Thanks for sharing this article and its existence.  I thought this was a good article - better than normal for a non-cruise source.

Time to try NCL even though I am Elite plus with Celebrity.  Based on principle alone I refuse to pay more than double the cost.

Hi Charla!!!  As you know, ANY reason is a good reason to cruise… even spite!😀. I think I might take the Hawaii cruise and treat it as my “swan song” to Celebrity!  This is crazy, but I was thinking about you this morning.  I am on the Ascent on 1/28, booked a year ago when life for solo travelers on Celebrity was still good.  I thought, maybe, just maybe 🤞 Charla will be aboard to check out the new Ascent.  I just found your wrap up post on the Beyond so I know that won’t be the case.  Hoping that when you do select your next adventure that you let all of us know where we can follow along.

I’m sorry for your loss.  Good luck in getting through a busy January at work AND dry January as well.  You are a stronger woman than me!😀. I will toast you on 1/28…maybe more than once!!

Thank you so much! Unfortunately we are going to be cruise missing each other by a matter of days again!

Jeremy and I actually just booked a basic veranda (the last non-retreat room available on the whole ship) on the 2/3 Reflection southern Caribbean sailing!

The holiday season was really hard on us and it’s been a tough recovery. We figured a cruise may be just what we need to relax and get our heads right again. Plus I can’t think of a better way to celebrate being done with dry January than to spend a week with the martini bar!

Enjoy Ascent! I can’t wait to hear what you think of her!

My thoughts exactly, my husband was like 'why don't you do dry Feb instead of Jan' I had to remind him I was on a 12 day cruise in Feb so dry Jan it is 🤣

I will definitely not consider booking Celebrity as a solo or double as long as they keep this up. It is really just one thing too many. If I have learned anything in post-pandemic cruising, it is loyalty to no brand. In the past I have always had a favorite cruise line and tended to stick with that - now I consider everyone and choose based on itinerary, price, amenities & other inclusions or perks.

To be honest I was very impressed with NCL. Had written them off years ago. They have certainly made some cutbacks from what they used to do, particularly in the entertainment department, but what cruise line has not changed. I cancelled 4 Celebrity retreat bookings and moved them to the Haven.

I'm onboard and spoke to Future Cruise about this. She suggested booking a cabin mate as a work around - so even Celebrity's employees are encouraging us to work around the new policy.

If it's revenue Celebrity is worried about, they can either have the double occupancy rate or nothing. Their choice. I'm certainly not inclined to spend more on board given the new policy!

Totally agree with you. I am sure their employees know it is a ridiculous ask - especially when absolutely no other cruise line tries to do this. I can understand paying the double occupancy price, as much as it hurts every time I do it. But paying more (and substantially more at that) is just totally illogical. I am sure the future cruise people hate this, it must be killing their solo sales.

I totally agree, if 2x is not good enough, then they can just sell to someone else. Hopefully when enough of us vote with our wallets they will change their minds.

Just book for two passengers. Take your friend George Glass who has something suddenly come up and doesn’t show up for the cruise.

back when I single I used to do exactly this as I found as a single I was always getting the short end of the stick for a lot of stuff I booked. I did a whole 8 week vacation in Europe with everything (except flights) booked as double and it didn't cost anything extra and on a few items was cheaper.

Thanks, Charla! I hope you and Jeremy have a blast!  One of these days we will meet….just maybe not on Celebrity!😀

I posted on the other thread but for those that aren't on that one:

Maybe positive sign - I did a few test bookings for Winter 2024 and it looks like solos are actually discounted slightly (looked at Eclipse and apex in November) and substantially discounted in retreat cabins with a 2K-3K savings. I thought maybe they backtracked but over the summer of 2024 and everything I found still has the extra surcharge for solos.

Looking into 2025 summer months still have the surcharge, but winter 2025 looks to have the

Also, when booking thorough the consumer website I waws not able to add a refundable deposit option to solo retreat bookings but could still do it on the TA side.

Not sure if this is a glitch or an intentional change on their part, but any solos looking at winter sailings I would suggest trying to nab one ASAP.

The winter sailings that have discounted solo pricing have a promo code "SINGLES" attached to it. Summer sailings have the "RET 2PK SGL" or "NOPERK SGL" promo.

Where do the promo codes come from?
