LouisV Posted December 6, 2007 #101 Share Posted December 6, 2007 I just got back from a 7-day on Westerdam that had a small "Dance Camp" group on it. They were nice folks, and really didn't interfere with normal enjoyment of the ship at all. They mostly used the Queen's Lounge and some of the conference rooms, and maybe the nightclub, at times during the day when they wouldn't be used for public events anyway. They did have a few lessons in part of the Crow's Nest during the day, but they only used the dance floor area; the rest of it was open, and they weren't playing music so the lessons were fairly easy to ignore. On the other hand, this was a pretty small group - I think only about 50 students and 5 instructors. I can see that a larger group might be more disruptive. Actually that group sounds like alot of fun...
Scrumpy Posted December 11, 2007 #102 Share Posted December 11, 2007 On June 22-29, Westerdam has the Great Alaskan Maritime Marathon group onboard. DH just showed the ad to me. Addy is http://www.gammcruise.com/index.html . Hope it's okay to post that. Looks pretty good, but I don't know about tendering to and from Sitka with a bunch of smelly runners, LOL! Wonder if they'll run separate tenders...
Harp Girl Posted January 14, 2008 #103 Share Posted January 14, 2008 We're sailing on the Zuiderdam on Feb 9, 2008 and there's a group listed that's going to be on board called Satron. Does anyone know who they are? I'm not really concerned, when we cruised to Alaska on the Oosterdam last July there was a group from Focus on Family that was 900 strong and we really didn't notice any problems. They took over the lounge most of the day, but not during the time the shows were scheduled. They were friendly and very nice and they left plenty of room for the rest of us in the casino! ;)
O2B@C Posted January 17, 2008 #104 Share Posted January 17, 2008 We're sailing on the Zuiderdam on Feb 9, 2008 and there's a group listed that's going to be on board called Satron. Does anyone know who they are? ... I did a Google search, and all I could find was a company in Finland called Satron that makes hi-tech scientific instruments. Maybe this is a group cruise for their employees and/or customers? That probably wouldn't be too bad.
Rare richwmn Posted January 17, 2008 #105 Share Posted January 17, 2008 It is a TA in ND which puts together groups hosted by individuals there. I would guess smallish groups. I didn't realize I had misspelled the name -- it is Satrom. http://www.satromtravel.com/special_events.asp Rich
hammybee Posted January 22, 2008 #106 Share Posted January 22, 2008 bishop84 Charters Noordam will be doing a series of 7-day full ship charters in June/July - I believe they are for State Farm. This looks interesting. The Noordam is MIA 6/18-7/16.
O2B@C Posted January 22, 2008 #107 Share Posted January 22, 2008 Zuiderdam, Western Med, Oct. 11-23 - classical music group. Details at: http://www.geekcruises.com/top_b/cl01_top.html Looks like they will be occupying some of the public spaces on sea days, plus some onboard evening receptions. Probably will draw a well-behaved, classy crowd, though.:) (Actually, I wouldn't mind going on this one myself, if I had the time and $$ - lots of $$. )

Rare richwmn Posted March 16, 2008 #112 Share Posted March 16, 2008 I, or friends, have properly visited the site (wa70.com/hdisplay.php) from bellsouth.net, charter, comcast, and the cable co in Salisbury NC. There was a problem Friday which was fixed Friday morning. If someone is having a problem and will contact me directly, I will attempt to see what is wrong. Rare richwmn Posted March 17, 2008 #115 Share Posted March 17, 2008 Thanks for the clarification, it has now been corrected. It may take a day or so for the change to be applied everywhere. Rich

Since no one has any other answer, I will tell you what I know. My list was generated due to interest on this board. In following threads about groups, I have seen a list for CCL, but no where else (but I might have missed one). I do not believe any board other than here and CCL has such a list. lvdave Posted March 23, 2008 #118 Share Posted March 23, 2008 Your list shows that the 4/5/08 sailing of the Ryndam will have a carplayer poker group on board. I went to their web site and it doesn't show this cruise. Can you verify that the group will be on this cruise? Thanks
Rare richwmn Posted March 24, 2008 #119 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Your list shows that the 4/5/08 sailing of the Ryndam will have a carplayer poker group on board. I went to their web site and it doesn't show this cruise. Can you verify that the group will be on this cruise? Thanks The information was correct at the time it was added. There are several reasons you might not have found it. First is that there are several groups offering poker cruises. Second, since the cruise is not far off, they may have sold out and pulled it from their site. I have no way other than web searches to find these groups, so I have no one to call to verify if a group still exists. The list exists as a guide only. I hope you enjoy your cruise. You said "once was enough", could you (or anyone else who has an opinion) elaborate? They are booked on a Hawaii cruise I had considered. We sailed with this group once and on that sail, they numbered in the serious hundreds. They tended to be very casual and for the most part, did not participate in much of anything, other than poker. The dining rooms and bars were half empty. Your experience may differ.

Our b2b cruises were cancelled twice on the Westerdam as 2 segments fell on Nov 9 and after rebooking a second time one fell on Nov 23. According to our TA, she knew nothing about the group bookings until HA cancelled on us. Since then we have rebooked with Celebrity for a November cruise. According to our TA, she knew nothing about the group bookings until HA cancelled on us. Since then we have rebooked with Celebrity for a November cruise. Unless a TA stays on top of known charter organizers for the buzz, there is no way for them to know if a cruise is apt to be chartered until the charter organizer and cruise line have a contract. It's only then, that public bookings get cancelled. Celebrity is another favored cruise line for charter companies because of its size and perception of an upscale experience. Given it's almost April, I think it unlikely for there to be any further charters for 2008. I hope the third time is the charm for you.:)
