  1. What is meant by "reasonbly priced" as it does not necessarily mean cheap? Do your friends have a budget?
  2. Thanks Mic. Next pic. Country I am in will do. (because I can't remember the place)
  3. Had Golden Slumbers last night. Got to sleep ok without help from Dr. Robert.😉 My BF and I have a plan. Parking or access to McDonald Stadium will, most likely, be horrendous. So we will be going to West Leagues club for dinner (BF is a member) a little before 6. After dinner we will leave the car in West's parking station and walk to the stadium - less than 15 minutes. Should be at the stadium about 7, show starts at 7.30.
  4. It's a long way for a rental company to go. I'm not surprised. Earlier this year I tried to find a rental company in Darwin that would meet us with a car at the ship. The carpark is right next to the dock and only a about a kilometer from the rental company office but no luck. I had successfully done it once before but, no more. Had a long uphill hike to pick it up. Looks like it's the shuttle for you.
  5. Have rarely come across any braggers. I would think you are in the majority. People who have worked hard and been careful with their money and know the value of a dollar. Nothing wrong with modesty. My late wife and I were well travelled in our own country while our kids were in school. No designer clothes, no new car every year or three, built a comfortable home. Took our kids camping during school vacations. Like you, we lived a modest lifestyle.
  6. Only one sleep to go 'till I see Sir Paul (along with a few thousand others).
  7. Here was me just thinking it was an autocorrect spell check thingy.🙃
  8. Or smallest draw bridge in the world. (I looked it up)😉
  9. Do not allow guilt to override your feeling of what is right. I'm sure that many feel guilt if they don't tip even if it's taken care of in the price you pay for the cruise.
  10. IMO, reducing the auto grat amount to pay cash to a few face to face service staff is reducing the pool amount that is shared among the behind the scenes staff. Please don't do it. When I am cruising with auto grats I pre-pay and the staff know this. I don't pay any cash tips because the reward for excellent service is their job. And, if I come across those who appear to be going the extra mile, I make sure I mention it in the post cruise survey. Dining tables usually have the names of waiters and assistant waiters on them so I take a photo to help me remember.
  11. Yes, it was not a "no", it was a question hence "?".
  12. Hire means rental to some. Tauranga is the nearest port, about 2 hours from Waitomo. Waitomo is about 2.5 hours from Auckland. Google Tauranga for rental cars.
  13. I have a photo somewhere, of the Opera House, that I snapped in 1973. I still haven't been inside it even though I have been to Squidley umpteen times. One day, perhaps.
  14. There are a couple of ways to see the glow worms. One is a nice little boatride and for the more adventurous there is Black Water rafting. I have done both and the rafting is way better, however, it is dependent, to a degree, on a reasonable level of fitness. Not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. I have done the rafting twice now, the last time was in 2020 at age 72 and my BF was 70. It was really a relaxing ride floating through the caves staring up at the glow worms. We did it as part of a self drive tour prior to boarding Maasdam in Auckland. https://www.waitomo.com/black-water-rafting/legendary-black-water-rafting-co-black-labyrinth
  15. Aware of that. Yukon added another Province to my Geocaching score. It took my score to 3 provinces and also added few more finds in Alaska to now 38 of a total 67 finds in 9 US states.
  16. My understanding is that corkage has nothing to do with the alcohol, it's to do with the provision of wine glasses and serving by waiters etc.. A carry over from restaurant practise. Non alcoholic drinks such as soda and water for example have to be in cans nowadays? Corkage on cruises is, IMO, is a penalty for not buying the ship wine.
