MagnoliaBlossom Posted April 20, 2012 #3277 Share Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) I'm trying to figure out if that OBC can be used to pay my "DSC"? Terms & Conditions don't seem to make sense? I believe you can use it for DSC. Some OBCs are restricted, but if memory serves mr  this one is unrestricted. Let us know what you find out. danfiveoh Posted April 22, 2012 #3278 Share Posted April 22, 2012 I just came off of the Dawn and thought I would give anyone considering applying for the NCL card prior to a cruise that, if you apply while on board, they also give you a 2 for 1 certificate at any of the specialty restaurants. Also, once approved, you can transfer your on board account to the new NCL card so that you get 2X points.
MagnoliaBlossom Posted April 26, 2012 #3279 Share Posted April 26, 2012 Update on my capital one venture plan. Still not a bad deal but ... Plan was tp charge 1,000 for upcoming cruise to satisfy the spending requiremeny. Then use my 92,000 miles plus $80 to pay the bill. This scenario was presented to the service rep and she said yes, you could split aninvoice. Now, I try to do that and they say I must have 100,000 miles to pay the invoice. Grrr. I had a suspicion that would be the case, which is why I asked. Had I known that I would have made my payment to the cruise line as 920 and 180. Anyway, just a heads up in case you too are scheming for free travel. Now to go pay my mechanic, which ought to put me closer to my miles!

refox3488 Posted May 4, 2012 #3281 Share Posted May 4, 2012 I'm thinking about applying for this card, but I would be more interested in the cabin upgrades then the OBC. So I was wondering if you could apply the points towards an upgraded cabin after you had already booked the cabin, or if you have to have all of the points before booking? Also, do you have to book directly with NCL to be able to upgrade or can you upgrade a booking that was made with a travel agent?
MagnoliaBlossom Posted May 11, 2012 #3282 Share Posted May 11, 2012 I am not sure how the upgrade works, but I would think you could do it after booking. You can use any agent you like or direct with NCL. Remember there is a cash back feature and many times it is better to get the cash back and then use that money for upgrades, OBC, excursions or even for cruises onother lines  or whatever. It only makes sense to use the cash back if you can get the full one percent. mB
tymike Posted June 16, 2012 #3283 Share Posted June 16, 2012 I have a BOA NCL card and am accumulating points which I plan to use on a July, 2013 cruise. My question is whether points earned from the worldperks 'mall' count toward NCL use. For example, if I buy stuff from a retailer on their site that gives 8 points per dollar, do those points get added to my available point balance which I can apply to my cruise? Or can I only use use points earned through NCL and/or earned at random retail places? I hope that question makes sense! I'm hoping to 'go to town' running up the card paying off the cruise, but there are some great retailers that offer pretty great bonus points (like 8, 9, or more points per dollar spent). Also, am I right that I would not be able to apply for a second card and receive the sign up bonus? Thanks all!:)

anniversay/grad trip Posted June 16, 2012 #3285 Share Posted June 16, 2012 Does anyone know if a non-resident can apply? It asks for your country of residence on the on-line form and there is a drop down box. I clicked Canada, but then when they ask for state, the drop down box is only US cities...anyone know a way around that?
MagnoliaBlossom Posted June 16, 2012 #3286 Share Posted June 16, 2012 You may have to call them apply by phone. Let us know how it comes out, please.

Just thought I would add, although it's probably been covered some where in this long thread, that points can be transferred from one BOA-Worldpoints account to the other....in increments starting at 2500 I believe. tymike Posted June 18, 2012 #3289 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Thank you Got Tequila for the information on the mastercard points. It's time to go into shopping overdrive for the next 10 months! :D Do you happen to know what the turn around time is for redeeming points in order for them to be credited for OBC? tymike Posted June 23, 2012 #3290 Share Posted June 23, 2012 Hi again! Just a heads up. I have indeed started my point accumulation mission and shopped at three Worldpoints Mall websites last week. My statement was online today, and I was not credited for the bonus points; I was only given 1 point per dollar. I called BOA and they will file a claim, but I just wanted to encourage users to check their statements to insure that you are being credited properly. Hopefully this is just a one time thing, but next month will tell! Thanks for listening (reading?)!
Rare Clay Clayton Posted June 27, 2012 #3291 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Relatively new to the NCL Worldcard world and trying to figure out how best to use my rewards. I have a few points over 25k points and understand from reading the BOA website that I can get $250obc or $250 check from BOA. I understood from reading on here that the cash back would be less than the obc but it's the same according to what I just read....did I miss something? My real question is about the balcony upgrade for 30k. Has anyone done that? What are the restrictions? We have an inside booked on Jade for next April which currently it looks like would cost us about $240 to move us up to the lowest ocean view. If from there we can move up to a balcony for 30k points then it looks to me like we would be "spending" about $540 total to move from the Inside to the balcony. That is a "savings" of about $300 over what it would cost us if we just changed our reservation to the lowest cat balcony. Seems like a deal ...but maybe there are restrictions that would keep us from being able to do this. Lastly, I wonder what affect having my reservation as part of a group at a big retail warehouse's online TA. It came with an obc and prepaid gratuities so if we were gonna lose those it would wipe out the "savings". Thanks for any advice.

I have never had a problem getting them except from 1-800 Pet Meds that refused to give the bonus on Frontline claiming it was a prescription. Having done the OBC vs cashback thing a few times now with NCL, I will ALWAYS take the cash in the future. When you choose OBC, you always have to check the statement late in the cruise to make sure it's been credited, and if it hasn't, it means at least a trip to the desk if not further problems getting it cleared. With the cash, it's a matter of a few clicks of the mouse and bang, there is a check in your mailbox. A no-brainer to me. It is true that cash only equals OBC when you reach the level of $250, however; I cash in whenever I reach that, and I can use it any darn old way I want.

Rare OttawaJohn Posted June 30, 2012 #3295 Share Posted June 30, 2012 I just realized this is for Bank of America. Anyone know if a Canadian can get it (without a US address) or if NCL has a deal with another Canadian company?
Buford T Justiice Posted July 3, 2012 #3296 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Interestingly, this evening I called and redeemed some points for OBC. During the conversation I was told that (a) The OBC could not be used for gratuities, and (b) once the transaction was complete it was non refundable. I'll be taking the cash back in the future, why chance it?

travelerpair Posted July 14, 2012 #3300 Share Posted July 14, 2012 We applied for the card on board and received a bonus for this. We both applied for a card and received the bonus. It was for OBC and points. We were approved immediately and used the cards for our bill and therefore received more points. So far this has been a great bonus for using a credit card for a specific product. We are taking another cruise next year and will use the card and our points for OBC and the casino. I think I will look up and see if applying for another will be a benefit to us. You need gas and food so why not get something in return.
