Have 2 $500 certificates for cashing in from when it was Compass Rewards. On back it said that as long as cruise was booked by expiration date of Nov. 8, 2009, the sailing date could be till Jan. 31, 2011. Because BOA put the letters "NO" after the exp. date, NCL is saying they will not honor it as they will not get paid since the "NO" means all has to be completed by Nov. 8. I am out $1000 as cruise is in 2010...has anyone else fought this battle? I've talked to numerous employees and no one is honoring what it says on the back.

Trying escalating, I have had a very very bad experience with Bank of America which led to a bad experience with NCL...

Trying calling this number to speak with them and voice your complaint, make sure you state the terms on the back of the card. I found this from another poster here on cruise critic.

This is what the letter I received from BOA on Aug 11, 2009 stated about redeeming Compass Certificates.

All the Final Certificates (ending "FC") regardless of the date which appears on the Final Certificate expire on January 31, 2010. All cruises which are booked using the Final Certificate must be booked by January 31, 2010 and must sale by January 31, 2011.

It also states on the back page of the letter: "NO" certificates will expire on the expiration date printed on the certificate and must sail by the expiration date listed on the certificate.

I'm guessing that the "NO" certificates were the ones that were requested from NCL instead of being automatically sent to you at the end on the program. The "NO" certificates expire per the original program 1 year from the date of issuance.

Someone please correct me if I'm guessing wrong since my certificates were the "FC" type.

that my 300 points didn't get $300 off a cruise since the card was dead, but 3 upgrade certs which are totally useless when you book BA and you cannot be upgraded to a Deluxe Balcony aka Mini Suite or a uite since we also go another cert for our sailing last year, so that is 4 upgrades to nowhere.

I almost threw away the (2) 100 point upgrade certificates thinking that they were going to be worthless to me too. I thought that they could not be combined with the (2) $500 certs that I also received.

We ended up booking a BB so I sent in the upgrade certs anyways and ended up being upgraded to a BA and the price difference ended up being a $500 savings compared to what we originally paid for the BB and what the BA is going for right now.

That's in addition to the (2) $500 certs that I had already applied to the same booking!

I logged into my BOA account to review my statement and check to see if my reward points were correct since my monthly statement just closed. I can't find anything that says reward points:eek: Where is the tab that said REWARDS:eek: Has anyone noticed this? The other change is they upped my limit, which I don't care about. I want my reward points. I should have close to 30,000.

OK, I just downloaded my statement dated Nov. 7 and it does show total points. On the BOA site though my rewards tab is missing and there is no place to see anything about points, rewards or even getting extra points through the the online shopping feature or anywhere to redeem points.

My rewards tab is back this morning. I don't know what the problem was.

my 2 $100.00 upgrades were useless too, we booked on the epic in nov.2010,i was told to send them in by ncl sales, they said i would get an upgrade or maybe some type ship credit, I got them both back stating they can/t be used on epic, I feel ncl is not fair to there loyal custumers. and i hope they see this . maybe if we write them to complain we will get some satisfaction.

There are more posts than I can sort through but hopefully someone can easily answer this question.

My NCL card is fairly new but I did use it to book our Dec. cruise and I have some points I'd like to turn in for OBC. When I called BOA they said since I didn't book through them (World Perks) I can't cash in the points for credit. Is that true? I did use the card to pay for the cruise but I used another TA.

Shouldn't I be able to exchange the points anyway? Do I call the number on the back of my card? I waited on hold on the phone WAY too long only to be turned down.

Thanks!

Try calling NCL directly. They've been able to do all the transfers for me in the past, altho with the way BoA has been screwing with the system, who knows what's happening now.

I'd give NCL a try and see what happens.

This is getting ridiculous. And scary. I'll be trying to redeem some points soon - I'll let you know how I make out.

It was unbelievable the first time the credit card companies jacked up our interest rates, doubled minimum payments and tacked on huge fees to try and beat a new February law that will end many of their abusive ways.

Now, they're at it again, and getting even more creative — but with your help, we can stop them cold!

Thanks to a huge outcry from American cardholders, the House just passed a bill to freeze interest rate hikes on your card balances, and give you new protections starting Dec. 1 — just in time for the holiday season. Now, we need the Senate to do the same!

E-mail your Senators right now to stop the rate increases — we can't afford to wait!

This continued attack on your wallet is no accident. A major credit card reform law goes into effect in February. The card companies begged Congress to delay its implementation so that they could "update their systems" to comply with the new law.

But instead, they've spent the time hitting you with new tricks — like a fee for paying off card balances each month. Or variable rate cards that only "vary" if interest rates increase, but don't give you the full break if interest rates drop in your favor.

If the companies can retool their computers to accommodate these tricks, there's no reason they can't abide by the new rules right now. After the recent bipartisan House vote, we have real momentum to stop these abuses. Now the Senate must hear that we can't afford the credit card company tactics, especially with the holidays approaching.

Tell your Senators to stop the rate increases and implement reforms NOW!

After you e-mail the Senate, please forward this to anyone you know who is fed up with these tactics. We have immense power when we band together — let's put the pressure on now!

Sincerely,

Jim Guest

President, Consumers Union

OK, I have something good to say about NCL BOA redemption right now.

DH has enough points on his card to redeem for $100 OBC. We sail Nov. 29.

