Please tell me that I am not the only one with this many suitcases :)

Just read Jim and Ruth's packing thread and had a good laugh.

On our 10 day Noordam cruise, we each had one large suitcase and one carry on and we shared a garment bag, and I think I actually planned well and wore everything I brought with me on that cruise.

The only problem was the stuff we bought for the grandkids. Next time I'm going to take a Le Sportsac suitcase that folds into nothing and put it inside one suitcase. Then I'll have it for the stuff we buy.

I've seen the pictures of Jim and Ruth's slippers, but I sure would love to see them up close.

I was mortified with all the luggage we had...when we got to South Station for the 10 day Noordam cruise, we were not too happy having to schlepp the two large rolling suitcases, two small rolling suitcases and my carry on make up type case from the street level drop off spot up three flights to the bus area (somehow, we both envisioned getting out of the limo and walking directly to the bus...LOL!)

After that, I swore that the next time, we will each bring one suitcase and one very small carry-on! And, like you, Carol, a roll up bag for the gifts for our grandkids!

I"m wondering how some of you manage all those suitcases? Between my husband and I we have two large suitcases plus two 22 inch rollaboards and my over the shoulder purse. That is one suitcase for each hand. I know you can do a curb checkin, but we have always hesitated to do that. Then when you pick up your luggage at the end of the trip, the carts only are allowed to go so far.

"Then when you pick up your luggage at the end of the trip, the carts only are allowed to go so far."

And this is when I tell my DH that "next time I won't take so much stuff with me " :)

Well tomorrow my DH, my four suitcases, my carry on, large pocketbook leave for Seattle.

Will try to post some live reports from the Noordam.

Last time from the Oosterdam, the connection was slow, if it moves fairly quickly I will post.

"See" you all when I return.

Anyway, be grateful you don't live a hundred years in the past where everyone had to have steamer trunks with maids or valets because you changed clothes four times a day!

And the problem with that would be...?

Ok, pretty well packed for Alaska. I swore I would get everything into three cases this time, but...........:( I am into 4 again. Two large regular cases and 2 valet cases.

My DH sometimes looks out into the hall at night (before we disembark) and asks me why everyone else only has 2 cases outside their cabins.

Yikes, I forgot about the carry on!!!

So..........Am I The Only One with 4??

Barbara :)

If those four are just for YOU, then you pack more than we do, and I thought we had a lot! :D We usually have a total of 2 large bags we check and two carry-ons we, well, carry on, plus a laptop and a HUGE purse thingie my wife brings.

But give yourself a break; you're going to Alaska so you have a lot of bulky clothes, right? At least you can say you do!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I think if your wedding dress/gown is a sheath, close to the body, scaled down version, (no train, etc.) it may work for a formal night.

I would take the lbd plus black silk pants and skirt and switch them up with different tops. You're certainly not going to want to wear the lbd for 5 formal nights, I wouldn't think. Or, forget the lbd (I'm assuming it's an lbd) and just do the silk, crepe, whatever bottoms. Don't stress, it will all work out. ;)

I think you should wear the entire wedding dress to formal night at least once, train and all. After all, when else besides your wedding are you going to have a chance to wear it?

Congradulations,

Hobbit

I'm howling over all these posts, starting with Ruth and Jim's packing list. Do you guys really bring room decorations?

I just can't imagine having that much stuff. I don't notice if people are wearing the same things as long as they don't smell and I assume that you all don't notice that I'm wearing the same thing.

The husband and I bring one medium sized suitcase that we share and each have 1 carry-on. In the evening I take a bath and wash our clothes and hang them to dry. I know, I know, a lot of you all are like; it's vacation I don't want to do laundry. We just like the freedom of being able to walk around wherever and not have to schlep luggage.

But I'm still laughing at all the funny posts on this thread. Did I read correctly that somebody has 12 suitcases for a 7 day cruise?

I'd love to see more people's actual packing lists of each item that they brought.

If you want to see what we are bringing on our cycle tour of Alaska followed by seven-day-cruise-back-home (which we are leaving for tomorrow!) you can see a picture at http://www.evilscoutmaster.com/AKDay1.htm

The picture doesn't include the bicycles that we are bringing.

Oh and Jim, you could bring Ruth's tricycle on board with you, HAL lets you do that and doesn't even charge you extra. You just have to keep the trike in your cabin.

We rent a u haul to get her luggage to the docks as it will not all fit in the Explorer.

We have contacted some frinds in San Diego to ship out luggage before we fly there so she will have all her stuff.

I just say "YES DEAR" and pack it....

That is so funny and amazing. LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Ruth is a pain to purchase birthday presents for.

Last year i got her a Megladon Sharks tooth and gave it to her on top of a cake... while on the Veendam.

This year got her a slot machine and am trying to get permission to take it on 11/25 cruise on the Veendam and give it to her in the Casino.

Only problem HOW DO YOU PACK A SLOT MACHINE SO IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A SLOT MACHINE?

Not worried about the luggage as we always take a lot and they are accustomed to us bringing several boxes with us.

In our group who traveled together there was a family of 4 who would have a total of 12 bags. There would be 8 suitcases and 4 carry ons. Her husband and 2 sons each were left with one suitcase. One carry on was a train case used for her makeup. One of 5 suitcases for her shoes. This would be for a 7 day cruise mind you.

Have my hubby pack for you:D . We just returned from a 13 day land/sea cruise tour to Alaska. We took 1 large suitcase each and only 1 carry-on.

Here's what we managed to take:

My formal dress, shoes, and purse, 2 pr jeans, 2 knit pants outfits, one blouse, 1 pr. capri pants

1 pair shorts, extra tennis shoes, 1 pr. sandals

underwear enough for 5 days (bras and panties, and 3 prs. socks

I took 5 t-shirts, 2 long sleeved t's, & 2 long sleeved shirts

swimsuit and cover-up

night gown, jacket, and rain suit

cosmetics and makeup, curling iron, power strip and 2 extension cords

He took 4 t shirts, 2 short sleeved casual shirts and 1 knit polo, 1 long underwear turtleneck, underwear for 5 days, 5 prs. socks, 1 pr. jeans, 1 pr. shorts, 1 pr. casual pants, raincoat and jacket, suit and shoes for formal nite. 1 pr lounge pants ( sleep pants), swimsuit

We also took a backpack, 35 mm camera with lenses, video camera, 2 pr. binoculars, small digital camera in my purse, 5 rolls film, 2 boxes of cd's for the video camera and an umbrella; chargers for cell phone, video camera, and also charger and batteries for digital camera

We also both have sleep apnea so needed to take 2 cpap machines

We only did 2 loads of laundry on the cruise ship after spending 5 days on land tours. After checking our bags at the airport, we only had the 2 cpaps, my purse, and the one carry-on to contend with and we even had enough room to bring home some souvenirs!

The secret is to roll everything; I put my undies in gallon size ziplock bags and squeezed all the air out and put those in the outside pouches of my suitcase. Hang everything up when you get there; I brought wrinkle spray but didn't use it - the laundry room on the ship had an iron if needed.
