And yes, the minimal risk mitigation done by The Bird is to place a luggage tag on the top and side handles of luggage. Costs nothing and mitigates the risk of one tag going missing and having to spend time in the unclaimed luggage office (naughty room).

How many times has that happened to you?

Yes, there are those that roll their multiple bags on to the ship and carry them around until the room is ready at 2:00+ pm.  What fun is that?

Some will do practically anything to avoid having to tip the porters.

Happened to me on my very first cruise.  I didn't fly to the port, attached the tags at home (before I had the plastic sleeves with metal rings to attach them) and somewhere between the drop off and the ship both the cruise tag and my usual ID tag got detached from the bag.  I was at GS at 9 at night to locate my bag...

Paper tags with staples/tape?  That could do it.

Or, did you forget to tip the porter?

Yes, following cruise line directions!  Interesting how that works.  I since have gotten the plastic sleeves with wire loops to hold them on the bags.

Yeah, we all did that when we were newbies.  Now we spend $7 at Amazon and get the bullet proof ones.

Yet, for some mysterious and amazing reason, there are still some nervous know-it-alls that use fifteen of those on each bag.🤣

Still wondering...who the heck tore off your tags that was NOT an airline?

Properly attached, they are not all that easy to yank off.

I got a set of 6 for $5.

They were less than for a set of 4 (same tags).  😲

All very interesting, but inquiring minds want to know about this on board luggage storage for carry on luggage until cabin is ready. Hadn't previously heard of this.

Some passengers have medical devices / miscellaneous health items not suitable for a back packs so are packed in carry on luggage that would not be left with a porter but would leave in onboard storage.

On my two latest cruises, Star and Gem, the Bliss lounge was available for storage. Didn't check it out any further since I only had my small backpack.

I, personally, have never lost a bag because I always have two tags on my bags.

I have been to the land of lost luggage several times and you would be surprised on the number of bags that have missing tags looking for owners.

🤷‍♂️. No idea, the tag was there and stapled when it was handed to the porters.  My current ID tags for regular travel are MUCH more robust now and they make it easier to spot the bag on the belt.

Most ships are offering bag drops. On our last cruise, it was just a corner of the casino floor.

By "medical devices", if you mean a CPAP, ours are always in our checked luggage. We sail 6-7 times a year and fly a couple of times a month with our CPAPs in checked luggage.

Attached per the cruise line instructions, they are a piece of paper with a staple in the end. Anyone brushing against those tags could cause them to rip off.

When I first used them, years ago, i scoffed at the concept.

But the multiple (folded) layers turned into a surprising strong object.

I never use less than two staples. One is an invitation to destruction.

I suspect some of the issues with the staples stem from those who put the tags on the bags prior to leaving for the airport.  I've heard some airport baggage handlers will remove any extraneous tags to reduce confusion.

I would expect that.

However, not per hallux (see #37)

Yup - that first one (and second for that matter) was Royal Caribbean from Cape Liberty, only a 3 hour drive from home...

With your cruising schedule, seems like you may be overdue.   😟

Have you been to the room of lost bags with missing tags?

Like the mainstream media, you seemed to have taken the quote out of context by conveniently deleting the rest of the post. Fake news.

Yeah right.  Most of those bags (other than yours) are there because of contraband spotted in the x-ray (or people who used the paper/staple "recommended" approach).  Nobody went to bed without their jammies.
