  1. The app has a chat feature (it's like texting). You can text back and forth once you are both signed into the ship's Wi-Fi. You may have to add him (there is a "+" symbol to add recipients) when you first hit the chat button on the top right. To add him, you can enter his name and stateroom number or scan his QR code that's on his card or on his app. He has to accept your request. You can put your phone in airplane mode then turn on Wi-Fi. Once added, just tap on his name and text like you normally would. He'll get the text a few seconds after you send it.

  5. I agree with the above. They never asked for anything beyond that on my most recent Port Canaveral sailing. Even the employee made a comment that NCL is much more strict than MSC at check-in. I had the paper and everything filled out just in case but nothing more than the code (QR/bar) was needed.
  6. For a long time, MSC treated wheelchair accessible staterooms the same as other staterooms. Anyone could book one even if by accident. Currently, a box must be checked before the wheelchair accessible staterooms are shown as available. I appreciate that you're being considerate. Many people (unfortunately) are not and just want to book a larger stateroom for the same price as standard. The wheelchair accessible staterooms are usually booked early since the people who need them know that there are a limited number of staterooms that would work for them. Since your booking is sailing in a few months, MSC might figure that no one who needs that stateroom will book this close to sailing. It is entirely possible that someone who needs it could end up in that stateroom which would mean that you would be moved. I suggest going over the deck plans and finding other staterooms that would fit your preferences and hope that the agent can move you there. If not, you might end up staying in the accessible stateroom. Your request is pretty much the opposite of what many people look for in a balcony stateroom. You didn't mention which ship but if it is one of the newer builds, looking straight down to the water is intentionally not as common as it used to be.
  7. Your check-in time on the paper is pretty much irrelevant. Show up at the time that you had planned. You'll deal with your paperwork and actually board the ship when your group is called. There's no guarantee as far as when you'll board. On my last cruise out of Port Canaveral, Yacht Club boarding began at 12:08 followed by wheelchair assist, then Aurea/VC priority. If you're one who checks-in early, you'll wait but you'll board before those who check-in at 4pm.
  8. Meraviglia wasn't my favorite MSC Yacht Club ship but I did enjoy it more than I thought that I would. With the weather this time of year, I would easily prefer Joy/Encore since the Haven courtyard can be enclosed to enjoy the pool. Meraviglia's Yacht Club sundeck doesn't have a retractable roof so cold temperatures and wind make using the Yacht Club pool a no go. The Top Sail Lounge on Meraviglia is a bit more formal and not as bright as the Horizon Lounge on Joy/Encore but both offer great views, drinks, and snacks. Sundeck probably favors Meraviglia since the grill and bar are right there. For NCL Haven, the sundeck is "adults-only" (16 and up) so that could be a factor depending on your preference. Stateroom choice depends on what you are comparing. I had the Royal Suite on Meraviglia and was happy with the space and the hot-tub on the balcony. NCL's best suite on Joy/Encore is much larger (more bedrooms and more bathrooms) and has a better/larger balcony space although it doesn't have a hot-tub....might be a good thing considering what is happening with Prima/Viva... NCL has more/better stateroom choices so even if not in the top DOS, the staterooms in the Haven have better options than those in the Yacht Club on Meraviglia. In my opinion, butler service is better in the Yacht Club while concierge service is better in the Haven. You will probably enjoy both lines as long as you are aware that the two lines do things differently even though, in concept, the Haven and the Yacht Club are mostly similar.
  9. Much of the entertainment is meant for an international/multi-ethnic audience. It's usually more physical than verbal. The "theme" of the shows can differ but a lot of what you see is to be appreciated acrobatically instead of for a comprehensive storyline. Some stuff is just weird but the shows aren't long.
  10. Yes. Going a la carte is actually less complicated. The plan has restrictions unless you want to pay extra for certain items (at a discount).
  11. Some people purchase OBC ahead of time and the OBC is used towards the Hotel Service Charge. Even OBC given by MSC for booking early or by promo can be used for the service charge.
