foreign sites, it happens. Especially if you're traveling. First clue is the /no/en in the web address - means Norway/english Second clue is by the final payment date, 120 days, for US bookings.

grammieL Posted October 22, 2023 #38 Share Posted October 22, 2023 We are diamond latitudes. Our cruise on the Encore last February dropped $525 after final payment. Our PCC was able to get us a FCC. We didn't even call and ask for it. Had one year to use it. Applied it to our February 2024 cruise

Don't care for them so I only book IX Sail Away Inside cabins. Works for me space and fare wise. I have booked as late as 4 days before sailing. Plus I don't do cruises less than 10 days in length which gets me a better per day cost. It's great to be retired!

My normal experience is once you pass final payment date, you are out of luck. However, for my next cruise (12-day Australia/New Zealand) the price of our balcony dropped by about 30%. I asked my TA if we could get anything, and we will receive a FCC for the difference after we complete the cruise. I am very happy with that outcome. Edited to add we are sapphire status. The upcoming cruise will be our 4th in 12 months. They may be treating us nicely for that reason. Edited December 13, 2023 by itsnotjustme

With the exception of one, we have always booked our cruises only after final payment date. We've always saved money compared to those that booked before. There are definitely outliers, but I hope everyone continues booking before final payment, so that we get the deals after! Of course we're not picky on where we sail from, where we go, or when we go, so we can find those price drops!
complawyer Posted December 13, 2023 #47 Share Posted December 13, 2023 hey cruiseny. i usually agree with your position, and as i recall you are a travel agent. if youre not picky as to time, place etc, it will work for you. my wife and i are picky, and we've been spoiled. i try and book a suite whenever possible, because we like the idea of a butler, and i dont want to miss out on a cabin i really want. so i try and book as early as possible. i had a middle east booked ago for october that ended in tel aviv. unfortunately, i had to cancel. right now we're booked on the trans atlantic rio to lisbon. we got a great deal (or so i believe ) on a 2 bedroom suite. 17 day cruise, the suite was 5600, less my military discount, less my wife's casino at sea discount, and less $500 cruise certificate i had forgotten about. im also planning on booking the 14 day carribbean round trip from miami , jan 2025. by the way, if i can be presumptuous, can you tell me the simplest way to get a brazillian passport? if it doesnt violate cc rules

Your wife may not allow this though. And, you're right. Trust me! I work with my family and some of them are extremely picky! Ha, my style sure won't work for them, but I do know how to advise them properly. Sometimes I may want to be snarky, because well...it's me and I'm a snarky almost old dude. 17 days? I want a 17 day Transatlantic! Sounds like you got one heck of a deal. That won't be in the cards for me. I was away from work for two weeks and that seems to have bother people (even though it was unpaid time). Next time...well next time, it'll hopefully be a place with a wee bit more vacation time allotted to me. Seriously though! Rio to Lisbon sounds great!! Especially as I am sure you'll be making a bookend vacation out of it. You only need to learn one language too.
complawyer Posted December 13, 2023 #49 Share Posted December 13, 2023 well, i'll be 76 and my wife 75 when we sail in april and retired, so 17 days isnt a burden. yes, we're booked into the sheraton grand rio prior to sailing, and i'll probably book the sheraton lisbon when is arrive. we try to stay in embarkation/disembarkation cities whenever we cruise. and i am a snarky old dude and getting snarkier (is that even a word) day by day. if you have 14 days available, we're looking at a 14 day cruise round trip from miami to miami jan 3rd to 17th 2025 on the pearl. prices are just ok, but they go to islands i love, barbados, st lucia, grenada, st maarten, antigua etc. . st lucia has always been on my bucker list. maybe this cruise will interest you. if so, the 1st drink is on me.
