Tipping Wait-Staff

Recommended Posts

Usually on the cruise line's website they give you guidelines on the amounts to tip & to whom.

We usually just have the recommended amount put on our S& S card... then no worries on the last day :)

I would not give someone tips in American Express Travelers Checks. You would have to know their real name which is not necessarily the name they go by on board. If you want to bring these travelers checks with you on board just bring them to the front desk and sign them in front of the person and turn them in for cash which you could then place in the envelopes.

The RCL website said to do envelopes or the S&S card. Has anyone done envelopes with American Express traveler checks? I would like to do envelopes ahead of time, but don't want to lug alot of cash.....

Use cash. Many of those you tip don't have anywhere to cash travelers checks.

It's not a "lot of cash". On Carnival, it's 10.00 per person, per day; 70.00 per person for the week....140.00 total for 2.

If you use traveler's checks, you can always cash them onboard yourself and tip in cash.

Do NOT tip in Traveler's checks! They won't be able to cash them!!! Either pre-pay the tips on your shipboard account, or you cash the travelers checks and give CASH!!!!!

When carrying cash onboard, bring large bills ($100's)--they take up alot less space than $20's, $10's, etc.... and you can have them broken down on the ship. You can bring quite a bit of cash without alot of "bulk" by bringing large bills!
