Marina rear elevator

We just left the Marina on Sept 23rd.  One of the two rear elevators in NOT IN SERVICE, forecast months before replacement.  Very long waits to access specialty restaurants and Terrance Cafe.  Many people found it necessary to ride down to get a space on elevator so that they could later ride up.

We will be on Marina in November so the elevator issue will probably not be resolved. Glad we are booked toward the front elevators so it will not be an issue for us but I can see where it will bothers those Aft. Now I just have to remember to never walk to the Aft elevators to go for meals. I guess we will just get in more “Steps”, what a great weight management program 👍🤪🛳️🤙 Weight Watchers beware.

I can definitely agree with you, Broken down for 3 months is BAD but we have no idea what is wrong and why they can not get the parts or the proper staff from the elevator company aboard to make the necessary repairs. It is definitely a Bummer and requires all the guests to plan ahead or leave for the restaurants a little earlier since there is only one operating Aft elevator. I will go with inconvenient for sure but it won’t take long on every cruise segment for the guests to know of the problem and become a bit more flexible in dealing with it. Thanks to the past cruisers for making this issue known.

Though sometimes one wonders if certain parts of a ship are just problematic. I'd swear that Sirena's starboard sliding door that opens out to the open eating area in the TC wasn't working properly in 11/2022 and now again 9/2024 on our recent cruise.

A restaurant where we eat twice each week is in a building with offices and apartments. The passenger elevator was recently not working for over two months...crazy!

We were told, in July, that they needed a new motor and a crane to install it.  They also needed personnel from the elevator company.  But seems to me that after 3 months or more, they could have accomplished the repair by now.

We are sailing on the Marina in a few days. When I heard of this issue I asked my TA to speak with Oceania about the repair as I can’t do stairs. The reply was that the motor, needed for the repair, weighs 900kg and, as you say, they need a crane to install it, which I’m assuming is not available in every port. They HOPE to have it repaired by the end of October but personally I wouldn’t hold my breath!

We were on Marina in early July and the elevator was not working then.  I find it hard to believe that they have been unable to have its fixed or replaced by now.

Why is it hard to believe?

 

How long will it take to get the crane and other equipment into place? How long will the repair take? Is the motor readily available, or is Oceania still awaiting the parts? How much coordination will it take to get the motor and necessary repair people all at the same place at the same time? How many cruise days will people miss as they sit in port awaiting all the repairs? Talk about mad customers that feel inconvenienced!!

 

All of this because a few passengers don’t want to do a little pre Planning and arrive early to the elevator and to wait, or just use the forward elevators. Oh woe is me.

We were on the same cruise and yes it was a pain, but what made it worse was the passengers, dithering about where they were going, chatting in the door riding down  when they wanted to go up  so they would get a place, leaving people really wanting to go down waiting even longer. 

 

There was an announcement day one saying that the part was specialised, had to be a one off order, weighed 900kg, needed a crane to load it, and only certain ports had the facilities that required so they had to coordinate manufacturers, fitters, crane and port schedule.

It’s only really an issue if you have a problem with stairs as I do.  Most don’t. However, I have ‘planned’. I spoke to my TA and  I heard from Oceania that the lift wouldn’t be fixed for our cruise so I will take a rollator with a seat!

 

I have to admit we have never had problems getting the lifts on either the large or small ships as they are usually empty. Apart of course on disembarkation day. Most people seem to like to take the stairs for exercise.
 

Let’s be honest here nothing is too far away on any of the ships so one lift out of six out of action shouldn’t really cause a problem or ‘ruin’ anybody’s cruise!

I'm with you... I have a condition called Inclusion Body Myositis and stairs is a no for me also...
