He'll be the only one in the next year from Texas who plays blackjack on a Galveston ship with a happy wife born after '44. And even then, I'm sometimes grumpy. So maybe the casino will see me being grumpy and think the one they are watching for isn't DH. You were 44 when you created the handle?

Oh, I was wondering where the idea that I was born in '44 came from. No, HappyTexan was already taken so I just mashed the number keypad to make it unique. 1

Unless you are at a higher limit table you are getting 6:5 payout on BJ with a few exceptions. Unfortunately it is the new standard. 3:2 is just a fond memory along with those $1 steak and eggs. Sad. We'll always have the memories though.
Rare Tree_skier Posted November 21, 2023 #104 Share Posted November 21, 2023 A little off topic but... How does the Black Jack tournament work. What is the buy in. What kind of prizes are there for winners?

What kind of prizes are there for winners? I can’t recall the buyin amount but I tried it last year on Oasis. I hated it. It isn’t normal blackjack. You have so many rounds of play (not very many) I can’t recall the amount and you need to make as much in chips as possible and the people with the highest proceed. You can keep buying in for a while. If you do the math the payout is awful. I swore never again. I wish I had watched more before participating.

They have multiple rounds & the top 7 players with the highest chip totals play off in the final for the cash prize.

For some reason I thought the buy in was much higher.

You were probably thinking about the poker tournament which is $100.

When I started playing BJ in Vegas about 20 years ago, the rules were very player friendly. House odds were less than 1%. About the only big house edge was dealer hitting soft 17. Now, no early surrender, 6:5 BJ payout, the house edge is probably doubled. But I play for fun. I learned to count, but I can't count and play properly at the same time. 😄 But when I was learning counting, we were waiting for a show, so I was watching a table from the start of the shoe. The entire play of that shoe was house positive count, but the players all were winning constantly. Counting does not mean you will win. It just means the odds are slightly in YOUR favor.
