how much for onboard account?

Recommended Posts

I am going tomorrow to pay balance on cruise and not starting to think about spending money. I really have no idea how much to take.

I will take credit card for emergency but prefer to have cash/travellers cheques to pay account.

We are 4 adults and although any " extras" will be paid by my 2 adult children themselves we have agreed to pay for all drinks. I am just totally lost

Can anyone give me and indication on what their onboard bill was? Sorry if this is a personal question lol

You really don't need cash on the ship. Only for the casino. When you set up your account you can give them a credit card to put the charges on if you like. I usually end up with a bill between $700 and $1000 for a 7 night cruise.

I usually carry 700.00 cash for a 7 day cruise in addition to my credit card. When I leave the ship, I need spending money for gifts, taxis, etc.

You might want to alert your credit card company that you will be using your card in foriegn places. This prevents a hold being put on your card in case they think it was stolen.

Our charges onboard run about 500 - 700 for a week.

thanks for reply

I want to pay the onboard bill with cash rather than credit card, I like to come home without a creditcard bill and knowing everything is paid for lol

can I ask is the $700-$1000 for 1 person ?

No, for my wife as well. I rather put the charges on my Royal Caribbean Visa card and get double points. Then just deposit the cash in the bank to pay the credit card bill.

Remember you need to pay tips either with the cash or automatic on the credit card. We do not spend that much as the other poster. WE spend very little which affords us another cruise. We earn lots of OBC using our visa card, future cruise booking and we got the advantage of the stocks with the other obc before they changed the rules. We bought the stock when it was very low so we got OBC almost as much as the stock was worth. It also doubled since we will be doing a 10 nighter on JOS. Drinks have gotten very expensive ... so figure it out how much you drink. Most drinks with the auto tax and tip run close to 8-10 a drink. So using that figure you can tell how much you need. The specialty restuarant is 25, or 30 pp extra. If you needs t shirts get them when they are 10 each. Then there are excursions. We usually book most off the ship when we do any. There is plenty of fun to be had without spending tons. Make your own budget. We have seen people amazed at their sea pass cards the last night. We happily usually cash out the obc left on the account and take money home. Then that goes for the deposit for our next cruise. Good luck!

Most drinks are between $5 and $9 plus tip. Drinks of the day are 5 without the comemoritive glass. If you want the glass they run $7 plus tip. Special coffes are $7 to $9. The prices are like a nice resurant in a medium to large size city. Set a budget, you are in control.

There's alot of factors to consider to determine how much you'll spend. Drinks, Onboard purchases, excursions. There's alot of extras that can add up. We usually end up spending from $1,400 - $1,800 for the 2 of us for a 7 night cruise.

If you're buying drinks for 4 adults, bring more money than you think you'll need! Or, be prepared to use the credit card!

Most folks will spend about 1/2 of the total cost of the fare in "misc." expenses.

it depends on how much you want to live it up on the cruise. on our first cruise, my husband and i spent about 2000 for a 7 day cruise. we learned our lesson after that. and, our last 7 nighter on liberty was about 1200 for the two of us. that's excursions, alcohol, specialty restaurants (chops and portofino's once each) and some gambling (not more than 100). so, not so bad. we learned not to buy the pictures as they get pricey fast. also, you don't need 10 shirts that say royal caribbean. we pre pay our gratuities, so that's included in the above figure and we try to be discerning when picking out excursions. i.e. we won't spend 120 each on a dolphin swim more than once. we like snorkeling and that's usually pretty cheap.

Bingo and pictures:eek: Yikes. now that we have stopped both those purchases we are at about $800.00 to $1,000.00 for the two of us on a 7 day. I pay for excursions in advance or cash with a private tour.

AGREED! i forgot to mention that bingo is a total ripoff. one guy wins and everyone else pays 100 bucks for the big pack of cards. we will never play bingo again! we like the slots though, at least we get some enjoyment out of that.

We usually have 400 or so in OBC's, and we are not drinkers, so that lasts us for the week. Off the boat we figure 100 a day. We always bring a sizable chunk home with us, but we would rather have it and bring it home, then not have it and need it.

For a part of two we also spend about $100 per day for drinks, tips no shore excursions. I agree with what someone else had posted I would put the cash on my credit card prior to leaving rather than carry that much with me and pay cash onboard. Besides getting points if that is the case if there is any dispute it is easier if you have paid by credit card.

Keep in mind too that you can check your balance as you go along on the TV systems and make adjustments to how much living it up you are doing if it's getting out of hand....

If you have pre-paid your tips, don't drink, don't buy in the onboard shops or photos and don't do excusions you do not need to spend anything. It is up to you. Only you know the sort of things you like to spend your money on.

It looks like we are about average. We spend about $1000 a week. We have a bottle of wine with dinner and probably 1 or 2 drinks during the evening. We usually eat one night in the speciality restaurant.
