so basically getaway is getting an enclosed casino and new BBQ place?

Also supposed to be removing the hardwood flooring in Tropicana, main dining room, due to the removal of the production show Burn the Floor.  No replacement production show.

I hope you get to leave on time for your cruise! Where do you find out about dry docks? I only knew of this from this thread. I can’t find it anywhere online. I listen to cruise news all the time and there was no mention of it.

This dry dock has never been acknowledged by Miami. Up until late last year there were cruises listed on the NCL web site during this time period. Then the cruises just disappeared.  CC folks found out about the dry dock by talking to Getaway staff during cruises over this past winter and reported on CC.

Interesting. Thanks. I feel better knowing that because I was feeling pretty stupid for not being able to find it online.

If you want, I can show you where to find any NCL ship's dry dock date, but it requires getting to a technical website, and knowing how to navigate there.  I can give steps, if interested.  The Getaway will have an underwater survey about 30-36 months from now (so likely done in service, and no refurbishments), and the next drydock will be May 2029.

If I see a thread with dry dock in the title, I'll look at it, and if needed, I can look up their dates.

No, it's not just you.

I believe the Q stands for "Queasy"...which is how I felt the first (and last) time we ate there.

So did BBQ replace something else?

It was a venue that used to have magic shows, I think.  I’ve only been on the Getaway once this past January. I don’t know if they used that space for anything during my cruise.

You're right. Folks should expect last minute changes. I also believe that your Getaway cruise was cut short in 2019. But, you are the only person I've ever heard refer to a cruise being cut short due to a dry dock. Was your situation an anomaly or am I missing a lot of reports regarding cruises cut short?

At last! This is the pic so many of us embarking tomorrow did want to see! 🤩👏🏻

Two questions regarding this "somewhat convoluted" (to put it mildly) itinerary.

1. Anybody has had the reservation updated to include the promised US$100,00 OBC? As of today it does not show up on mine.

2. Is it 100% confirmed that Le Havre has been replaced by La Coruna? I have seen reports of guests having received a mail about this but I have not received it.

Thank you! 😀

Oooh I’ve not had that email either - kinda hoping it is La Coruna as the weather will be better. But no biggie.
I have been told that the OBC is applied at embarkation. So I’ll be keeping an eye on that!

Looking at the deck plans, the Illusionarium is in the same location Q is on the ships that have Q.  On the bright side, for those that liked the Broadway event in that venue, I've seen similar in Q on another ship so it may come there as well.  Q on the ships that have had it as a full specialty restaurant also have a stage in there.

On to another subject (but somehow connected to the recent NCL's/Getaway's string of "unfortunate events"), neither the webpage nor the app will let me do restaurant reservations. However, there is a link now (do not remember having seen it before) to updated menus for the specialty restaurants. The date on these menus is June 2024, so I guess we will probably be a bit of feedback lab critters for the company after this cruise.

Gone are the Oysters Rockefeller, the Tuna Tartar and the Porterhouse at Cagney's. Replacement for the two gone starters is Thick Cut Bacon. 🙄

At Le Bistro no more foie on top of the Rossini Filet Mignon and also no more Scallops.

I get it. Cutbacks. But...where is the thin red line between a great and an average offering? We will see...

Ooooo....(they weren't good anyway), but no more potatoes au gratin at Cagney's either! It'll be interesting to see the other changes as I peruse the menus.

No more Crab Cake at Ocean Blue, but oddly still at Cagney's. 😄

Wow, never seen that but I'm no expert.  But it does say 'winch only'.

Means the rescue/medevac helicopters cannot land, so they use cable/winch to ferry people up/down.

Yea...finally a cutback I can agree with. Liver goop is nasty...but paying an extra $10 for it is even nastier. Although, from recent reports, sounds like they dropped the goop and kept the $10 upcharge. For our convenience...

While shipyards are equipped to provide shore power to most commercial vessels while in dry dock, the amount of power needed (and the voltage) for a cruise ship is just too much for yards to provide.  As with nearly all diesel powered ships, the engines on a cruise ship have a three level cooling system.  There is a fresh water cooling system that is just for each separate engine (this is the "high temp" system), and this system is cooled by another fresh water system (this is the "low temp" system), which also cools things like air compressors, AC chillers, etc, and then this system is finally cooled by sea water.  In drydock, there is a connection to the sea water cooling system, where the shipyard connects a hose and provides sea water (from their pumps that fill and empty the dock), which after it cools the engine, the overboard of the sea water system also has a connection and a hose is connected here and led to the dock's drains, which the dock's pumps keep emptying.

Looks like Lazlo beat me to the punch to say thanks, Lazlo, thanks for asking the question, I wouldn't have even thought to ask. Great question and answer.

I chatted NCL on Tuesday.  Confirmed changes: 7 Sea Day, 8 A Cortuna, 9 Vigo. Both port times now 7 to 18. No additional OBC for these changes.  No email notice, and no edoc changes.

Currently the Getaway is in the English Channel. Planned Southampton arrival 2 am Thursday.
