Does HAL offer Land Tour & Cruise Combinations...like Princess?

New to HAL.

I'm looking for longer different itineraries and also the possibility of combining a Land Tour Option with a Cruise.

Does HAL offer the Combo Land/Cruise option?

How to find them on the HAL website.

(On Princess' website they have a separate tab to click to get to the Combo Land/Cruise Options....separate from the Cruise Only Options.

Thank You in advance for any info you can share with me.

HAL's website is not especially intuitive when it comes to finding them. Click on the "Plan" tab, then the "Advanced Search" tab. Select your destination (Alaska) then date. You'll see where you can check boxes to show the region you want.

There is a great 14-day Alaska cruise itinerary that visits all major ports; but there is apparently no land portion that connects with that.

Good luck.

When you go to the HAL website select the PLAN tab. Choose Alaska as your destination and you will be given options to refine your search. If you look under Region you will see Land and Sea options as well as Cruise options.

It's been a while for us, but we did a 12 day package where we started in Fairbanks, took the train to Denali, then continued by train to Anchorage before boarding a 7 day Seward - Vancouver cruise. On a more recent 7 day round trip out of Vancouver, there was a group that got off in Skagway to continue on land, while another group who had been on a land tour boarded to continue with us. A great sampling of what Alaska had to offer. Lots of options regarding where on land you visit, and number of days on each segment.

Happy planning!:D

Ahh. Jim beat me to it. We are heading out on the 14 day trip he mentioned in 35 days!!!

Log on the HAL site, Select Plan a Cruise, next select Alaska, then the Month, finally select 9-16 days. It will bring up several choices, some Cruise first, some Land first!

As before I am not aware of any other itineraries where they offer Land and Cruise.

Good luck.

Well now you have plenty of choices!

They have some land & cruise tours that start in Anchorage and go into the Yukon and then boarding the ship in Skagway . They also have the reverse from Vancouver .

All land & cruise combinations either start or end in Vancouver.

I was hoping for an Australia Land Option to Ayers Rock & Alice Springs to go along with the 40 day cruise I'm looking at booking. Thank You all for the great advice for the Alaska Land/Cruise Combo. :)

You could book a cruise and also independently book a land cruise before and/or after the cruise. This would give you what you want w/o being stuck with the limited offerings from the cruise line. Just takes a bit of planning on your part.

Seems like an obvious solution to me.

Yes...that seems like the only solution if I go with HAL. I'm now a widow so I'm looking for the easiest and safest way to do this. Travelling solo is all so new and different.

My wife and I have taken several escorted land trips. It seems to us that most of them have be more than 50% older single women. You will not be alone.

Usually HAL offers a pre/post cruise land extension. I found this on the website that might interest you (I chose Sydney as the embarkation/disembarkation point): http://www.hollandamerica.com/cruise-destinations/Packages.action?WT.ac=pnav_Dest_Link_Packages# Sorry, that didn't quite work the way I intended but it gets you to the point indicated below. Just fill out the boxes and then click on tour packages. There is a six day tour to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock among some other places.

On the HAL website, click Destinations and then select Hotels & Tour Packages. They're not cheap but are usually very good.

On the HAL website click on Destinations and then select Hotel & Tour Packages. There you can select where you want to cruise (Australia has a tab) and which port you will leave from. It shows pre and post cruise hotel and also tour packages. I saw a 3 day trip to Blue Mountains and a 5 day trip to Cairns and other locations. Check it out.

We were looking for a cruise/land tour in Asia (China) and only Princess offered it. We have been looking at it, but it is quite expensive and since we have no reason (yet) to switch to any other line than HAL, we decided to go ahead and try to book a separate tour in China, before we board a Holland America Cruise out of Hong Kong.
