Boston is mostly known for Seafood.  Lots of good pubs, too.  It's a big city, anything you want, you can find.

Boston Common is big.  Let us know which hotel and how far you are comfortable walking and we can make suggestions

Mainly "known" for seafood. Neptune Oyster in the North End would be my pick for best overall in that category. Excellent lobster rolls and chowder.

I've started spending more time in Boston recently for work trips and frankly have to say that the food scene is fine but nothing nearly as exciting as other Northeast cities. A LOT of chain restaurants and corporate steakhouses.

Around Boston Common two steakhouses I really like are Mooo in Beacon Hill and Grill 23. Both of them have nice bars you can sit at that have slightly more casual menus than the main dining room.

If you're looking for a nice neighborhood pub that isn't really a pub look at 75 Chestnut in Beacon Hill-- great elevated comfort food. Parish Cafe near the Public Garden is excellent for sandwiches. Nearby the Street Bar at the Newbury Hotel has great bar food-- one of the better hotel bar turkey clubs I've had and has become a go to.

Thanks, i am solo so bar seating would be good. I am staying at hi boston unless i change my mind and stay at onyx boston, the next cheapest hotel i can find. So given cheap accommodation (only 100.00) i feel i can have a nice meal, keeping in mind i’m canadian and exchange rate brutal! Grill 23 doesn’t look that far so i’ll check that out. I’ll check out seafood restaurant as i’m from vancouver and interested what diifferent types of fish you have here.

Yes that oyster house definitely has interesting fish.Someone else mentions james hook and co for lobster roll.

James Hook is good but it's not a real restaurant-- mainly a seafood market that has some outside seating. It's very good and very fresh but just keep in mind that it's very casual and adverse weather conditions can limit your enjoyment being the seating is outside.

Thanks, it looks like i can get to neptune oyster by going on the orange line from chinatown to haymarket. They had some interesting fish entrees that aren’t too expensive.

It's a 25 minute walk from the Hostel to Neptune.  Probably not more than 25 minutes from there to anywhere.  And you can walk on the Freedom Trail for most of the course, or thru the Public Garden and Boston Common if you prefer, for only a few minutes longer trip

We ate at Legal Seafoods, despite advice and we are glad we did. Had a very memorable delicious meal. The crabcakes, mussels and scallops were outstanding. The ambiance , view and service was very inviting. Oh yeah, do not miss the lobster bisque.

Thanks. I am debating going to legal seafoods or james hook for lunch. Legal seafoods has a special with a cup of clam chowder and a petite lobster roll.

The location was very convenient to the Seaport Hotel and we loved the menu choices. All of the selections were fresh and well prepared.

We haven't chatted about the boston cream pie. I gather the original is found at the omni parker house but someone told me its at flour bakery too. I'm going there as near my hotel. I think its non traditional as doesn't have nuts. Boston cream pie is not what you think!

The Omni Parker House is worth a gander-- pretty wood paneled lobby right off the Freedom Trail-- but also a little worn around the edges. I wouldn't make it a dining destination. Parker's Restaurant-- where it originates from-- never reopened for dinner service. The bar there off the lobby that serves it is fairly unremarkable.

They have a version of the cream pie at both Mike's Pastry and Modern Pastry in the North End-- they're at least on par with the Parker House version but frankly the cannoli at either of these places is much better than the cream pie. But that might just be my own tastes.

Neptune Oyster beats the two of these put together and then some...

Thanks! I'd like to try cannoli too. Not sure how much i can cram in before my cruise though. I'd like to see the USS Constitution like you suggested. I think i'll just try the flour bakery. A local suggested it.

I hear there is a line though! I don't have time for that.

What day of the week are you going to be there? If you get there just before 11am when they open, if you are a party of 1-2, you will usually just walk right into and be sat at the bar. I've never had a major issue if you time it right.

That's true i will be there on a monday so i imagine not too busy. I couldn't get there unitl around 11:40 though. I do see the lobster roll on the menu so they must just not sell it online. Or i'm interested in getting the peeky toe crab here or portland.

I know there are a lot of options in Boston but we prefer just going to Faneuil Hall. So many vendors then we can try whatever we like...Yummy !!!

I was wondering if you have been to the Boston Sail Loft?  If so what is it like?  It seems reasonably priced for a very expensive city.
