Are you hungry at 6pm?

I've always booked the late dinner, but this time I've booked the early seating, as DH says he went to bed too full after eating so late.

I'm not even hungry at 6pm. Last cruise, we didn't get to breakfast until 10-10:30, had lunch at about 1:30ish. So come dinner at 8:15 I was ready to eat.

It is annoying that I missed out on a lot of bingo and karaoke due to the late seating.

But there we nights when we ordered room service before dinner to ward off hunger.

Just curious. Who eats at 6 on the ship? What time do you eat breakfast and lunch?

I prefer the late dining myself and a later breakfast. Lunch most of the time is room service around 3pm.

Ahhhh, yes we are hungry, we eat by then at home too. Not sure why you wouldnt be hungry, but we eat breakfast 9 am or earlier and have lunch around Noon, so by 6 pm if I didnt have early dinner, Id be snacking (like you said you are before late dinner).

I found late dinner, I snacked so much before dinner, then I wasnt hungry for dinner. I didnt like going to bed so full either.

My parents always have 6PM dinner. They breakfast around 8 or so (usually in the dining room) and then lunch around 12/12:30 at Lido. They are always hungry by dinner time.

We have late seating since we never eat until around 8PM at home anyway, it keeps us closer to our usual routine.

I would think your personal routine may make the choice for which sitting is a better "fit".

we did late seating on our first cruise and found out that my little brothers who were in circle c were missing out on a lot of activities because of it. That and we're all kindof slow eaters. We were always one of the last out of the dining room. We also couldn't seem to want to make it to any shows because as you mentioned we were so full!

On our cruise in November we have the early seating. I'm hoping that will balance things out a little bit as far as activities go on the ship. Plus we're active while on board, so we can work up an apetite no problem!

Have fun! Do what works best for you and if after the first night see if the Man in Charge can switch you to the late seating again.

Same with us-- we tried late seating once and still felt stuffed at midnight.

We also have always had late seating but next month we are on the Pride and have signed up for early seating. One reason we did late was so that we did not have to rush back from a port just to eat. On this trip we are out of each port by 5:00. I figure that we will just eat lunch earlier or skip some of the mid afternoon pizza and burgers.

My husband works nights so we have to eat dinner at home around 5 o'clock. So we are always hungry by 6. We have late for the first time in October because the Destiny has such weird times in port. I am hesitant that we will like it but we will see. I think alot has to do with your normal habits at home. Our kids eat at college during the week and don't eat until about 8 every night but when they come home on the weekends they have a hard time with our early dinner. Cindy

breakfast at about 7:30.........lunch about 12;30 and ready for dinner at 6pm...........
Ditto.

The restaurant doors open for breakfast at 0730 hrs.

We're among the first thru them.

What I found amusing was what she said

about ordering room service early

to ward off hunger until Dinner at 8. :D

I agree with that, but the ship schedule also has some influence in my decision. I am booked on the 10/4 sailing of the Victory. Most port days, the ship sails at 5:00. I figured that after a day of excursions, snorkeling and beach, and having to be back on the ship at 4:00 or so, we would be ready for dinner at 6:00. The 8:00 seating would be way to late for me on this trip.

I also like the idea of being finished with dinner by 7:30 or so and having time to enjoy the shows or casino and still get to bed by a resonable time so we're not wiped out the next day.

DH & I always eat dinner early on the ship, even on NCL with its Freestyle dining.

We normally wake up around 6 a.m., same time as when we are at home, and have coffee and Danish delivered to our cabin via room service, as we get dressed for the day.

We head to the dining room for breakfast by 7:30 a.m. and eat lunch in the dining room by noon. We're ready for evening dinner by 6 p.m. as long as we don't snack too much in the afternoon.

We learned early on in our cruising days to stay away from the buffets as much as possible as we tend to pack too much food in at a meal there. The only time we are in the buffet at meal time is on port days when we need a sandwich or something else light to hold us over until dinner.

I agree. I think I've had breakfast or lunch in the MDR once. I think I'll talk my husband into going to the dining room more often this trip.

Major factors..yes!

By the time we crash around 10:30

Dinner is 3-4 hrs. behind us, and isn't just sitting there like a big lump of...

Not good to sleep with a full stomach.

Nope not hungry at 6pm due to eating pizza at 4pm and then going to late dinner. We eat breakfast around 8-9 unless it is a port day, then earlier. We generally eat lunch around 1pm and grab the pizza slice to split around 4. We like late dinner so we don't have to cut our time short in port.

I think if we went just as H & W we would do the late seating. HOWEVER, we always have our nine year old daughter ( on Wednesday) who can't wait till 8:15, thus we use the early.

Breakfast is roughly between 8:45 - 9:30, and we hit the pool. Lunch can be anywhere between noon, & 1:30, and sometimes we will eat the dogs, burgers, and pizza without even hitting the buffett or lunch dining room. Sometimes we are NOT starving at the early seating but we will never pass it up, and just maybe eat the shrimp cocktail, and salad.

Try the early seating this time, then you get to see the shows at the early times, bingo, and the casino. Then make a decision for you, best for you, but give it a shot.

I usually find my 'eating' times quite delayed while on a cruise - after all you are on vacation!!!

Obviously if it is an early port day I have room service breakfast pretty early. On a sea day I will try and have breakfast in the main dining room provided I am up early enuf - otherwise I grab something from the buffet ( 9-10 am?). Lunch may be in port or on ship depending on excursion timing?

When we get back to the ship I am happy to relax, have a snack (pizza?) watch sailaway, maybe nap? plan my evening - no way do I want to be rushing into the shower, then get dressed, hair, makeup - all for 6 pm - too rushed for me!

If I am still hungry before dinner I will have something from room service or sushi but cant' say I have ever been starved on a cruise :)

Yes dinner ends around 10 pm - but I do go see the shows, visit the casino, listen to some music and probably not in bed til 12:30 or 1 am!!!

I agree with you, but just don't want to give up port time. We try to stay up later and dance ect to let the dinner digest. But I have been so exhausted on occasions in the past that I have gone to bed within 1-2 hours of dinner...not good for my weight maintaining:eek:

We prefer early seating, but I'm considering switching to anytime dining for our 4 day cruise, just to see how we like it. I'm always hungry at 6 PM - I think when I get on the ship my stomach goes into "cruise mode" and I'm hungry for the entire trip, lol. The time we had 8 PM dinner I was hungry and bored until 8, then felt we were missing out on things going on around the ship while we ate dinner. For us, 6 just works out a lot better if we have to choose a dinner seating.
