Taxi in Seattle

Recommended Posts

At Pier 91 Seattle - Fridays have the most passengers disembarking - close to 8K  (2 ships)

Saturday & Sundays have 5.5K - 6K passengers (2 ships)

Mondays almost 5K, Tuesdays & Thursdays have close to 2.6K passengers disembarking.(1 ship each day)

Earlier in the disembarking process is usually quicker to grab a taxi.  Longer lines can be between 8 -9 AM.  The taxi line is on the right side of the drive area once you exit the terminal.  There is a dedicated taxi line, and a taxi 'wrangler' to help keep order (passengers and taxi drivers LOL)

Thanks… I found out first hand it was pretty easy. Got off between 9 and 9:30.

Took a very expensive ride to Bellevue Botanical Garden. It was beautiful, so worth it.

just a FYI as I live in Seattle and there was a news report about lots of 'illegal' ubers and car services offering rides from cruise docks.  Ubers and towncars ALL need to be prearranged and ubers normally come in to pick you up.  Lots of illegal cars and 'ubers' ask you if you want a ride or say they are a taxi but then they dramatically raise the fare once you get to Seatac and hold your luggage hostage till you pay up.  Too hard to enforce laws but do be careful.  Best to prearrange a transfer and if you call for an uber make sure its the car you ordered.  Too many unmarked cars saying they are a taxi or an uber so be careful.

This statement re taxis and Ubers is not factual.  The problems are with the XL Black SUVs that show up unordered at Pier 91 soliciting riders.

I work at Pier 91.  All taxis are directed to a staging lot nearby the Terminal 91 Building before they are allowed to approach Pier 91.  They are held there by the transportation staff until there is enough space for them in the taxi lane - then they are allowed to proceed to the pier.  All taxis use the same entrance lane, and all line up in the same passenger pick-up lane.  The taxis have a 'taxi wrangler' who keeps order among passengers and drivers.  There are no 'fake' taxis that sneak into the line - it is all regulated.  Yellow Cabs have a posted price chart, and as a consumer, you have some recourse if you have any complaints or disputes.

As for Ubers - all Ubers/Lyft drivers use a dedicated pick up /drop off staging lot which is located a short distance from the Terminal Building.  When your Uber/Lyft driver texts you to say they have arrived, they actually will give you a numbered parking slot that they are waiting in (#1- #34).  Passengers should also have received additional info re the driver's name and type of car waiting, in addition to the parking slot number.  With all these safeguards in use, you should easily and confidentially get into your actual ordered Uber/Lyft.

What passengers do need to be aware of are the drivers in the large black SUV's that are soliciting passengers standing in the driveway area of Pier 91.  These drivers will call out to passengers who are waiting for their already ordered Town Car or Livery Driver, or are walking to the Uber/Lyft pick-up lot.  Some passengers will accept a low $ offer of a ride to the airport just because the offer is made by a well dressed individual driving a newer big SUV that can leave for the airport immediately.  Accept at your own risk.  It would better to wait for the Town Car or XL Black SUV that you ordered, rather than that your chances with a non-authorized  SUV driver.

Very informative and helpful post.   Thank you.

How to get from Seattle airport to cruise port?

Personally I would just Uber. There is a designated pickup area you follow signs to from the terminal and they update you as to what parking spot they pull into. Super easy.

What should I expect to pay for an Uber or taxi to the airport in Seattle?

Somewhere between $50-60 for an UberX. Don't reserve in advance-- it usually always costs more. Just hit the button in the app when you get there.

We used a Yellow Cab to get to the port yesterday.  Our driver told us that when we get off the ship to go to the airport, not to pay more than $55.  It was a set price.

seattleexpress.com

offers a shuttle to the dock, but otherwise Uber or taxi which should be about $60 or so, assuming pier 91, slightly less to 66

@Ferry_Watcher you are great to share your first-hand knowledge of the pier area. We are considering using a private car service to pick us up at Pier 91 and take us to the airport. Would they be in the same staging area as Ubers?

Car service drivers are allowed to drop off and pick up at the terminal.  Uber and Lyft have a dedicated area about a 7-10 walk from the terminal.  Taxis also can pick up and drop off at the terminal.

Does HAL operate a shuttle bus from SeaTac to the terminal or the terminal to the airport?

Yes.  HAL and Princess passengers share the Motorcoach transfers to and from the airport and the pier.
