.....:(

That's what I thought about the Compass points...would have signed up a few years earlier if I had read postings from all the happy customers. I'm getting the impression that we're going to see companies cutting back on all these award programs in the future. The most I ever paid over what I spent on my Compass reward card was the fee to get a payment there on time 1st billing period because it was after 5PM when I was getting around to paying it but I got $2500 off on cruises and have 2 100 point upgrade cert to use before Jan sometime. Figure I'll send them in even though they won't amount to much unless somebody uses them as $100. I think I read somewhere that happened for someone but can't find it now...maybe I was dreaming?

You didn't by chance get the amount you can spend on Cruises in Jan-Mar? I'm guessing that 2x on BOA might have the $15-20 on Discover beat. Since I'm sure I will drop at least the $100 of slot play in the casino I might as well use 5000 points to get that instead of $50 OBC if it is still available.

The grocery store where we shop does not take AMEX. :(

This is why I use my AMEX Blue Cash card. After you spend $6500 in a year, the bonuses increase to 5% for groceries and gas and 1.25% for everything else. There's no cap. I just put a lot of business expenses on the card as soon as I start a new year to get past the $6500.

Well I just checked on my new Discover More Cards that aren't even here yet.

Confirmed that the max per quarter is 400 or only a benefit of 20 bucks!! What a crock. Makes those cards useless.

I also read that the AMEX Blue Cash card was neutered as well. Something about the MAX benefit being slashed in the same way so you might want to check it out.

Now I'm looking back at the No Hassle Ultra. I received an invite through mail to get a regular 1 point card for no fee and up to 30K bonus miles. I tried to get the bonus miles on the Ultra 2point per dollar card... no DEAL!! They only give you bonus for the regular card which is the same as most reward cards!!

I'm telling you all the banks and credit cards are taking away all the perks... slowly but surely. This keeps up I'm going back to cash and screw the banks. They can't get a cut of money if I'm paying CASH!!!

No, sorry, the Discover website will only show me details on the current quarter and the upcoming quarter promos. You could probably call them to ask what the max purchase is for each category. Jan-Mar is all the travel stuff: airlines, hotels, cruises, but that's even more laughable than groceries if the cap is as low as $400 in purchases. Apr-June is home/fashion.

Warm Water Diver: It's not much of a promo to be sure, but I do like the 1% cash rebate with no cap to it. (At least so far there's been no cap.) We use that for business expenses and it adds up quickly, so the card's far from useless. Take note, at least on ours, you have to reach a $3000 threshold before the full 1% kicks in, like Amex Blue where you have to reach $6500 first.

So true!! I just got a notice from Capital One that on my No Hassle Rewards visa card, beginning in November, the cost of a ticket times 100 = the # of miles required. Used to be cost x 80 = # miles required. This is for the no-annual-fee card. We also have the $39 annual fee visa that earns 2 points per mile. Don't know if that's the same as the Ultra being described here. I thought I was really raking in the miles on that until I realized the redemption structure requires so many more miles to pay for a ticket, e.g. 60,000 miles for a ticket from $350.01 - $600.

At this point, I have more cards than I really want, but I'm reluctant to cancel any because I've heard so often that your credit profile looks better when it shows that many banks think you're credit worthy. So I just use some for minor charges to keep them active (like my poor old BOA NCL card).

Okay, I still can't see my NCL Mastercard balance when I log into my BOA 'Online Banking" site. Does anyone have this same problem or know where I can see it? Thanks!

I just logged on with no problem. In the center it says Norwegian Cruise LIne with the balance next to it. If you click on the Norwegian the detail shows up. Maybe you should call them.

After a nice phone call, I guess multiple BOA accounts in my "geographical" area were compromised. My account was closed and a new number issued...so if anyone else has this problem (I'm in the northeast), you might want to call!

The woman said they were mailing out new cards and letters, and did it last Friday...Otherwise, it was going to be a surprise! (I just got married this weekend, so I thanked her for my wedding gift) lol

OK C Breeze. Help me out here.

