calenita Posted November 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2008 Do you pay the full tips for children as well? On NCL it was half of the adult fare. It seems like on RCCL it is the full tip for children as well. Thanks Debbi
Happy ks Posted November 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2008 Even when our children were 6 and 9 years old we always paid the full amount of gratuity. We've never believed the servers/cabin attendants should have to earn half as much because of our kids ages.
cruisePRN Posted November 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2008 There's only one bathroom to clean but two extra beds so it seems that children and 3rd or 4th persons in the same cabin should be prorated.
wrp96 Posted November 11, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2008 The recommended tips are the same for both adults and children on RCCL.
rclcruzer Posted November 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2008 We always have....they are in our cabin (s), they make messes too :) It's the proper thing to do. Have a wonderful cruise ;)
ckrobyn Posted November 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2008 We always tip the full amount for our 11 yr old DD. I mean lets face it, when you are travelling with kids - adults are not the one's making a mess in the cabin ;)
acwmom Posted November 11, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2008 Yes, it is the full amount, and IMHO, the extra we tipped above the recommended was for the outstanding service and attention that our then 9 and 6 year old received, especially in the MDR. My youngest still has a picture we took of the 2 boys with our waiter. The staff truly made them feel so very extra special.
cruisePRN Posted November 11, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 11, 2008 It's the proper thing to do. Why? It's RCL is the only cruise that asks it so are all the cruise lines wrong? I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it's up to each individual as to what is proper.

mary_228 Posted November 11, 2008 #13 Share Posted November 11, 2008 We've taken many cruises with our children and IMO they are much messier than the adults and as far as the cabin attendantis concerned, they make more work than the adults in the cabin! They don't, however, order as many courses as we do and often eat in the buffet instead of the dining room. Nevertheless, we tip the full amount per person (and we are not the biggest tippers in the world). If they use the kids program, we tip an additional amount to the staff. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it's up to each individual as to what is proper. Well, the cruiseline SAYS that children should tip the same as adults, thus making it officially the "proper" thing to do. not subject to further interpretation, IMO. Of course, you are welcome to cruise whatever line you choose and abide by their policies - isn't there one that lets kids sail free? Be my guest. There's another thread going now about how all the other lines allow one to bring wine onboard - again, them's the rules, take it or leave it. cruiserbryce Posted November 11, 2008 #15 Share Posted November 11, 2008 kids make just as much of a mess as the adults so yes...full tips
dcastro Posted November 11, 2008 #16 Share Posted November 11, 2008 I think tips have to be earned. If you do a great job, I'll over-tip. If you do a crappy job, I'll give you a crappy tip.
CruiseWherever Posted November 11, 2008 #17 Share Posted November 11, 2008 Kids can eat as much as adult too and use the same facilities, then why the 3th and 4th person RCCL charges less in the same room then the first two. I also think tips have to be earned, if they do a ggos job it could me more then what they are recommanded.

Someone can sail RCI, announce to anyone they want that they will not tip one cent and still be allowed to cruise. Obviously it is wrong not to tip if service was received but it is not required. I wish they would make it a requirement so that we wouldn't have to see posters discouraged from tipping the hardworking staff.

These people live for their tips. Why would this even be debated. Why even make that statement - "Someone can sail RCI, announce to anyone they want that they will not tip one cent and still be allowed to cruise". They should just add them to the cruise price & make everyone pay them.
xcell Posted November 12, 2008 #23 Share Posted November 12, 2008 they work hard whether for 2 or 4 people in the room - just tip full price...

I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it's up to each individual as to what is proper. Actually, no, other cruise lines do include children in the tipping. Disney does not allow children to opt out. Carnival automatically adds tips in for the children. Cunard charges full rate, no reduced rates for children. Those are just the last few ships that I have been dealing with. Just wanted to make the point that RCCL is not alone in this. ;)