  12. What generally happens is that a person might initially be able to do it (especially if a travel agent is involved) but at some point, the system will catch the attempt. NCL will give the option to cancel one of the 2 bookings. Either the Haven 3/4 will be removed or the non-Haven 1/2 will be cancelled. Unfortunately, if the double-booking is caught after final payment, the cancellation penalty will still apply. Looking at it from another point of view, if it was easy to do, more people would do it. The cost for Haven guests 3-6 is miniscule compared to the cost of 1&2 in the same suite. Someone booked in an interior or ocean view stateroom would gladly pay a small fee to "add" Haven benefits by being guest 3-6 (on paper) in a friend's suite. The additional guests could enjoy everything Haven but could disappear at night to sleep in their own stateroom outside of the Haven. If people want the Haven, they should book the Haven. If people want to take a chance at bidding, book something else and hope to win the Haven via bid or upgrade. If people want the Haven while booked in a non-Haven stateroom and hope to leech off of an actual Haven guest, they shouldn't.
  13. I've never sailed in the Yacht Club while outside of the Yacht Club complex but I have sailed on a few occasions in the Haven while outside of the Haven complex. In fact, my preferred location outside of the Haven complex is on the complete opposite end of the ship while on the Breakaway/Breakaway Plus class (aft-facing suites). I considered the Duplex Suites on Meraviglia once those became Yacht Club suites (they were originally Aurea) but that was when I had the Royal Suite already booked. The 2nd bathroom was tempting but in the end, we stayed in the RS and I'm glad that I did. If the choices are Duplex or Deluxe, I'd go Duplex all the way. I understand that the location (deck 9) may make you feel like an outsider (*gasp*, "interloper") but there shouldn't be a need to feel that way. A quick shot up to 18 and you can enter on the the same deck as the Deluxe that you are considering. Getting to the sundeck is a small jump up from there. If there are any available, there are also Duplexes on deck 12 to feel a little bit closer to the enclave. You'll have a hot-tub on the balcony with the Duplex that you won't have on the Deluxe balcony. For World America, I booked my first ever Duplex because I wasn't happy with the balcony on the Royal Suites. The Duplex balcony isn't great but the upper balcony on that ship was the difference. For Euribia, I'd put the Royal Suite first then the Duplex. The Royal Suite balcony on Euribia is larger than the Royal Suite balcony on Meraviglia so the gap between Royal and Duplex is larger than for what I was considering. The gap between Duplex and Deluxe is the same for either class but for me, it would be an easy choice......take the Duplex and get in a few extra steps before entering the Top Sail Lounge/restaurant/sundeck of the Yacht Club.
  14. There are pads for the loungers BUT if they get wet, the crew will take them away...for some period of time. On my most recent Seashore cruise, the pads got wet and were rarely seen again. In dry weather, I know where they are stored so if the weather is good and has been good, getting padded loungers can happen.
  15. It can be done but is a burden to the Haven restaurant staff. If it must be done and you don't want to involve your butler, let the restaurant know in advance.
  16. Can it happen? Yes. Are requests usually denied? Yes. For a long time, it was fairly standard that Haven guests could invite a non-Haven guest for up to 2 meals for a charge of roughly $35-$45 dollars (depending on number of guests). NCL also flirted with the idea of allowing anyone (even those who didn't know anyone in the Haven) to dine in the Haven restaurant for $50 with an hour of Haven lounge/bar time included.... ...but after the backlash from Haven guests, NCL changed direction..... "Recently, we explored making an extremely limited number of reservations for The Haven restaurant available to non-Haven guests. Given that this test has not been well received, we will continue to preserve The Haven experience exclusively for our Haven guests." - NCL So where are we at now? Well, it depends on the concierge, how busy/full a particular Haven sailing is, how many requests for non-Haven guests are made, the mood of the concierge, the phase of the moon,.....? A non-Haven guest can ask. The answer will either be "yes" or "no" but more often than not, it isn't allowed for non-Haven guests.
  17. It depends. Imagine that someone has a great balcony but decides to move up to a Haven suite. Someone else in an ocean view who wins that balcony will get a great stateroom. On the flip side, a terrible balcony is also available so the next person in an interior or ocean view will win that balcony stateroom.

  21. The Edge Class isn't built by Fincantieri. Edge/Apex/Beyond/Ascent/Xcel are built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in France. Seaside/Seaview/Seashore/Seascape (MSC), Prima/Viva/Aqua (NCL), Scarlet/Valiant/Resilient/Brilliant (Virgin Voyages) are built by Fincantieri and are based on Project Mille by Fincantieri. For the sound heard in the video and based on the location, maybe chengkp75 would know what the cause/solution is.
