Alaska05 Posted August 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2016 We will be using the Princess transfers for the first time this October and I wanted to make sure I understand the process once we land. We will be landing at LaGuardia airport. I assume we collect our luggage and meet a Princess rep at a designated area and they will handle getting our luggage to the ship. If so, I was going to wait til we land before putting our Princess luggage tags on. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my assumptions. Thanks. You are correct Once you land, you'll collect your bags and meet the Princess rep, who should be in or near the badge area and have a Princess sign. They'll check your name off, show you where to put your bags to await the transfer and they'll get your baggage on the bus or shuttle and then into your room. You can keep your hand baggage with you. We always put our cruise luggage tags in upon arrival at the destination airport so there is no chance of them coming off by the airline baggage handlers, etc. The Princess rep will also have extra blank tags if needed to put on also. It's very easy and convenient. Enjoy!

You are correct you will collect your luggage and then meet the Princess Rep. It would be best to put your Princess luggage tags on BEFORE (and an additional one inside) you check your bags just in case your luggage gets lost and it could be delivered to you at the next port. If no forwarding tags it will sit at LaGuardia for the week. ;)

LeeW Posted August 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2016 The transfer folks will be in the baggage area and carrying a Princess sign. Generally you pick up your luggage and haul it over to where they have you go. By then the tags should be on. I have seen a couple of cases with late flights where the transfer folks pull Princess-tagged luggage off the belt (they know which flight you are on) so it is ready when the passengers get to the luggage area. If you are an early flight you might have to wait a while for other flights to get in so they can fill a bus.
Colo Cruiser Posted August 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2016 We were always ones to swear by putting the tags on at the port city airport. However we started putting them on before we left home a couple of years ago. We had an incident where the bags did not make it on our flight. They arrived on a later flight were sent to the ship before we sailed. I think it helps to have them on before leaving home. I imagine they would have made it to the ship regardless but i feel better having them on for the entire flight. IMO
Pam in CA Posted August 15, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 15, 2016 Unless I have a pre-cruise hotel stay, I put luggage tags on my bag before leaving home. I put two tags on: one on the top and one on the side.
NavyVeteran Posted August 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 15, 2016 If I am going directly to the ship on a Princess transfer, I put the Princess luggage tags on before checking them in for the flight for the reasons mentioned earlier - it makes it easier for the airline to get the bags to Princess in case of delays. I also print out and carry with me a couple of extra Princess luggage tags. If they were removed in flight, I just put the new ones on at the airport. We put our Princess tags upon airline checkin and also write the Princess cruise details on our luggage name tags.

Alaska05 Posted August 16, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks everyone. I've decided to put the tags on before leaving home and one inside luggage just to cover all my bases.
greenie082756 Posted August 16, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 16, 2016 We put ours on before the departure from home. For all the reasons listed above. The last time we did this in LA, I think they saw the Princess tags and pulled our luggage off the luggage turnabout and waited for us to claim our bags. The Princess rep called out our names, escorted us to the bus and then the luggage went under the bus except for our carry-on's. Easy Peasy!:D It is a good idea to put the tags on before departing IMHO. Not had a problem yet :).
indexcards Posted August 16, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Once properly tagged and delivered to the Princess rep in baggage claim do we need to do anything else with them or will they be delivered to our cabin? (will be FLL)
Colo Cruiser Posted August 16, 2016 #15 Share Posted August 16, 2016 (edited) Once properly tagged and delivered to the Princess rep in baggage claim do we need to do anything else with them or will they be delivered to our cabin? (will be FLL) You will carry them outside to the transfer and the driver will load them under the coach. Or as we experienced in Houston that they took them in baggage claim and out a side door to a waiting truck, then we boarded the coach. Next time we saw them they were delivered to our cabin. If you don't have a transfer you will take them to the port yourself. Edited August 16, 2016 by Colo Cruiser

Just wheel right into baggage claim area and find your rep. She'll check your name off the list and then just follow her instructions. If there are a lot of baggage areas, you might want to go to the area with an incoming flight. They usually wear navy blue with a white blouse and carry a white binder or clipboard that has the Princess logo on it. Good luck!
