All things Monarch of the Seas

They will let you in if you are wearing jeans, but you will be in the minority. There is still a formal night on the 4 night sailing, but on the 3 night I believe its smart casual. You would probably be less out of place in a pair of dockers and collared shirt. While I did see a tux or two last month on formal night, that was far from the norm. More like a button down shirt and a tie. If you don't want to do the tie, you could could forgo that and be fine.

Thanks. I dont mind being in the minority at all. I was in the minority on the 5 night in march.

The good news is they did away with Formal Night. They call it Smart Casual. But the other two nights you should be fine with jeans and a shirt. Don't think they want flip flops and bathsuits but you said that's not what you would wear anyway. Have fun and don't worry about what other people on this board or on the ship say if it's not nice.

Happy Cruising!!!!!!!

Thanks! we cant wait. Last cruise was just the 2 of us but this one we have 2 other couples who are really good friends going so we are really excited about it. Funny thing is the other 2 guys are being forced to wear ties by their wives, mine knew not to even ask so I get to pick on them a little. I just like being comfortable. Thanks a bunch!!!

First post here so go easy on me. Its my second RC cruise (1st was on Grandeur of the Seas back in March). We will be headed off next month on Monarch for a "long weekend". Here's my question, I am not the type of person that likes to dress up for dinner. On the Grandeur they were very laid back and let us in with jeans and Tshirts for the "formal" dinner.

The 3 night - "Long Weekend" Monarch cruise no longer has a formal night, it is now smart casual. Enjoy your cruise!

WhiteNite- I see your new here so you may want to go to Roll Call http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=267 and look for the date you will be sailing on. You get to meet some people before you ever set foot on the Monarch.

swooldri- I'm not sure but I think they did away with all Formal Night and the 3 and 4 nighters. I'm sure some one will know better. If not I'll let you know after Oct.29 when I get back :o

4 Night cruises on Monarch still have formal night. This was from our most recent sailing in September - like last month! We plan on being formal again during our Diamond Event cruise on Monarch in December.

For the 4 night "smart casual" night on Monarch in two weeks, the DH will have a nice pair of Khaki dockers, a blue sport coat, button down long sleeve and cute "tropical tie". (His request).

I will be in a comfortable little black dress, which is always a verstatile choice, and easy to pack. ;)

What cruise are you on in December? We are on the 12/13 sailing.

That would be the one. Might get to meet more of our neighbors. Last year on Freedom, we were at a table where everyone lived in Viera, Rockledge or had lived there previously. We are on the river at US 1 and Viera Blvd.

Anyone done multiple B2B's on the Monarch while she was sailing out of Port Canaveral? Wondering what to expect. Do they make you get off and reprocess? I've read and shearched on B2B's but they seem differ by ship. So, would appreciate info for the Monarch.

We did a B2B on Monarch last December. The small group met at Guest Relations around 9:00 AM and were escorted off the ship swiping our first segment sea passes on the way out. Then after going thru customs, our escort handed us our new sea passes and we then returned to the ship. Have a great B2B!!!!

The MN no longer has formal nights(at least on the 3nighter)......you can wear what you want, but just suggesting maybe something more than jeans and t shirt.........maybe nice jeans and a button down or polo shirt...........But you're right, you can basically wear what you want.

Is this the same on Majesty? No more formal night on the 3 nighter?

Thanks for the info. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but better to know ahead of time. If we have to get off anyway, maybe there is something close by to do?

Getting off and back on takes 3-5 minutes max. There is NOTHING nearby to do. We really enjoyed having the run of the ship for a couple of hours.:D

if i do dress up, will i be out of place, not formal dress up, just nicely dressed up?

You would never be "out of place" if you are nicely dressed. I would feel totally out of place should I go to a nice function and be "under dressed".

If you shine like a new penny...then that is what you are!! :D

Youre doing multiple b2bs so get with the pursers office the first day and discuss youre options.....on carnival they wanted you to get off, but once I got with the head purser they gave me my new card that morning after everyone was off and i just basically walked off to the swipe machine and did the new card....walked right back..... Do you have the same room ??

Same room, 5 B2B's so it could get a little old getting off and on. And all those muster drills....

  • 3 weeks later...

I was already booked for the 12/13 cruise. Then I found this incredible deal for the Allure in February, so I decided to do another Monarch on 1/10 so I will be Diamond when I go on the Allure. Prices on the Monarch were very reasonable, and I drive down from DeLand so it is easy. Will be on the roll calls for each Monarch cruise, so I may catch some of you over there.

Had a great little 4 nighter of which we just got off the ship on Friday. We were able to make Coco Cay and had a wonderful time snorkeling.

Thought it odd to have formal night on the Nassau port day. Many people missed it due to being in town so long. We enjoyed it, however, as Nassau is not a favorite of ours. We only spent a short time off the ship there. Whole cruise is worth it for us just to be able to enjoy Coco Cay.

That cruise enabled me to become a humble Platinum, which came about just in time to take advantage of the balcony discount on my Jewel cruise. The on board booking is also a bonus with that OBC will we enjoy! :D

Hi all!

Couple questions for you experts. :)

I'm considering booking a 3-night cruise on the Monarch in Dec as a surprise birthday present for my DH!

I've been on the Majesty before (in 2006 I believe) and the Mariner in 2008. I was in an oceanview room on the Majesty... how much smaller are inside staterooms on the Monarch as compared to an oceanview room? I didn't mind the size at all of the oceanview room on the Majesty and am wondering how it compares to an inside. Are the staterooms refurbed to have that newer green looking comforter thing (if that makes sense lol). I'm also just wondering how the Monarch compares in general to the Majesty.

Also, is it possible when we check-in to see if there are any open oceanview rooms available and upgrade? Is this usually discounted if so?

I am a planner and so this feels last minute for me lol, but there are some great deals for the first 2 weekends in December, and my DH has some time off work!

Also- will Christmas decorations be up on the ship at that time? Any idea on what the weather is like in Dec (always cruised previously in the summer months)? Seas usually rough?

Any other advice/info?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Welcome aboard! I know you will have a great time on Monarch. The inside staterooms are the same size as oceanview, although it may seem smaller. On the lower decks (2 and 3) you may have a porthole instead of a window. On deck 7, the windows are large, but that is also the deck for the walking and lifeboat drills, so it's easy for folks to 'look' in your room. You can close the sheers for some privacy.

My favourite deck is 6; it's the 'half deck', so the traffic is less, and it's convenient to just about anything I want to do.

I find the beds are comfy, and I do believe that comforter is available.

Upgrades are a hit/miss thing. Sometimes there may be some no-shows and you may get an upgrade after we sail, rather than when you check in. They have to wait to see who finally shows up!

The deals are there, for sure!

Yes the ship will be beautifully decorated for the holidays. I am always amazed at how they put up all that stuff in one day in port!

Not to downgrade the Monarch, but you will not be able to compare this to Mariner at all which is a different class, much more amenities. Just understand that Monarch is smaller, cozier, but still has alot to offer.

The weather should be mild; I have cruised to Nassau during holiday season, and it was fine.

To me, a cruise is a cruise, and I enjoy every one of mine!

Best wishes! Bon voyage!
