Not another proper attire thread!

There seems to be a lot of hositility on here about the proper attire for Celebrity. Many threads that start off asking an innocent question seem to turn ugly and get closed or disappear all together. Hopefully we can keep this one open and address only the following questions:

Have you ever been denied entrance into the dining room for what you were wearing? If so, what was the night's dress code and what were you wearing? Please, no second hand and/or anecdotal responses.

Not to the dining room but my husband was turned away from the theater after he changed from his tux to slacks and a tropical shirt after dinner.

I have personally seen two women turned away at the entrance of the dining room because they had on slacks and tropical shirts, on formal night.

Yikes! Never have I seen anyone turned away from a public area, but I have heard the "evening hours" dress code is enforced. ;)

Why do I ask? - Many of the attire threads develop into personal attacks or debates. By asking those that have been turned away to share their experiences, we can better inform all cruisers without it being a debate. I asked also that it also be firsthand, that way we know, without a doubt, that attire was the issue.

I would love to know if the theater incident was on Celebrity, considering they offer casual dining. Certainly you would be allowed to enter the theater for the show after dinner? Maybe not.

copied from previous thread: "Casual Dining Boulevard Deck 10 Aft

The dress code is casual every day. Although in all other areas the dress code of the evening applies. We kindly ask for your cooperation and condsideration for your fellow guests"

Perhaps it was an overenthusiastic member of staff at the theatre entrance - we were on the Galaxy recently and no problem on formal nights with anyone in casual rather than formal attire. We always change down post-dinner, and so did many others around us.

I can tell you without a doubt that it was attire that turned the women away. We were standing right behind them! They were Friends of Dorothy and stated that they didn't have any formal clothes, as they don't even wear dresses. One of the women was furious, while the second tried to brush it off. It happened on the Millie.

I'd like to know, also. However, I know Celebrity use to have the "evening" dress code and I gather that if you ate in the casual venue, you were suppose to stay away from the more formal areas of the ship, i.e. the theater, the grand foyer, casino and bars.

OK, this is the first and will be the last attire thread to which I have ever contributed.

Yes, it was on Celebrity. It was either the Connie or the Summit. Couple of years ago. Maybe 2003 or 4.

At the time, you were requested to maintain the atmosphere throughout the evening. He didn't. I enjoyed the show. :D

Friends of Dorothy is a group of gays and lesbians. A group meeting is offered on most cruises throughout many cruiselines. :)

Women who are friends of Dorothy can dress formally, too. If they don't enjoy wearing dresses, they can wear suits. I've even seen women in tuxedos.

I'm just relaying what the women said. ;) Maybe I should have put that in quotations...sorry. I seem to recall that the MD said something to them about not having dresses on.

Thank You.

I agree.

You should extend that to any thread that involves opinions and not facts.

There is a lot of great info out here on the boards.

Too bad it sometimes get lost with all the opinion and judgement post.

Am I'm a guilty as the rest of you posting my opinion to endless dress code threads:D

After a long day on excursions my husband and I took a nap before dinner. In the panic that ensued after we woke to find dinner starting in 5 minutes we dressed very fast. My husband didn't think about it and I didn't notice that he had shorts on.

Even though it was casual night in the dining room my husband was refused entrance with shorts on. My husband was a little embarrassed and immediately returned to the cabin to change. This was on the Legend of the Seas in 2005

That is the attempt of this thread although some posters are trying to turn it into opinions. I have requested posts of the actual facts of being turned away. If we can keep the opinions/judgements out of this thread, then maybe we can assist cruisers by revealing the facts.

Even though this wasn't on Celebrity, it's a great example of what I'm looking for. Thanks for sharing.

We've just returned from a B2B on Celebrity's SUMMIT....14 night Panama Canal and then a 7 night Southern Caribbean. (same ship/same cabin....Jan 5/08 to Jan 26/08)

There was a "Noticeable" difference in... attire and attention... to dress code between these two cruises! The second and shorter cruise had a much younger group onboard...more children as well.

The Dress Code was "respected and adhered too" on the PC cruise but on the SC cruise the dress code was a "free for all". The "Informal" nights were the worse. People didn't seem to know (or care) what Informal meant. We saw "lots" of jeans...shorts...t-shirts...flip-flops etc in the Dining Room on Informal nights with "No one" enforcing the dress code at the door! My DH and the other male tablemates all felt overdressed in their sport jackets, shirts, and ties on the SC cruise!

As an added observation...the service and attention to details was quite different between the two cruises as well. (There was a major crew change and Captain change in San Juan.)...

On the SC cruise... the buffet and pool areas the crew let dirty dishes pile up on tables...tables weren't wiped down...less towels per cabin...No wipes at times...Untidy public bathrooms are a few examples. On the PC cruise... lots of bleach wiping down in public areas and on the SC cruise... nothing?

There was a real difference between the two cruises and as B2Ber's we got to see and experience the Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

I now understand why the SUMMIT has been getting Good and Bad reviews. It seems the crew's behavior code echos the passengers behavior code... if you don't care...we don't either!

We still had a GREAT time but will now stick to the longer cruises in future...Better Service!!

Pat :)

I appreciate your observations but this is an example of what I am not looking for on this thread. Can we please keep reviews/observations/opinions on other threads and try to keep this thread to my original request:

We always dress to code, but on my Constellation cruise earlier this month, and on my Summit cruise last month, I saw first hand, with my own eyes, passengers who were denied entrance to the dining room on formal night, and on informal night. Once, a man and woman were wearing jeans and they were told to come back when properly dressed and another time a man was asked to leave when wearing shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt on informal night. Once, a group sitting at the same table were told they needed to dress to code on formal night when all 8 of them were in jeans, dockers and t-shirts. So, it does happen when you have a maitre'd who's vigilant.
