We bid $110 using criteria of "San Juan" and "resort" and got the Intercontinental for 10/10/2010. Waited several days, then used same criteria and bid $96 for 10/22/10---got a message back asking us to increase bid to $116. We did so and got the Marriott Stellaris Resort.

I've been trying to get a hotel for Jan 13 for one night pre-cruise. Apparently there's a big festival during this time which puts the prices sky high. I had bid on priceline for Resort or 4* up to $140, 3 1/2 * up to $122.. All were rejected. Since we will not be arriving until later in the day, decided to try a 3*. First bid was $75.. after two rebids, $81 was accepted, with taxes/fees comes to $97.xx. Checked several online sites to compare prices, and all were at $209 + bringing total to nearly $240. Quite pleased with what we got..

This was our first bid for Resort for Sunday, Feb 13 and won at $110 plus taxes.

We had been bidding 3.5 stars hoping for The Sheraton Old San Juan. Bid was up to $98 with no win. Changed to the Resort bid.

Our post cruise Resort for Feb 25th was won at $155. This was for a Friday night. On Saturday there are a couple of cruise ships leaving which I think causes the higher prices.

That has been our experience. Sunday is easier to win than a Friday. We have a precruise Sunday resort for $110 and the Friday resort is $155.

I review several post and better bidding. Looked like most successful bids were at $110. I saw that someone else had gotten Marriott Stellaris for $106 for another date. Decided to start my bid at $106 to see if I could get it on first try. Got Marriott San Juan Resort and Stellaris Casino for one night, 12/02/10 on my first bid.

The same room for this date was going for $219 on most hotel booking sites.

We won the Marriott Stellaris at a bid of $110 for a Thursday, Friday, and the following Saturday in January, the same time as the San Sebastian festival. Not sure if timing has anything to do with it, but we bid this past May.

That has been our experience. Sunday is easier to win than a Friday. We have a precruise Sunday resort for $110 and the Friday resort is $155.

Tried posting a separate thread on this but I'm not getting any feedback. We're at the Marriott Stellaris in Feb, 2 nights at $111/ through Priceline. Anyone ever put a third person in the room. Called hotel once and they said $25/extra per night. Called again and they said no problem, no charge. Can't get any kind of email confirmation from them and we hate surprises. Anyone have experience specifically at this hotel with this? Thanks...

Highflyingrealtor,

I had the same issue with the Marriott Stellaris in February of this year. I bid and won two rooms on Priceline for my family of 4 and another family of 4. Contacted them by email, phone and fax and never got the answer I was looking for - would they guarantee me two beds in each room so we could sleep 4 people to each room. Finally gave up and just went on vacation with my fingers crossed. When I arrived the staff was great. Two double rooms - no problem. No extra charge for extra people in the room. We even got oceanview rooms. The Marriott Stellaris is the best place to stay in San Juan. So, to make a long story short. Don't worry about it. Just go and have a great time!

Cheers, Murray

Spoken like a true "crazy canadienne"! (I come from roots in the prairies of Val Marie) Thanks for your comments and experience. We've got two rooms & 5 people so just covering the bases. One of us is a lawyer and you know how they can get!

Man! Priceline hates me. I've gone as high as $140 so far to get a resort or 4-star in San Juan for two nights (21-23 Jan) and I'm continually rejected.

This isn't turning out to be as fun as I thought it would be! :)

I know - we got $130 for Jan 16 -18 at the Marriot, but I can't find anything for Jan 7-9. Hate to pay full price. =)

I went up to $155 for resort for Feb 25th, post cruise.

At $150, there was an offer to increase bid by $20.

Thanks for the update, twarp. Based on that, I was finally successful getting a room for two nights:

$150/night netted me 2 nights (Fri & Sat) at the Marriott San Juan Resort for mid-January, 2011.

Thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread. I hadn't tried Priceline before and you all gave me the nerve to give it a shot.

For San Juan resorts is it zone 8?

Need one night, mid-week, for March 17th......too early to start bidding??

Would March be considered shoulder season? What should I start at?

Thanks,

Marty
