Toastie Oostie?? That is new one for me.

 

Toastie -- ship hot and everyone is toasting -- where I live that means HOT!! ??

 

OR the crew "Toasts" those who don't leave tips??

 

What does it mean??

 

 

KK - I have NO idea, but was thinking of asking.... I just thought it was pretty funny, and then I thought about how many posters here don't like the ship nicknames and got a good chuckle, as most of the crew seem to use them.

 

They also post some pretty fun pictures! I saw a someone's bike tied to a smokestack (up in the air!) while a ship was in drydock... couldn't believe my eyes. :D Then wondered how in the world he was going to get it down, lol!

I hate it when someone refers to one of the ships as the "Westie" or the "Zuidie" instead in just taking the time to type out Westerdam or Zuiderdam.

 

 

I used to have a "Scottie"... I miss that little dog a lot.

Calling an Inspection of People, Customs.

 

Immigration Inspection is of people and their documents.

Customs is an Inspection of things people are carrying into the country with them.

 

 

If that is the case, why is it that when I arrive back home in Canada, I am greeted with Canada Customs officials BEFORE I get to the luggage claim area? ;)

Actually I agree completely with you; no research required. And I understood your definitions the first time - no need to repeat. :)

 

It was just that your post made me think back to the process of returning home at the end of a vacation (which frankly is my least favourite memory because it means my holiday is over :( ). Most people who have flown into Canada can probably recall that we are required to fill out a customs form before we even leave the plane. I haven't flown into any other country yet that has such a requirement. We then hand it to the official in the airport who examines it and our passports, etc. If the official sees reason, he/she might then order an inspection of luggage once it is claimed, either randomly or based on information provided on the form.

 

Fortunately for me, the only customs agents that have ever inspected my luggage have each had four legs, floppy ears and a wet nose! :D

I haven't flown into any other country yet that has such a requirement.

Returning US citizens have to fill out a Customs declaration form while still on the plane or ship.
