Random NCL ?s

Recommended Posts

1. Does my registered NCL name need to exactly match my passport? My passport shows my middle name, and my NCL account does not. I am being told by a family member that I need to change my NCL registered name to include my middle name.

2. We will be on the Jewel in late June. The only entertainment on the ship is Le Cirque Bijou, Rock You Tonight, and Deal or No Deal. Do I need to register in the app 21 days prior? What times are the shows typically? We have three dinner reservations at either 6:00 pm or 6:30 pm.

3. I’m pretty certain we are going to upgrade to FAS+. I understand we will be eligible for $100 credit for two excursions that we are registered for. Is this refundable or nonrefundable OBC? Thinking of using it in the spa?

Thank you kindly!

The name on the RESERVATION needs to match your documents. What you NCL online account has is irrelevant.

On the Jewel, you do not need to make reservations for any entertainment. It is all first-come-first-serve.

If you have already booked 2 ShoreEx, the first $50 should have already been deducted from the cost of the excursion (check your Shore Excursion receipt). You can get the additional $50 deducted once you book the upgrade. If you book a ShoreEx onboard, the $50 credit is deducted from the shore ex price AFTER you complete the shore excursion.

No, the NCL reservation. Thank you for making that very obvious distinction 😜 I just called them and added our middle names to the reservation. Better safe than sorry, and it was rather painless! TY!

When will my room be assigned? We have a guaranteed ocean picture window. TY!

Could be weeks before the cruise could be two days before or the day of the cruise, depending if they oversold it.

My boarding pass online has my middle name but not my husband's.  Our passports both have middle names.  I think the middle name was "optional" when entering the info.  Are you saying I have to have our reservation changed to include my husband's middle name?

Your excursion credit is for excursions, it’s not obc to be used for anything, like the spa. You will get the credit only after the excursion completed.

Unless you're booking flights, it doesn't really matter, but if you're still outside the final payment period, you should just call NCL and add your husband's middle name. It'll make things easier (mostly your worry). If you're inside final payment, still call, but be sure to ask if there will be a fee as some changes after final payment do incur a fee. The fee can be waived, but it isn't always. I've had the fee waived. And I've paid the fee.

We booked our flights separately.  Final payment has already been made as we are cruising March 17th.

No fee was mentioned to me. I just called and asked them to add our middle names to the reservation. They were happy to do so and sent an updated reservation document reflecting the change. We are also past final payment date.

We have never had our middle names (yes two, long ones) added on our cruise reservation. And they are never also on our flight tickets. Never had any problem as long as the last name and first name match with our passport first and last names. It would be actually impossible to have all my names added on the flight reservations/tickets as my first name + two middle names + last name are all together 45 character long 😅 The reservation systems simply don’t even allow that many characters on the name field. I should know, I worked over 20 years at different airlines reservations departments 🤭

Obviously our ESTA and such official documents include our middle names too and are 100% the same as in our passports. But for flight and cruise (and hotel reservations and such): only first and last name needed.

I'm glad this came up and I read your post!  Still not sure its a big deal, I read very conflicting info about it online, but regardless I will try to take care of it.  We were assigned an NCL travel agent(?) but ended up booking ourselves online.  I contacted her asking about it, otherwise I will call and ask.  Funny thing is, we ALWAYS use my husband's middle name because his name is rather common.  Yet for some reason I didn't (apparently) when I signed us up.  🤦‍♀️

i think it actually does, because when the manifest is given to various governmental agencies pre-arrival, they check the names against names on the passports... same as they do with flying.

i've often joked that everybody on NCL is a likely presidential assassin. whenever they call your name for a poker or slot tournament, or to "come on down" on "the price is right," it's always three names... "john wilkes booth, come on down, you're the next contestant on 'the price is right.'"  "lee harvey oswald, we're holding seat # 7 for you in our slot tournament. is lee harvey oswald in the casino?"

You're right that it absolutely may matter. I do know the first three cruises we went on, my middle name wasn't on the reservation and I was fine. BUT, you are correct that there is a possibility (I have no idea if it's a low, medium, or high percent) someone could be denied boarding if the names don't match exactly with the documentation. Once we booked BOGO flights, I started including my middle name. Even though I have most definitely reserved flight tickets without my middle name, I felt that I should have it on there as that's what my passport says.

So, I can say I've not been denied boarding for lack of middle name, but it is a best practice to include your middle name so you have the experience you describe as NCL announces for you "to come on down!"

Thought I'd report back.  I did call NCL over my lunch and they were able to add husband's middle name.  She didn't confirm one way or another if it was REQUIRED to be the same, but her words were "should be" and "NCL recommends" that they are the same. It may have been easier because we had cruised NCL before so they had his full name already in the system.  For whatever reason, it wasn't booked with his Latitudes number when I did the original booking, so they added that as well.  They were able to keep his check in, but I did have to re-enter a few things.  The only glitch I can see, and maybe it will get cleared up on it's own (I can't see the E-docs just yet), is that it is showing a balance due for his two excursions we booked - which we had already paid in full.  I'm sure that part didn't carry over on the account with the name change, but I feel confident on getting that fixed. I was much more concerned about the name and not being able to board!!

After this thread, you're so not going to like me. At all!

Be sure you constantly follow up with NCL regarding the balance due. I know you've paid in full and are probably ok. BUT, NCL has been known to cancel cruises that show a balance due. Just be as proactive as you possibly can. Chat with an agent tonight and ask them to fix it. Call them tomorrow. When I see balance due come up, after final payment, knowing everything has been paid, I become a hawk. I bother NCL about this constantly until it is resolved. I'm not having my cruise canceled for their mistake!

Ok, now, know that it's probably just a glitch in their system and you'll be ok. Sorry if I just raised your blood pressure a bit.

I suggest contacting NCL to make sure you have a zero balance owed immediately. I wouldn't want to risk the reservation being cancelled because of that.

Ha!  No, I appreciate the tips and advice!  I am keeping an eye on it and will check again in a bit.  I will definitely call or chat to get that cleared up,  Maybe it's not letting me see our E-docs because of the balance due.........

When did you finish check-in? Just a couple hours ago? In my experience, E-Docs are usually available 24 - 72 hours after checking in. It's never been automatic. You'd think it would be. Or it could be the balance due. Or a glitch. Or a combination of everything. With NCL's IT, you never know.

To be safe, I started on online chat.  She could see the "merger" of my husband's account that caused his shore excursions to show up again as amount due.  She said I have to call Shore Excursions dept to have that fixed.  Hopefully that won't be a big mess. In hindsight, should have just had the person on the phone add his middle name, not merge the booking to his Latitudes account from the previous cruise.  Friends travelling with us just had to do the same thing and it was done instandtly.

More questions, ha!

I just got an email stating I am upgrade eligible. When I click on the link it says:

Balcony Stateroom - $75/pp

Club Balcony Suite - $100/pp

So that means for either $150 or $200 TOTAL I can upgrade us from ocean view to balcony?

I am traveling with my son and we need two beds. What are balcony room bed configurations? TY!

It means you can BID to upgrade. Does not guarantee that you will get it. I guess I should say that is if the email mentioned bidding. I've never personally seen an email that just says pay this and you upgrade automatically without bidding against other people.

A balcony will have a queen that can be split into two twins and a sofa bed.

Another update - had to call shore excursions, but they understood the problem and immediate took care of the balance due and it now shows a zero balance again.  Still can't see my E-docs, but she said that could take 15 min or so.  Hopefully this is a done deal, I guess I will never forget to include our middle names again (we normally do, so I'm not sure what I did).
