Alghero, Sardinia & Ajaccio, Corsica

Will be on QV for 14 days in September and not familiar with these two ports.

My previous visit to Sardinia was Cagliari.

The listed excursions though inexpensive don’t seem particularly interesting.

Anyone have experience with these ports?

Walkable, private tours, things not to miss, etc.?

Thanks for any input.

I know Ajaccio, the usual mooring is very close to the town centre, closer than Southampton is to the Mayflower Terminal. Probably the most pleasant thing to do is to just walking around the town centre, calling into a few cafés and shops along the way. There are quite a lot of small family run shops there, so it's not all big name brands. It's on a bit of a slope if you go further into the town. The usual tourist attractions here are Napoleon's home, Maison Bonaparte, and the cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption. There's a separate museum dedicated to all things Napoleon and you can't ever escape from the guy.

The one thing I would add, particularly if it's mid morning, is the public market (Marché d'Ajaccio) which is right by the port. I'd have a few cash euros spare to buy citrus, tomatoes that taste of tomatoes, and local cheeses. They won't mind selling you small quantities. If you think you may buy a bigger chunk of cheese, they will usually offer a small sample for you to check first.
