mbarker Posted June 30 #1 Share Posted June 30 Our UA LAX flight home has just been cancelled and there are no replacement flights that leave late enough to work. When we originally booked, Southwest didn't have anything from LGB that would work so we were forced to opt for UA out of LAX, but things changed and now there is an 11:00 am flight -- could we make that on Thanksgiving morning? Last port before LA will be San Diego and we would take the luggage off ourselves. Thank you.

mbarker Posted June 30 Author #3 Share Posted June 30 Didn't say we wanted to get off in San Diego. Mentioned it because it might make a difference with CBP.

Oh... as in your clearance will be done in SD and disembarkation in LA should be pretty swift?

ATSEAMYLIFE Posted July 1 #6 Share Posted July 1 We have flown twice on Thanksgiving Day and the airports are ghost towns. Only issue might be short holiday staffing at the port.
Rare J13C85 Posted July 1 #7 Share Posted July 1 US TG in 2022, we flew out of El Paso to Fort Lauderdale. Airport was a zoo. Arrived airport 2 hrs 15 minutes before our flight and barely made the flight (we were 2 of the last 3 to board). Point is do not assume airport will be a ghost town. Best way to gage how crowded airport will be is to know how many flights are scheduled within the window you are flying.

Good point all depends on the airports. We did Colorado Springs and Cincinnati, both were empty on Thanksgiving Day during mid-day.

Much like OP, there isn't much available for same day flights and trying not to stay over an extra night. This would be an October flight. We have both TSA precheck and Clear which usually helps us get through TSA quicker (but not always - I'm talking about you Miami lol). Thanks! NW Pacific Posted July 9 #10 Share Posted July 9 If the stars align, if you disembark in Long Beach and fly out of Long Beach, get off the /ship with carry on only, you have a good chance of making the flight.. FYI if you disembark the Ship earlier than scheduled (San Diego) you may be charged a "penalty fee" not sure what they call it but would check before considering that. Long Bech Airport is so nice and small!!!

jcc1025 Posted July 10 #13 Share Posted July 10 We live in Long Beach, about 2 minutes from the airport. We have sailed on Royal several times and park at the airport. We carry our luggage off and in most cases we are back home before 9am. Getting a ride should not be an issue and you could make that flight. Also don't have to put up with the hassle that can be LAX although we have also traveled on Thanksgiving days before and its never crowded. If the ship arrives in San Pedro at 9AM, you probably won't make an 11AM flight at LGB. I say probably because if you clear CBP in San Diego, then, yes I think you have a chance. If it arrives in Long Beach or San Pedro at 7AM, I'd think you make an 11AM flight easily. Same questions; which ship, which port, what time is ship's scheduled arrival? The difference between you and the OP is that they should clear CBP in San Diego the day before they get to LA. Both ports use facial recognition, so it goes pretty quick, but a lot depends on the ship arrival time.
