CRUISE LINE Single Supplement Bargains -- Post Here

Hi gang. I recently completed my first cruise, Celebrity Millennium, and look forward to booking my next. (Solo, of course!) Meanwhile, I was hoping someone could clue me in on cabin classifications. I've seen postings that refer to 1A, 2A, 3C, etc... are these universal for all ships or do the major lines have their own classifications?

I really enjoyed Celebrity and would sail with them again in a heartbeat...maybe when the big Solstice is launched?

Hi, welcome to the world of Solo cruising:)

I have been sailing with Celebrity since 2003 and love them

as well.

As for cabin categories, I think it depends on the cruiseline

but I could be wrong.

I know on Celebrity there are certain suites...SS...(would

be a Sky Suite) and CC would be Conceirge Class.

Not sure anymore about the 1A, etc. I always go with

the "regular" cabins...LOL insides or maybe a window.

Glad you enjoyed Millennium. I sailed her in Dec 2006 and

loved it too.:D

You could post this question over on the X board as well:)

Thanks, Lois, I was drowning in alphabet soup going over the entire thread. I've been making calls to Celebrity and RCCL to see if they have any specials for solos, and you'd think I just asked them to be included in their will...I wouldn't say hostile or anything like that...more like, disbelief. ("Did you really just ask for half off?") Anyway, I'll check back here often to see what you guys come up with. And if I find something I'll be happy to report back as well.

I believe the 1A's spoken in this thread refer to the Carnival category. This tends to be the most reasonably priced for solo's on Carnival. There is a limited number so the 1A's are not always available, so you would want to book early or when you see it.

I cruise solo on HAL and the supplement runs 120-150%. I just booked a Celebrity cruise and of course it is 200%. Like Lois I typically book the best price and that is always an inside. For my long upcoming cruise I was able to upgrade my single inside to a single outside for only $495 so I jumped on it, especially for a long cruise, it will be a real treat for me. This particular HAL ship offers one single room and 2 single outside rooms. These are priced out better than the double occupany rooms, but this is the only ship of theirs that has these category rooms, and only 3 total, at that.

Hi, no special prices for solos on X or Royal:rolleyes:

They have a 200% single supplement. It is the price

I pay because I really do love the product.

I have mentioned it to the Future Cruise Consultant every time

I sail. I also put it on my comment card at the end of every

cruise.

Many sailings on Royal Caribbean are offered to singles at less than 100% supplement. Many have been posted here in the past. The most recent were selected sailings on the Monarch of the Seas in May. :)

Ok..I stand corrected. 100% percent single supplement?

Example to you if I may?

Mariner of the Seas out of PC....if that was 600.00 per person

double occupancy, you are saying as a solo it would be the same

price? 150% would be 300.00 extra.....everytime I have ever

priced something on the Royal Website it comes up 200%.

Same as Celebrity. (1 person is basically paying for 2)

Monarch sails out of LA right?

To pay 100% is basically paying 100 bucks extra. Never heard

of that on any line.

I have 15 cruises with Celebrity...the lowest supplement

I have found was about 150% and that was a few years

ago.

Hi guys. I've been following your posts for awhile and just wanted to add my 2-cents.

FYI, single supplements of less than 100% of regular cruise fare is exceedingly rare but not unheard of. Case in point: last year I took a last minute Alaskan cruise on HAL. They were posting a single supplement of negative 5 percent on a solo balcony on ****. I called the TA and had her check both prices and sure enough, a single was actually cheaper than the per person price for a double. We suspected the ship was nearing its max cap. and just wanted to fill cabins. I just had to go! (It actually turned out to be one of my best Alaskan cruises.)

Lois, for Alaska, 8 nights, solo, I consider that a good deal, especially on Celebrity.

Lois>>I am looking at the same Alaska trip. What airport do you fly into and then out of please?

Hi yellowbird:)

I will be flying into Seattle the day before and taking Amtrak

up to Vancouver. There is a train that leaves 7:30am every morning

and I have heard it really is a wonderful way to see the countryside.

I posted on the Roll Call call but there were only about

8 total postings...sort of a slow one:rolleyes: oh well, Mercury

is my favorite ship:D

When I did my Alaskan cruise in 2002 on the Alaskan State Ferry, I took Amtrak from Bellingham to Seattle. The pricing was great and it was a wonderful short trip! There were times when we were railing along the ocean.

I noticed that the rates for Alaskan cruises are great at the first part of the season and the end of the season. I'm thinking about an Alaskan cruise again in 2009.

Happy sailing!!

Just saw this one on one of the popular online websites...

Hal's Ryndam - Vancouver to SD (11 days)

$1,424 (includes port charges) for an inside

I thought this was a pretty good deal. I'm hoping I can go.

Thank you for your post. However, please note the following information from our Community Manager LauraS on the first page of this thread.

We're fine with you folks using this thread to share info you may find on solo cruising bargains -- as long as those bargains are offered by the CRUISE LINES and not by a travel agency or GROUP CRUISE.

Thanks,

Laura

This includes any online websites or brick & mortar travel agencies.

Here's the link to Royal Caribbean's Memorial Day 2008 Blowout sale where select European sailings are being offered at a 125% single supplement.

While the dates are fairly close in, they are offering us singles a good rate if you can sail on shorter notice.

For the last 7 years I have found that Regent (formerly Radisson) has the most fair single supplement policy. Except for suites with butlers, all outside standard size cabins (they don't have inside cabins and the smallest outside cabin is 300 sq. ft) generally carry a 30% to 40% single supplement. This can go as high as 50% for Baltic cruises in July and August and Carribean cruises over Christmas and New Years. But then again I have gotten supplements as low as just 20% when traveling after Thanksgiving and before Christmas or in the months of January and late April, each before the height of season. A friend of mine took a re-positioning cruise by herself and paid no supplement whatsoever.

I should also mention (and maybe someone has before because this is a very old thread) that the QE2 has single cabins and those cabins have no single supplement. But you have to act fast, QE2 goes out of service in November 2008. But Cunard is waiving single supplements on a lot of trans-Atlantic crossings on the QM2 and where they are not, a balcony cabin only carries a 50% supplement.

IS IT TRUE THAT CELEBRITY ALWAYS CHARGES DOUBLE when traveling alone?

Hi,:) yes, Celebrity usually charges double. Now, to say 100%

of the time...nope, I won't say that but more often than not

it is double.

As for the Regent lower supplements, as on most of the

"Luxury Lines" their supplements are lower but..(A big but)

when the price is more than some can afford anyway, the

lower supplement does not help..

I have looked at some of the luxury lines on ocassion but

even with their lower supplements the cruise price is just

way out of my budget:eek:
