Football??

Our upcoming Volendam cruise requires DH to be away from home for TWO Sunday's...and his beloved Patriots!!!

We seem to recall the Zuiderdam had a sports bar on board when we sailed in May of 03. Does the Volendam have a sports bar and will they carry the Sunday games...and the Patriots???

Thankfully, the world series will be over before we sail!

The TV in the Neptune Lounge..does it carry more stations than our the TV in our suite??

If he can't watch, he'll be happy just knowing the final score, but it would be nice if he had an opportunity to see the games!!

(Funny story...Out early today because Pats at 4 PM (They Won!) and Red Sox at 8 PM (NOW!!) ... Stopped at the supermarket..and EVERYONE was out shopping! You would think it was superbowl sunday, or perhaps the night before a blizzard! Lines were 7-10 people deep at checkout and EVERY line was open with a bagger!! I'm sure by 4 PM we could have had the supermarkets to ourselves!! Bean town loves their sports!! )

So..any sports fans out here that have sailed on the Volendam and watched football at sea??

Thanks!!

I know what you mean, Peggy. I needed food at 2:30 and couldn't believe the crowd!

As far as watching the Patsies goes---I wouldn't hold out much hope while you're away. Yes, there is a sports bar, but NFL regular season games are not usually shown. Even if they were, it would take a great deal of luck for the Pat's game to be the one (I know, I know, who else would anyone want to watch?).

I'll watch the games for hubby. Is that good enough? :D

:) I was at Shaw's today and found the same thing.

It is hard to say for sure IF they will be showing football and if they are to say which game they will show. They are probably blowing the sports tv budget (those satelite downloads are pricey, I imagine) on the baseball Playoffs and now the World Series.

But, then again.....Patriots are now 21 games undefeated. Lots of people are very interested in following them this year especially as they are the Super Bowl winners from last year.

If the PATs are playing a Sunday night game on ESPN, your DH might get to see that, but our experience is that the regular season Sunday games are not available on HAL. :( We did get to watch our Broncos on a Sunday night game while on a cruise in November 2002. :)

Unfortunately I think it's highly unlikely you'll be seeing many, if any, football games on the cruise. First of all, ESPN doesn't carry every game, those rights belong to the major networks. Secondly, the version of ESPN on most of the time is the International or South American version....lots and lots of soccer. Have to admit I've never cruised during the NFL season but I did during the NCAA basketball tournament and besides not getting any of the games it was hard to even get the scores. :(

You will see some football, maybe even the game or games that you want to watch. Last year on Zaandam there were tvs set up in the explorer's lounge and the casino bar that had NFL games on Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening and Monday evening. This was the first week of January.

Carol-we were on the Amsterdam at the same time (first week of January), but those games were playoff games to determine the Super Bowl teams. Yes, HAL did carry all of those, but not any regular-season games, other than ESPN Sunday-night games. The Amstrdam also had extra chairs set up in the sports bar and had the games on in the movie theater when they did not conflict with the normal movie schedule. While the audio was all in English, all the graphics were in Spanish, as we were in the Southern Hemisphere at the time.