I called NCL was transferred to World Points redemption dept. within a few minutes after I called and explained we wanted the OBC for points earned. Rosemary who handled my request could not have been more helpful or efficient.

within 5 minutes of my call to NCL I received an e-mail confirmation for exchange of our points for $100 OBC for our cruise. We sail a week from Sunday. I was expecting to get a hard time but got only good service and quick service from my call.

I am cruising in January and using the last of my reward points from the old system, $500 worth plus a $100 upgrades for my wife and I.

Has anybody used points earned on the new system? I am NOT happy with it and have considered dropping the card altogether.

I use my BOA card instead of carrying cash and run up close to $2K a month most of the time. I got this card and changed my spending habits for the sole purpose of the cruise rewards.

Check out Capital One for Ultra Professionals. The NCL BOA MC is now not any better than any other cruise line card. :(

Hubby got offer for 5x points for up to 3500 until Dec 31. We haven't used that card since last Dec. Worth spending $700. :D Tried to transfer his points to my account but needed a minimum of 2500. This should do it. I use my account for NCL purchases and Add it Up deals from BOA.

I cashed in 5000 points for $100 of slot play. Will do that again next cruise. Money is loaded on Casino Card and can be played in $5 multiples. Only $50 if used as OBC.

Thinking of booking through the TA Discover card uses. They are taking 10% off lowest advertised price of cruise portion and then I can get another $200 for the free $100 reward they gave me for opening account. The girl I talked to said they also will honor price drops until final payment. Do you think they noticed that they closed my card with them earlier this year because I never used it? :D

I have 3 certificates from the old Compass Reward Points. Its 100 points One Category Upgrade. I have 3 of them. Can I trade these in for onboard credit? What would 300 points get me? I have to book a cruise by 1/31/10 in order to use them but can cruise anytime until 1/31/2011.

I do not believe you can get any onboard credit for these. A few lucky people were able to swing this when the certs were first issued in Feb, but that was it. The certs will get you a one catagory upgrade for three people, or if there are two of you traveling, a two catagory upgrade for one of you and a one catagory upgrade (you would have to pay for the second catagory upgrade) for the second person. The upgrade must be inside to inside, or outside to outside, or balcony to balcony. I do not believe they can be used for suites. Hope this helps. They are not worth much.....

All I can say is, you never know until you ask. I emailed the info for our last two Compass Reward certs last Friday, and they were applied today.

I also had three 100 upgrade certs. I mentioned that I had read that pax had been able to use them for OBC in the past, and asked if that was possible. We did not receive OBC, but they did change decrease the price of the AF I had booked to the price of a BA, then "upgraded" us back into the original AF. It's only a difference of $60, but it's $60 less we'll have to make when final payment is due, and we wouldn't have gotten it if I hadn't asked. ;)

We just returned from the Sky 3 nighter over Christmas, 12/25-12/28/09 and DW, DS (14) and I shared a Cat. II Superior Inside cabin that was totally paid for with $1,000.00 in credit from the old rewards program on the MC. Booked it in January, then applied the credit to it (total of $992 for the three of us at the time I booked, including port fees & taxes). Then during early 2009 months I earned enough on the new World Points to get both a $100 OBC and a $50 OBC, and NCL correctly processed these credits onto our stateroom account, so it was a terrific "free" cruise.

I've been away from this board for a while. Got disgusted w/ the new program so decide to "detox" and refrain from reading the board  Anyway, I had a new grandbaby so how hard was deciding between baby rocking and posting?:D

So, anyway - I'm baaack. We have an upcoming NCL cruise in August - the Baltics and I have made my deposit w/ my last 3 Compass Certificates and am accruing points for the balance which is due in May. So, yesterday I was looking at how the online point transfer thing works (a friend told me she had done it recently and it was quite easy - of course, she's a brain surgeon {really} and what are the chances that NCL/BoA made something easy?) So, while I'm perusing the site I notice that contrary to what my original letter said, you can redeem in 20,000 point incremints rather than 25,000. I'm sure ya'll have posted about this but I'm being lazy and have not read the zillion posts that have cropped up in my absence. Since I juggle 6 NCL cards to maximize my per year points, it will make my current situation much easier to be able to redeem 10, 20 or 50,, 000 point increments and have the 10K actually give you the same value as a greter value amount Did that make sense?

I mean w/ one of the other cards you can redeem 10,000 points but it gives you something like A$80 rather than $100.

The smaller, yet equal, redemption allows me to pay "in full" more easily w/ points than the $500 certificates did. Of course, I would loooove to have the old system back but at least there is a teeny, tiny bit of good in this new format.

Happy New Year to all,

Magnolia

My opinion: Don't bother.

I recently got one, drawn in part for the bonus points. I called the NCL World points redemption number before my cruise. I asked to redeem 5000 points for $100 in slot play. NCL said no problem, took the points and sent two confirmatory emails including the correct reservation number. We boarded Friday. No certificate came to the room day one as suggested by an email. We went to the casino three times. Finally we were told we could NOT have the slot play. NCL now says it cannot be combined with our fare. Mind you, NCL said fin when they took the points, but now NCL says NO. I have to call a number when we return to try to reclaim my points. Hope that I get them back because there's no way I get my slot play reward. I wish I'd never bothered to get the NCL MasterCard. Lots of runaround, no rewards, no applogy.
