Have You Received Your Guarantee Cabin Assignment?

I have heard that HA sometimes switches us at the last minute from a cabin they assigned to us on a GTY. I cant imagine them changing us once they give us a cabin number. Anyone ever heard of this or experience it themselves? We are new to HA.

cruisefrk, I've done a guarantee three times. Each time, once a cabin has been assigned, it has stayed the same. These were all on a "share" basis, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

The first time the assignment was made nine days before, the second time was two weeks out. I don't recall the timing on the third try.

A couple GTY ?? for the experts. I just looked at the HAL site for available cabins for our cruise - only 2 inside cabins and less than 10 OV cabins were listed as available (no suites of course). Now I'm pretty sure I'm not the only inside gty waiting to be assigned a room, so does that mean an OV cabin could be in our future. How would they determine which inside gty to upgrade to OV? Price paid? Date booked? Cat? Random? Pixie Dust? Is there a possibility they'll overbook the cruise and we'll be left on the dock waiving? How do they decide who to leave if they overbook?

Now a really obsurd ? If I get an OV upgrade, would they let me trade with someone for a midship inside to help our neverending seasickness battle?

BTW: On our last cruise, we were told the reason our pillow chocolate was missing, was because the pillow was getting too plump...

We finally received our cabin number...we were upgraded from SY to SS. We were hoping for a Deluxe Suite, but we're still very happy with the Superior Suite. Only 1 week to go!

Hi:

We just received our Guarantee cabin assignment. We also were upgraded from an SY to SS.

Regards,

That has been my experience too (except not a single share).

Once I was assigned , I stayed there.

I seem to read on these threads quite often of this happening. We keep hoping we will get a new cabin assignment but it isn't really a big deal. We knew going in, it was a gamble and I am very satisfied with the location of our cabin. We have less than a month to go, have gotten an assignment and as of right now, not a single catagory is sold out. Time will tell. I check every morning. Funny thing is, if I was one of my clients, I would be telling them, nicely, to just forget it and be happy.

I have not cruised that much (only 4 since Mar. 05 with number 5 coming up in Dec.), but the one time I booked a GTY, it was a SZ cat on the Oosterdam. I received my cabin number within a couple of weeks. It was 6113, an SY and I was very happy with the location. When we got to check-in at the pier, I gave the counter person our docs. He left and was gone for quite a while. I was getting worried that somehow our reservations had been cancelled and we wouldn't be allowed to board. When he finally returned, we found out that we had been upgraded to SA cat! I had checked the immigration form often before we left and up to a day or so before we sailed we had SY. You can be upgraded more than once, maybe it's just not that common.

I'm dying to get my cabin assignment as well. I'm cruising on the Westerdam in 16 days and have been checking every day...still no assignment. I booked a VH guarantee. Someone on the roll call for this cruise and also booked a VH guarantee was upgraded to a VA cabin weeks ago. That gave me hope I would find out soon and maybe get an upgrade but so far no such luck.

How exciting that must have been! We have never booked a GTY before but realized when we did book the SY that we didn't have a lot of chance of being upgraded as there aren't too many categories above us. We are very happy with the location and we are one deck higher than the original balcony we had booked before switching to the SY GTY. Thanks for sharing your story!

I just received my cabin assignment this afternoon for the Nov 19th Westerdam sailing. I'm traveling with my father we booked 2 VH guarantee cabins and were both upgraded to VA cabins next door to each other on the Navigation deck. I couldn't be happier!

I think it is mainly pixie dust. However, I do think they may look at how much was paid and maybe upgrade the folks who actually paid a little more for a particular category. the only two upgrades I have ever gotten were when I booked a little early instead of at the last minute bargain prices.

Love the plump pillow. Reminded me of the night DH stayed in the casino late, and came back to the room, did not turn the light on because I was sleeping and woke up in the morning with a chocolate coved ear. Hee Hee. So when the CD reminds you to remove the chocolate from your pillow before retiring, pay attention.:o

So when DH started licking your ear, you probably just thought he was getting frisky?!;)

We didn't get the last minute bargain rate, but considering brochure rate and we could get upgrade - I guess we could have done alot worse. Remains to be seen how well. Still waiting...

Burrma, we're launching a service-oriented story today on Cabin Guarantees and I'd love to know an example of what you booked -- and what you got. The bigger the upgrade the better! Can you send me a note at editor@cruisecritic.com? Many thanks!

Best,

Carolyn

I booked and paid for Three VH Cabins on a Guarantee Basis.

Right before we left to Bermuda on another cruise ship the end of last month (October, 2006) we recieved the Documents for the HAL Cruise 11/25/2006 ((BLACK SATURDAY)) on the ms Noordam IV. When we arrived back in New Jersey and home we saw that we had been UpGraded to THREE VA Cabins on the Rotterm Deck (The most quiet Deck) aboard the ms Noordam IV.

The three cabin have two next to one another and the other is way across the on the other side of the ship.

Oh well together would have been better connecting all the veranndahs is nicer.
