Today I bid on Priceline (hoping to get the Marriott Stellaris) for a 3-night stay from Sept 9-12th, 2010, but instead I won the El San Juan Hotel and Casino, Waldorf Astoria Collection, for $80 after bidding about three times.

I'm really kind of bummed because I have stayed at the Marriott Stellaris before and really liked it. But I guess when you roll the Priceline bidding dice, you never know what may happen.

It doesn't make me feel any better that the Waldorf Astoria has gotten some pretty bad reviews on tripadvisor.com. I guess my consolation is knowing that I'm not paying top dollar for this hotel. Maybe the people who really disliked the hotel felt that they had paid too much for what they got. Oh, well.

P.S. Has anyone stayed here before, and if so, how was it?

I would be thrilled if I won the El San Juan for $80. The beach at Isla Verde is much nicer than Condado. Also, we really enjoyed the open air barbeque restaurant on the top deck. It has a great sunset. The lobby of the El San Juan is beautiful and the pool are very nice.

Any tips for bidding on El Convento 2/11 would be appreciated. I really want to stay there.

I have seen it on some of the sites like Expedia but for a minimum 2 night stay and NEVER have I seen it come up on the "hidden" deals. I would love to hear if anyone else has. I love that hotel too

I had already reserved the Embassy Suites (which I'll cancel now) at $239 tax/fees inclusive. Got caught up in the Priceline hype. Bid resort San Juan at 102 (denied). Told to up by $25, which I did immediately (read other posts and do smaller increments at a time.)

I was successfull and got a room at the Marriott Stellaris for a total of $149.73 on 12/18/10. Just saying oops because my Embassy Suites hotel included a Manager's Reception ($40 worth of free drinks) and breakfast for all four of us (at least $40 worth of free food).

So, I don't think I thought this through until it is too late. I just hope I don't have a problem, A, getting two double beds for a family of four.

Or, B, not being able to eat breakfast under $40. Otherwise, I didn't get much of a deal, unless the Marriott is waaaay better than the Embassy. Any thoughts?

I just won the Sheraton Old San Juan on Priceline for $80. This is for our post cruise stay on 2/6/11. Wow! I'm so happy about this because the hotel is just across the steet from the cruise dock. This hotel sells at $249 a night on regular sites!

I started by choosing a 3.5 star rating for sector 8 (San Juan) and bid $68. I was accorded a "free" bid to increase by $20 to obtain my room. I rejected the proposal and added another sector which does not have any 3.5 star ratings or higher. Continued doing this until my bid was $80 and I won :D

We got the Radisson Ambassador for a $89 bid on Priceline for one night pre cruise (Dec 2010) and the Sheraton Old San Juan for a $75 bid (also Priceline) for one night post cruise. Think I could have done better on the Radisson, but feel pretty good about the Sheraton OSJ!!:)

We are going on Southern Caribbean cruise leaving from San Juan. I was there one other time for a cruise and only had time to do a quick tour of downtown area and the fort. I need to do some research on the different areas, but what is your opinion of which area of San Juan to stay in and why and what hotel do you like? We won't have a car so need someplace that is convenient to walk to for meals, sightseeing, etc. and not too far for taxi to get us to the ship. Thanks so much for getting me started on my research!

Has anyone had success on Priceline for this date? Any suggestions? What was the final price - did they try to add any extraordinary taxes or fees? We were thinking of limiting our bidding to four-star hotels in San Juan area to avoid getting a far-off hotel - we have two young kids in tow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Decided to add an extra night to the Marriott Stellaris for end of January 2011. Bid of $140 got accepted after 3 re-bids. Still saved $320. on airfare by flying out on the Monday morning. Was also able to redeem points on Visa card for hotel cost, so all in all not a bad deal. :)

Has anyone bid on P/L for this date? I need a post cruise hotel and would like to see if anyone else has had any success. TIA.

We cruise on Feb. 12, 2011. Are we better off trying Priceline now or waiting until closer till Feb.?

We would love to stay at the Marriott Stellaris - are there any hints to getting in there?

Personally, I feel the earlier the better. I've gotten great prices as far as 9 months out. My reason for preferring to bid early is that it gives you more time for bidding.

As for tips for the Marriott, the only thing you can do is bid resort - but that doesn't guarantee you the Marriott...it just means you're guaranteed one of the resort level hotels if your bid is accepted. I think all of the resort level hotels are great.

We have the Marriott for both precruise and postcruise stay in Feb. We bid in early July, resorts for San Juan.
