What not to miss on the Jewel

I want to know why people love the Jewel.

What do you look foward to while on the ship? What would be the one thing that is not to be missed?

What was your favorite meal, drink, dessert, activity, show, or restaurant?

Where is your favorite place to be on the ship? Why?

No Negatives, Please....

We are booked for next years repositioning, and we are so excited about the intinerary, now I want to get just as excited about the Jewel.

My favorite might be lots different than yours. And, some of my most negative might be your favorite.

But - on the Jewel and Pearl we loved sitting at the little bar ABOVE the pool and having a light meal. Watching people go by.

Favorite drink was a glass of wine at the casino bar.

If I read about somethings not to be missed, it will give me an idea as what to try. Yes, I will try it and make up my own mind as to whether I enjoyed it or not. You never know unless you try. As far as negatives, I just didn't want to hear things like don't go to this restaurant, service was bad, food was horrible, don't go to this club, band couldn't play, don't go to this bar, watered down drinks, etc. I only want to know what people thought was good.

I'm glad to hear that there is such a place on the Jewel. On both the Crown and Caribbean Princess, the bar above the aft pool was our favorite place to go to sit and grab a table with a light snack or dessert. Can you sit there with a snack at night also?

I never would have thought to go to the casino bar for a glass of wine! Since we both love wine, we may just try it.

Thanks for your suggestions. :D

We are also on the repo for 2009, and although we haven't been on the Jewel yet, we have sailed on the Dawn and the Pearl.

One of our favorite places on NCL ships is to go to the Spinnaker lounge during the DAY on sea days (when its empty) and just enjoy the views of the ocean.

It's hard to say what my favorite part of the Jewel was. We had such a great time and loved the whole ship and the crew was outstanding. That was our 1st cruise and now are addicted.

My favorite place was either Spinnaker at night with an apple martini or the poolside bar with a bucket of beer. Dh and I loved to just sit there and talk or people watch.

Our favorite show was Second City, we both love comedy and they were really funny.

Food is to subjective, Dh loved the prime rib at Cagneys I never had a bad meal except my pasta in Mama's was to spicy I couldnt even eat it.

Oh and you've got to have the pretzel rolls at the buffet they are to die for.

Loved the Spinikker lounge day and night. During the day time the views are lovely.

Also, all the way forward on deck 13? Looking out at the ocean. When we sailed last April there was one day that the wind was blowing so hard the deck chairs were almost flying! It was beautiful and awe-inspiring to see! Even walking forward was difficult. Of course, I am from the Pacific Northwest so I love my storms (but I love the sun too, which is why I cruise the Caribbean.)

Also loved deck 13 above the pool. You can hear the music, get a drink, and relax. Not as many people so it is like your own little piece of heaven.

AHH!

We'll be on the Pearl this March/April (spring break for us)

Good to hear that many of you like the Spinnaker lounge and the above pool bar. Sounds like great places to hang out.

Grandpaul, I didn't know they had Quest. Thanks for letting me know.

tiggerfan616, Pretzle rolls??? Does that mean loads of salt?? YUM

sotovoce, Always loved the chilled soups.

VUCruiser, I've heard good things about the Tapas Bar. Another great place to try.

lgfromdg, glad to hear they play different genres of music. Dancing also?

deckedout, I love stormy skies, but not the storms. We've sailed twice into storms, did not like the feeling.

Thanks all,:D

We'll be on the Jewel's repo next September, Dover to NY, and I was most interested in the responses as well. (BTW - which repo will you be on next year?). Thanks for starting the thread.

I love sea days and I'm looking forward to sitting and relaxing. What could be nicer than relaxing all day and then having to decide "where shall we eat dinner tonight?"

Again, thanks for starting such a great thread. From everything I've read thus far the Jewel sounds like a really lovely ship. We've been on the Pearl and the Jade - and now we're looking forward to experiencing the Jewel as well.

I don't know if you saw it...but last week one of the posters here gave us all a link to his website that was a picture tour of the ship. I think it was posted last Sunday? If you haven't seen it, give it a peek. If I can find it, I'll repost it as well. We'll be traveling next year with our friends who sailed on the Jewel in2007- Barcelona to Miami. They spent a lot of time of the Jewel but even they enjoyed the site - brought back some lovely memories.

