  1. Well i guess you can't open your IV window then It is only an issue if you lave either one open and then open your cabin door. Thats what Ive been told
  2. It's basically an extension of your room, with a power window. So its a glass wall that opens...not a true balcony. Some here love them, i personally do not. Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy your cruise!! Cheers
  3. She's a stunning ship, You will have an awesome oceanview cabin! I prefer the s class with a real balcony. We did just get off the Ascent a few weeks ago, and like I said she is beautiful, just not a fan of the IV. We had limited choices when we booked, ending up on the 12th floor just under the pool deck....was very noisy. You should be fine. Enjoy!
  4. we did the Solstice in Alaska earlier this year, with our daughter and Granddaughter. We had adjoining sunset verandas. It was one of our best cruises to date. The ship is older for sure, but the service and food was excellent on all counts from the main dining room to the specialties. Be sure to look for the specialty lunch in Tuscan! it was over the top delicious i would not hesitate to sail on her again..
  5. If by chance your app shows no availability...don't sweat it. Honestly I've never been able to get any decent times. I just head to one of the specialty restaurants when we board, and book them all then. I always get my desired dates/ times .May I'm just lucky? Enjoy!
  6. If available, use luggage valet!, It's worth it for an afternoon flight
  7. Personally, I would in a heart beat. They usually book out fast. But that is me.
  8. Honestly i could not book an IV cabin for a transatlantic, have sailed a few, all on S class AQ cabins with a real balconies. Looks like I'm in the minority here.Again, just another opinion. Either way a TA is an nice cruise regardless!! Enjoy
  9. I have to say the chairs are comfortable for maybe 1/2 cup of coffee....that's it. Try sitting there for a few hours reading a book.I did. No thank you. Just my 2 cents worth. cheers
  10. Exactly the same reason we hate them, not dislike, hate them emphatically!! And yes we just got off the Ascent and have actually sailed in one of these lovely cabins.
  11. Actually the room steward puts the shade down when he turns down the bed for the evening. You always have the option to tell him otherwise or just open it yourself. Like i said, it doesn't work for us,but i guess it does for a lot of people, as the ships are sailing full these days
  12. they are not very comfortable for any length of time. A quick cup of coffee perhaps that's it.
  13. Just off the Ascent last week, the only reason I was on this ship as it was gifted sort of (Blue chip comp). My wife was excited to try something new, as we usually sail Aq on S class. Although the ship was beautiful, service was excellent, that room with the Infinite veranda was a huge disappointment Not just for the window(that's all it is), creaky sagging bathroom floor, loud banging in the ceiling, and even the veranda creaking in the night on calm seas. I definitely couldn't see myself on a TA on this class of ship. Point being, you really have to try it , and decide for yourself. It was a one and done for us Cheers
  14. it is a definite NO!! We are huge balcony fans. If one wants to sneak out to the "infinite veranda" while somebody is trying to sleep.....virtually impossible to do without disturbing the person sleeping. First the slow noisy shade has to raise. Then you have to maneuver the furniture so as to close those noisy bi folds, then stand there holding the button to open the window, which is also slow and noisy. We just recently got off the Ascent, beautiful ship....a one and done for us. Give me a real balcony any day! Cheers
  15. We were on the Ascent, and prefer early dining. On the second night we found out if you had a reservation for 5:30this was in Tuscan) they preferred you to just bypass the line ( there was always a line) and go directly to your assigned table. Many people had issues with this, but the Maitre de would insist and wave people around the line, which I thought worked well. This was the first cruise we had ever made appointments for dining, except for the specialties
  16. glad they switched out cabins, as we were not that lucky. Please come back and report any further issues.
  17. I couldn't agree more....very happy OP is having an awesome trip! I had the same experience in Alaska on the Solstice...everything was amazing, but there were others on previous sailings who did not have such luck. We just got off the Ascent.....Beautiful ship, amazing staff, service all around amazing. The room....not so much. Aside form a noisy room, as many others have already complained about, the "infinite veranda was a huge disappointment. Food was for the most part bland , with limited menu rotations.
  18. We had a similar noise in our cabin, room#12185, Just off the Ascent, very annoying. Full ship, no options.Being on the 12th floor, we figured there may be some residual noise due to the fact that we were just under pool deck.It was a Blue chip comp room and very little choice when booking. It's a one and done for E class. Looking forward to our next S class cruise with a real balcony!
  19. Interesting, We found the buffet to have a decent amount of choices, and the food quality was decent as well. Unfortunately on a ship this size, it was seriously over crowded in my opinion , drink service was dismal. We opted for Raw on 5 for most lunches, as I enjoyed the raw oysters!!
  20. We usually sail Aq and love Blu. How was the food there???? unfortunately AQ was sold out when we booked so we were in Concierge.
  21. We were also there on the first night. I must say service was really good. It was the steak that was sub par and poorly cooked
  22. yes but location can make or break your trip!
  23. Agreed the "infinite Veranda" is a deal breaker. Once and done for me.
  24. Just got off the Ascent. Do not pay attention to the app. It may show no availability, but trust me ...there will be. As stated earlier, just stop at any station upon boarding...of ANY restaurant, including the main dining rooms, and they will be more than happy to help. Had no trouble getting times I wanted, even later in the cruise when i had to change a few dates and times Personally I would skip Fine cut, had a terrible steak there, the Rooftop was much better ( FYI , I had the dry aged ribeye @ Fine Cut for a $60 up charge)
