smoking in cabins

There is talk on the HAL board about smoking in cabins. One poster states that she was told last week that Princess is the only line to allow smoking in cabins. I need to hear from very recent cruisers what the policy was on the line you cruised:cool:

Holland America allows smoking in all their cabins, well they did as of this past February when I sailed on the Volendam, but someone on the HAL boards reported they are no longer allowing this. The OP is trying to find out the rules of other lines.

Royal Caribbean does allow smoking in the cabins. It is forbidden in the dining rooms and the theaters and several of the lounges. It is allowed in the casino and one side of the outside decks (starboard side I believe but I may be wrong).

Last I heard from friends who cruise frequently on RCI, smoking is allowed in cabins.

Norwegian allows smoking almost everywhere.

I recently cruised on the Carnival Valor and was unpleasantly surprised to find that smoking is allowed in cabins. For a non-smoker like me it was not good to have my cabin be recently smoked in. :( However, I contacted the Purser's desk who contacted the housekeeper who arranged to have my carpet shampooed and the room thoroughly cleaned again. I am normally not the type of complain but that was an issue that I could not deal with for a week.

Smoking was supposedly allowed on one side of the outside decks but not the other, however, people smoked wherever they wanted.

Just ask the cabin attendant for an ashtray as they don't automatically put them in the cabins anymore.

OK you will find this hard to believe but I am a smoker and would never even consider smoking in my cabin, only on the balcony or in designated areas. I am surprised to read that this is actually allowed. Give your lungs a break and take a walk to a smoking area don't smoke in your cabin:cool: I guess I am just a considerate smoker!!

Those of us who don't smoke really appreciate your thoughtfulness by smoking in open areas. We just wish more people were that considerate of others. Smoking in cabins should be a no-no-- not only for health reasons but for safety reasons. Children, the elderly, and those of us who allergic to second-hand smoke should not have to be exposed in any enclosed area. On cruises there is usually good entertainment in many of the bar areas but the smoke cloud is so heavy that most of us can't enjoy the program due to breathing or allergy problems. Thanks again to all you considerate smokers.

My husband is also a smoker and will not be smoking in our cabin, he never smokes in the house or in the car around me or the grandkids so I can't imagine him starting now. I did make sure we are booked into a cabin with a balcony so he can just step outside smoke. I just was surprised that cruiselines allowed smoking, learn something new everyday.

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, smoking is prohibited onboard most areas of our ships. However, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have special designated smoking areas in many of our lounges and on all open-air decks. On Alaska Cruisetours, smoking is not permitted on motorcoaches or inside traincars. On Canadian Rockies Cruisetours, smoking is not permitted on motorcoaches or anywhere on the traincars.

Smoking has always been allowed on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity in the cabins as well as on their verandas. Whoever posted that RCI does not allow smoking in cabins is absolutely wrong. This has been discussed ad nauseum on these boards.

 

Below is a link to a cruise critic article on cruise lines and their policies on smoking. Clearly states there are no non-smoking cabins on RCI.

As I said in an above post - YES, Carnival allows smoking in all passenger cabins.

 

Many times on these boards non-smokers have said they never detected any smoke residue odors in their cabins. I don't know what housekeeping uses, but it obviously works. VERY few have reported that they had to ask for their cabin to be re-cleaned because of smoke odors.

 

Smoking areas have decreased on Carnival ships in the past few years. The inside promenades were smoking areas, but now all are non-smoking.

 

All dining venues, as well as the main showlounge are non-smoking areas, as well as one side of the Lido pool area. I have seen the ship's personnel remind folks many times of the smoking/non-smoking sides. Some of the smaller lounges are also non-smoking. Casino is always a smoking area, but passing by a casino you're bound to smell the smoke. Just walk by quickly.:)

This is common knowledge, there isn't even a dispute on the matter.

I never said anything about Oceania, they have very strict policies, I was only referring to Royal Caribbean which clearly allows smoking in their rooms and on their veranda's.

Royal Caribbean does allows smoking in their rooms and on there veranda's. I have been on 5 RCCL cruises as a smoker, and there has always been a couple ass trays in the cabin. I smoke a pipe not those nasty cigs.;)