Although I haven't been on the Jewel yet (will be nxt March) I'm looking forward to relaxing on the outside aft deck past the buffet area. We have been on the Dawn 4 times and it does not have this area but on our Hawaii cruise on the PoAm did and we really enjoyed it.

I also agree with Spinnaker both day and night. Loved this lounge on the Dawn.

Also looking forward to dinner at Cagney's. Went 3 times on our last Dawn cruise.

We like to try differnt drinks so the Martini and Margarita tastings are hits with us.

We just love being outside during the day so the upper deck with munchies and drink has always worked on our NCL cruises.

We are just off the Jewel this past Friday.......our favorites were the Blue Lagoon for breakfast AND lunch. Not a big menu, but it was all good!!!!! Favorite evening pasttime.....sitting at the Great Outdoors Bar (Aft ship on level 12). Its an outside bar.....we enjoyed just sitting there in the evenings, usually after we had just seen a show in the Theatre. We really enjoyed the bartender, can't remember her first name and her assistant, Christian....they were GREAT!!! We were lucky enough last week to have a full moon that we enjoyed coming up over Cozumel.

I love the Great Outdoors no matter which ship...it's such a wonderful spot. We had many a wonderful meal on the Jade's Great Outdoors during our recent Med cruise...leaving Naples, Civitavecchia and Livorno at night. I could have been eating chips and dip and it would have tasted like a million dollar meal.

We're going to be a little chilled on our cruise (Dover to NY via Scotland, Iceland and Canada) so I'm not sure we'll be having any cold beverages out there...but a nice cup of hot tea whilst watching the ocean and the stars is a very "warming thought.

  • 2 months later...

DH and I are going on the April 2009 repo to Uk,,, and we're sooooo looking forward to it!!

Our first transatlantic, and out first NCL.

It was a such a cheap price for veterans..... much cheaper than flying... but so much more fun!!!

We were actually looking at flight prices to the UK, but just looked out of curiosity, and found it... perfect!! just booked it last night

Thanks for the tips... and Jewel sounds like an awesome ship!!!

Another vote for pretzel rolls! LOL! We called them "pretzel butts," because that's kind of what they looked like. :D

Spinnaker is definitely a great venue for live music. The entertainment on my cruise was different from the regular schedule (it was basically a chartered music festival), but Spinnaker was one of my favorite venues... I saw four shows there, I think, which means I guess I was in there every night but the last one, which I spent in Stardust. :)

Food is so subjective, but I liked Tango's a lot. Totally worth the $10pp, if you ask me. The Spring Roll appetizer was different, and very tasty. :)

Apologies if some of these have already been mentioned:

Deck 7 (outside) - a great place to get away from the crowds and relax on the rail, which is relatively close to the waterline. Especially nice in the evenings.

Freestyle Deck - an off the beaten path spot with crow's nest-like views of the ship and surroundings without a lot of fellow passengers crowding you in. It's worth mentioning that it's also a designated naked sunbathing area.

Bridge observation room - Deck 15 port, I think. You'd never know it was there unless you looked for it. It's at the end of a hallway of state rooms. Cool historic artifacts, charts, christening memorabilia and best of all, a full view of the bridge.

Teppanyaki Room - The freshest, best prepared food on the Jewel. It's hibachi style so lots of sizzle, spit and smoke. Good fun, good show, great food.

Enjoy your cruise!

- Chocolate Brownie in Blue Lagoon

- Prime Rib (RARE) in Cagneys (neat story - I ordered a steak and asked if they could bring a bit of prime rib for me to taste and they brought a whole portion - which we ate as well)

- Champagne Brunch in Le Bistro

- anything in Teppanyaki (which literally means to cook on an iron plate, not to be confused as Hibachi-style per an earlier poster, which refers to a method of grilling food)

- LOVED sitting in the sun on the rail of Deck 12 aft (behind the Garden Cafe where the outdoor grill is) drinking cold beer and reading... saw dolphins playing in the wake on a couple of occasions

There's my dos pesos