Did Discover recently change their program to limit the quarterly 5% cash back bonuses to $400? If so I'm going to cancel the cards I just got!

I only got the Discover after reading multiple credit card comparison sites touting that it was one of the best "unlimited" 5% cash back cards out there. How did all those sites omit the fact that there is a cap of 400 on those categories per quarter? That totally neuters the card.

I only got the discover to compliment my AMEX Costco card. I figured that when the quarter with 5% for gas beats my AMEX Costco card, I'll switch to the Discover. Same for the Discover Grocery quarter etc. and all else will go on my 4% gas, 3% rest and 1% thereafter AMEX Costco. That's the reason I stated that the Discover is useless if the cap is true! I'll be better off throwing everything on the Costco card. What a joke to Discover (no pun intended).

I hear that Capital One customer service and rewards has the one of the worst reps out there but the Ultra at 2 points per dollar and 39 annual fee does start to look like the better winner at this point!

If I'm wrong about the Discover rewards, can someone confirm?

I will be honest here. I really never kept track of the Discover points/cash back, since the other cards were better and I didn't use the Discover as much, so I don't know if this was a change in policy or if they have several different types of cards out there. I just hope Capital One doesn't change their program, or I may just accumulate Costo Amex reward and forget the rest of this......

I'm in NE and have received emails and calls from BOA fraud protection, twice. Hubby's last week and mine today. I didn't get any answers to my whys? His card has not been used since last December and I use mine rarely and mostly online for that "Ad it Up" promotion they have. Instead of driving 10 minutes to Staples, I ordered my computer online with reward discount cards they send me. Delivered free next AM and the nice man carried it up stairs to my living room. Then BOA gave me 4% x 2 back.

During the phone call I explained to the guy how I did not get my double points from my OB account purchases once I activated my "temporary" World points card and I better get NCL card and double points for my final payment I made last week. Took a girl 3 weeks to straighten out that mistake. I'm starting to wonder if they are testing me to see if I will take the time to call and say my card is not right, some people wouldn't bother.

1st they take away my Compass points and now we deal w/fraud.

If you are asking about fraud protection messages, hubby had old card w/ship across it which was replaced with the same having new number and mine was silver w/NCL ship image at the top. Nice to read the numbers easily, who knows what I will get in 5-7 days. I also have to sign affidavid and return to have charges off, he doesn't know what I am talking about. Either selective hearing or maybe nothing was actually charged to his card?

My cousin has a $500 certificate that she will not be able to use. It expires 10/11/09. She will give it to me if I can use it, but I don't think the certificates are transferable. I would book something next week if it were. Anybody, have any experience transferring certificates, or could she book it for me...like a gift maybe?

Unfortunately, the Compass Reward Certificates can only be used by the person who's name is on the certificate, and they must be one of the people in the cabin. Can't you convince your cousin to take a last minute cruise with your someplace? :D Hate to se those certificates go to waste.... http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=CompassRewardsFAQ

[Of course, if you were thinking about booking a last minute cruise using the certificate, you should be aware that there are some pretty good deals if you book a few weeks before sailing. Maybe you want to think about that. :D

QUOTE=breezer;21380199]Thanks, c breeze for the quick response. I was pretty sure that was the answer. What a shame it will be wasted.

breezer,

It is possible that you could book a short cruise with the certificate, in both your and your cousins names and then you check in and just have her no show. There wouldn't be any refund of her cruise fare, but if it were something like a 3 night Sky cruise, you might still get some value out of it that way. Her name would be on the reservation with her points. I don't know if this is an option, but I thought it might be one way to use part of it.

Hi All,

I've just booked the last 'free' cruise . I've emailed NCL, and they've applied the BoA Final Certs. Question is, do I still need to mail the certs to NCL? The most recent BoA letter, that said to email NCL the info, left me slightly confused as to if I need to mail them or not.

No, if you're cruise is showing Paid in full, there is no need to mail them in. When you emailed the numbers on your certs, that took care of them.
