This was way too short! The Jewel class is my favorite NCL class of ship. It doesn't have all the amenities of a big ship, but it has a nice spa, bar city, O'Sheehans/The Local, etc. I'll be on the Jewel for 13 days next month from Japan to Alaska. 

 

Venezia was also my favorite Carnival ship. Everything felt so new and I liked the Italian flair. The Amari bar was the best spot to do some damage. Deck 11 above the pool is a great, quiet place to relax. And the Pergola Bar never gets busy up there!

yeah, I’m with you on Jewel class! I liked Breakaway a lot too but didn’t like the pool area and the bars were always slammed like this cruise. There’s definitely a massive jump between Sun and Jewel class, while the Jewel class still has a lot of the “new” stuff the big ships do. 
 

I’m so glad you said that!! From video tours I’ve watched I specifically noted the Pergola Bar as a place that looks super inviting and off the beaten path.

Ouch!  When does "delayed" turn into canceled?  Can the airline keep kicking the can or is there a point that they have to pony up money? Sorry this is happening.

your guess is as good as mine. I’ve been canceled before, I’ve been delayed til after midnight, I’ve been offered vouchers, and most recently I was allowed to change to a flight the following day for free because the delay was getting excessive. No idea in this case. We’re up a to 12:11 CDT arrival now.

Well, the good(?) news is the incoming plane has take off from Chicago. Hopefully their delay is all that's holding you up.

Wow I used to be a fan of SW but after flying other airlines for about the same price and I can select my seat I have switched.  

I don't have the patience for those delays...you are a much better person than me.

living in Dallas, SWA is just super convenient and easy for domestic flights, and I’ve had good luck and years of experience with the cattle call… but the past couple years have been rough for sure, the Christmas week debacle in ‘22 at the forefront

Getting antsy and the time is moving back in the right direction, so Fransisco’s got me. I had an incident once when the airline delayed me by an hour or so but then just basically said “never mind, we’re putting this flight on a new plane” and we left on time. Ever since then I’ve been just a little wary of buying 100% into delays when I’m not at the airport yet

Your delays are probably weather related in the Dallas area-- heavy storm warning, flash floods, etc.--NOTHING GOOD.

aw man I thought we were done with that stuff! Turns out my plane was a couple hours late getting out of Chicago, maybe there’s something up there too

If MIA terminal G isn’t the worst terminal in a major American airport, I never want to see what is. At least I’m sweating profusely too. Lucky for me everyone around me is too.

This brings back memories.  Last year had a 6pm flight day before a cruise, last flight of the day and got the dreaded Delayed text just as we stepped out of the Uber at the airport.

Then another, and another, and another. No communication from gate agents. By 9 pm I didn't know if I should protectively book something early for the next morning or what. Went up to ask the gate agents advice and she told me the plane got held up because of a tornado but was on it's way.

Sigh of relief, the plane is coming. Finally around 11pm plane arrives and people get off. And we wait, and wait, and wait wondering why aren't we boarding. Finally they announce the pilots have timed out and can't fly the plane. Panic sets in. Then they announce another plane is landing that has pilots that can fly our plane, just another short wait and we will be off.

We didn't get to Miami until after 3 in the morning but we made it. I was really surprised it wasn't cancelled.

omg, I went through a very similar saga once! It’s so stressful! I think it’s the lack of communication more than anything.

So I make it through security and go through the big body scanner machine… I come out, the TSA agent sighs, and says “sir, I’m sorry for you and for me….” (I think he’s joking with me at this point) “….but I’m going to have to do is physical search of you in these areas. I look at the screen, and the little man is glowing bright red exclusively in the crotch and…. Back crotch. 
 

 

He puts on gloves and asks me if I want to do this in private…. I just looked down and mumbled “Nah… it’s fine right here”

when air travel is involved, it’s never over til it’s over. At least if I’m on your flight.
