OhioJeff Posted March 22, 2007 #27 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I wonder if all of this is the result of the bozo who took the leap off the ship last week? Just my $0.02 You think he was drinking wine, soda or water?
StuartLittle Posted March 22, 2007 Author #28 Share Posted March 22, 2007 We can't bring water? I just called and they said we could.... They lied. It's in the contract. ;) As for spending thousands on the cruise and then smuggling, why should you be forced to pay their outrageous amount just to have some of their bottled water when and where you want? I at least understood their liquor policy, even if I did choose to ignore it. To each his own. I will continue to bring it. :D

StuartLittle Posted March 22, 2007 Author #33 Share Posted March 22, 2007 Right on Stuart.... don't let "the man" get you down. I'll still follow the rules, thank you. :) Not really the point now is it about "the man". Kindly explain to me how you feel the no water/soda policy is justified? I mean, you can't exactly use your soda card in ports can you? Not that I would, but there is the principle of the policy that irks me. Like I said, it doesn't change my actions either way. But that still doesn't make it palatable.

big_duck Posted March 22, 2007 #35 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I will be bringing/smuggling water. What on earth for? Bring an empty water bottle. There is plenty of free water on the ship.
racegrrl Posted March 22, 2007 #36 Share Posted March 22, 2007 This is a bit dissappointing, as we like to drink caffeine free diet coke, and the ship doesn't carry it. Same for the Mt. Dew folks, I used to drink that years ago, and I understand the need for the fix of the REAL THING, not some fake close-to-but-not-quite dew wannabe. The ships better be prepared to bring more variety of soda on board if they aren't going to allow you to bring your own any longer. This likens to a hotel that won't allow you to bring your own drinks & snacks, you can only get items from the mini-bar = $$$$$$$ for Carnival. I guess this is how they can keep the prices low, have to make up the revenue somewhere, just a fact of business I suppose. We always smuggle a few airline sized booze bottles, just for enjoying something in the room. But our bar bill is still plenty heavy, and they get their $$ out of us via photos, casino, etc. This just seems a bit greedy, especially regarding the soda/water. KelliKevin Posted March 22, 2007 #37 Share Posted March 22, 2007 so I have a question...one bottle of wine per person I get, but is the same for a three night cruise and a 7 night cruise??? that's not fair... I think the longer the cruise, the more you should be able to bring.....

ladyjbd3155 Posted March 22, 2007 #39 Share Posted March 22, 2007 Since you are no longer allowed to bring on your own water, can someone tell me if the ship sells bottled water? I am desperately worried about salt intake and drink a ridiculous amount of water a day. Will this be a problem if drinking the "tap" water on board? SunnieD Posted March 22, 2007 #40 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I was very disappointed to hear that you can no longer take soda on board. I am a Diet Dr. Pepper fanatic and I can not get that on board. You can however get Mr.Pibb, full strength. I would rather have my own, only because I want it when I want it and as much as I want. I would not like having to run to a bar for a can at a time when I want to just relax in my room or on my balcony. We brought leftover beer from the night before on the QUeen Mary, and a bottle of vodka. Neither were hidden, just sitting in the suitcase. We came home with a 1/2 bottle of the vodka and an $850 liquor/beer bill for 7 days. Saved us money? NO! Morning Screwdrivers on the balcony in our bathrobes was worth bringing the bottle. :D

Yes they do... but the water on the ship (not from the tap, but from the drink stations on the lido, and in the dining rooms) is WONDERFUL!!!!! And it's free!! It's actually better than many bottled waters I have had (yes, there is a difference, LOL!!!) But they sell 2 different sized bottles as well.. Fun~N~Sun Posted March 22, 2007 #42 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I don't understand the whole idea with the smuggling of beverages alcoholic or non-alcoholic. It's just not worth the hassle. You have to worry about getting caught, worry about it breaking, the added weight, running back to the cabin every time you want a drink. Why worry about bottled water? Water is free on the ship. When you spend the money for a cruise and enjoy that lifestyle what is a few extra dollars on the tab for beverages? It's the same as if going to a resort, sporting event, concert, or your local bar for that matter; you can't take your own liquor or drinks to any of these places why should a cruise ship be any different? When I go to a NFL game or a concert the price of a beer there is WAAAAAAY more than on the ship and I have never seen or heard anyone complain about not being able to take their own beverages there. Even water for that matter. I'm not a saint and don't always play by the rules but I always did think the whole idea of bringing your own liquor, soda, water, etc was more trouble than it was worth. P.S. My S&S tab was over $1200 for 7 days; 3 people almost all of which was alcohol so yea I do like to have a drink or two.

Can't really compare a cruise/resort/hotel to a sporting event or concert... but considering a ship is a floating hotel/resort, we can use that comparison. And there are plenty of places that are still dry, and if you want a drink, you have no choice but to bring your own :p I have brought cranberry juice and CF Diet Coke, now... if they allow you to buy those for a reasonable price as set-ups when you pre-purchase the liquor, that's fine... but they have to have options other than paying per can or getting a lousy soda card, especially for those spending the higher prices to buy THEIR booze!!! My tab usually runs around $700-$1000, so I like my drinks, but I also like them to treat me like an adult, just like any other resort/hotel does... they should also offer caffeine free products (diet) for their passengers that can't tolerate caffeine... I'm on medication and have to be very careful about my caffeine intake, but last I checked, my choice was sprite??
helen77388 Posted March 22, 2007 #44 Share Posted March 22, 2007 From another thread: It does not pertain to non-alcoholic beverages unless there is an excessive quantity. From carnival site: (f). Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only. Excessive quantities, as determined by Carnival, will be confiscated and discarded without compensation. msubobcats Posted March 22, 2007 #47 Share Posted March 22, 2007 and your carry-on is x-ray'd, how do you smuggle and get away with it? I know the 'mouthwash/shampoo/use a different bottle' maneuver for my hooch, but now that non-alcohol stuff is forbidden, how in the world will a 12 pack of pepsi/water possibly make it through? henepup Posted March 22, 2007 #48 Share Posted March 22, 2007 We always take booze, water, and Dr. Pepper. Just get the travel size booze in a plastic bottle from the liquor store. I always pack it in the checked luggage. Our S&S account runs us $1500-$2000 for 2 adults. They are not losing any money with us. We just got off NCL in January, and had no problems with the stuff. CoachDT Posted March 22, 2007 #50 Share Posted March 22, 2007 Get one of the soda cards and dump out about 50 glasses a day. If everyone does it, not only will ship be incredibly sticky, they will run out of coke and then we can openly revolt. :)
