When is Spring Break 2010?

There is no one answer to this question a each university and each school district sets its own date for spring break. I would say the week around

March 15 may be the most common, but spring break "season" runs throughout March and April. Before I retired, I was an administrator at a large university. We once participated in a survey about spring break dates. As I remember the weekend closest to March 15 was the most common start time unless Easter conflicted.

It's my understanding that many schools in the northeast have the week around Presidents' Day (3rd week in Feb.) off. It's safe to say that there will be students on a break (winter break, spring break, Easter break, and a number of other names) from Feb 15 to Apr. 15.:)

Thank you for the quick replies!

We are currently looking at the 21-day circle Hawaii on the Zaandam leaving San Diego on April 6 and since the last six days of that cruise are sold as a separate one that got us slightly worried....(That is assuming Spring Breakers don't actually take longer cruises)

But as I understand we should be "safe" ...

Spring break for my daughter's Catholic parochial school in the Seattle area is the week of April 5-9 2010, as Easter Sunday falls on April 4. I think the above posts by Texas Tillie and HWH pretty much sum up the picture. It really does depend on whether we're talking about college (university) students or primary and secondary schools, what regions, what school districts, and whether the school is private or public. The USA is a mish-mash of school systems, all with varying calendars. Taxmantoo, that's a good site to bookmark, thanks.

Medusa, as you are leaving on April 6, on a longer itinerary, on one of HAL's non-Vista and non-Signature ships (at the present time those would include Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam, Noordam, and Eurodam), you don't need to worry. You really wouldn't need to worry in any case. We're talking HAL, not Disney:)

Thank you for the link to the number of college students on Spring break. DH and I went on Diamond Princess 7 day cruise mid March 2007. The pools and whirpools were filled with a lot of college students having a great time. On Grand class ships there is an adults pool only far forward one deck up from the lido deck and it has stadium seating around it which protects it from easy access, so most of the college pax didn't hang out there.

Mid March 2001, my sister and I went on a 12 day cruise to Hawaii and there were hardly any college students on board.

Mid March 2000, several members of my family cruised for 11 days which included going through the Panama Canal. On this cruise I don't remember any college students, but we did have a group of 250 pax from Sun City.

They didn't bring any formal clothes with them, so on formal nights the ladies made do with their best knit tops with casual jewelry and then men wore collared shirts to dinner. Each night we would take pics at our table and in the background you can see the knit tops and polo shirts.

I wondered if they while they were at Sun City, they decided to go on this cruise. Possibly they didn't have any formal clothes with them. Anyway even though it was spring break season, not many college students.

From my experience there won't be many college students on the majority of your cruise.

However, you should check into that 6 day portion. That way you will not have to wonder about it. Call your TA. If indeed that portion can be booked separately, there will be more college students.

Can anybody tell me when Spring Break will be in 2010?

I'm not familiar with the American holiday system, but understand it differs per state?

Any info is much appreciated.....

I cannot find the link I found when researching this subject for our cruise to the Caribbean in February 2010. However, we'd originally booked for ms Westerdam 21 February on a B2B, UNTIL we discovered that not only were many of the US Colleges going to be on Spring Break at that time, but younger children were also going to be on vacation for Presidents' Day (now celebrated by a full week, or so it seems.)

Spring Break OFFICIALLY begins on Monday 15 February 2010 and ends OFFICIALLY on Friday March 12 2010.

So we are now booked for 7 February and debarking on 21 February 2010.

Only problem with that booking is we have to contend with hotel and air because of Super Bowl Sunday, 8 February 2010 in Miami. Oh well, gotta suffer 1 night for a wonderful cruise:)

We were on the Westerdam last February 7th and luckily not many kids at all. I think other lines, i.e., RCCL and Carnival draw the kids -- at least I hope so. We normally try to avoid February but now with home schooling, anything goes.

Kids and Super Bowl....I don't know which is worse. (Yes, we have 5 grands, but they're mine.)

As the mother of homeschooled kids - it's my favorite part! I LOVE getting to go places when most of the other kids are in school. Disney is the best for this type of travel but a good cruise is a close second!

This calendar displays how many schools and students are on "spring break" for every week from February to April.

Thanks much, this site is the best information ever. Looks like the early part of April will be the low point in Spring Breakers! I am past that " Party" time in my life. :)

If you don't like senior citizens that is your loss. We're a lot smarter than you and have had a lot more experiences than you and have assured that you continue to enjoy the freedoms that you have.

Kids in the Northeast have always had a week off at Presidents' Day.

That's really a "winter break."

Then spring breaks for schools in other parts of the country begin in March. Colleges also have spring break in March.

The New England kiddies get their spring break in April, right around Patriots Day.

So it's safe to say that someone is on vacation between mid-February and late April.

I had that week off when I was in school ... and that was ages ago! :)

The USA is the only country I know of that disrespects their senior citizens in such a brazen way exemplified by the various posts I have read about HAL being the cruise line to avoid because of the elderly demographic of the passenger list. The only thing that comforts me about that is no matter how hard the young try to avoid getting older, age will engulf them either sooner or later.:D

Sun City is a retirement community in the Phoenix area, not a vacation destination. The homeowners who live there like to drive golf carts instead of cars around the community....quite cute. :)
