  1. The Galley lunch is back on all cruises - as long as there’s a sea day. We don’t go as buffets are not our thing, but applaud Seabourn for having these, as it’s a unique chance for behind-the-scenes crew to shine.
  2. This is just a temporary replacement because they ran out. Montaudon will be loaded again in Sydney.
  3. I’ve learned to ignore comments on Cruise Critic 15 years ago and rely on my own experiences instead. Once onboard, your DH will quickly discover that lots of people wear short sleeved polo shirts regardless of what certain people write on here.
  4. I actually think the Montaudon is quite nice compared to NF. It’s the only included wine we drink. White and red we purchase. I agree the prices are really good, and after the 25% loyalty discount, many are actually cheaper than in our local store.
  5. Absolutely. The days that people stayed for 15, 20 or even life with a single employer are long gone.
  6. Strange. There have been countless “live from” posts on Seabourn Sailors from Ovation the past 4 weeks and most were very positive. Maybe there’s 2 Ovations.
  7. Sure reads like Josh was asked to leave. And his replaced is being layered down deeper into Holland America Line. She’s a long term HAL veteran too. Shame.
  8. So I know this is nerdy but we’ve been using an app called Vivino for years. You key in a wine, and it gives you its average retail price, a rating and many reviews. When we board Seabourn, I always go to The Square to get the list of included wines, and then I “vivino” the average retail price for all wines on the list, and then I calculate the average of that - so I know what Seabourn, on average, spends on a bottle of included wine. When we first cruised Seabourn in 2015, that was $34. Right now, on Sojourn, despite 8 years of inflation, that is $23.
  9. The moderators should amend the title of this topic. “No more Covid testing” simply isn’t true. It depends on the sailing you’re on.
  10. As Carnival is publicly traded, why do you even bother asking? He’d go to jail if he prematurely leaks information that moves the share price.
  11. We’ll still be here, as we’re on until Monaco, 6 June - so see you then 🙂 Officers and crew change continuously. Our current Captain is leaving in Melbourne, Hotel Director Luca is leaving in the Seychelles, TKG has new leadership as of yesterday, there’s new people in The Square, etc. etc. There won’t be an “everyone leaves” event in Barcelona. Some will go, some will stay, and the same will happen in the next turn-around port, and so on. But yes, Cruise Director Ross is leaving in Barcelona. I’ll see if they already know who is scheduled to replace him.
  12. There is an arts & crafts person on board that hosts 2 get togethers a day, painting and other crafts, at 10 am and 2 pm. And Cruise Director Ross hosts a needlepoint social at 4 pm on most days. There’s mahjong on the program (un-hosted). And from memory I have indeed seen bridge lessons advertised occasionally.
  13. I have to admit that on Sojourn, with Cruise Director Ross, there is lots of additional entertainment, besides daily trivia and name that tune. Sail-away parties, other (almost daily) events on the pool deck (we had an ABBA party, a boat-building competition, dancing with the stripes, caviar in the pool, caviar sail-aways, and yesterday an unannounced “pop up” dance party). And then there is Ross’ disco at 11 pm (!), outside on deck 5 aft. Stargazing with the Bridge Officers. I could go on. Captain Hamish is indeed very visible, if only because he has lunch at the Colonnade daily, and dinner at Earth & Ocean, and openly encourages people with questions to come see him at his table. Overall I’d happily rate the World Cruise 8 or even 9 out of 10 so far. On a different topic, The Grill has been outstanding with lots of menu variety since Chef Michael Sandoval from the Thomas Keller Group joined about 10 days ago.
  14. On both our October Quest cruise and December & January Sojourn cruises, suites were ready upon the start of boarding, ~12:15 pm.
  15. You’ll get 4 to 6 different emails during the last 14 days before your cruise with a different boarding time in each email, but you can ignore all of those and board whenever you want. Nobody at the port or on the ship cares. I have found that post Covid, the start of boarding is more like 12:30 pm than 12 noon, but the good news is, suites are now ready when you board (and you’ll find your room keys in the suite). Much more civilized than waiting for a “suites ready” announcement.
  16. There are countries for which you’ll need to get your own visa (online) such as Kenya and Tanzania. The visa service Seabourn offers for full World Cruise guests is only available to American passport holders (and maybe Canadian, I’m not sure). Us Europeans and Aussies are on our own. Also, don’t forget your original proof of yellow fever vaccination; we’ve already been asked for this on board.
  17. Australia is no stricter than the United States is for foreigners 🙂
  18. To answer the question… You can order from the Room Service menu as well as from the Restaurant menu (during hours that the Restaurant is open). You can’t order from The Grill or E&O.
  19. Always book on board and/or use FCDs. You get the promotion of the moment (like Suite Life) plus 5% off.
  20. They made an announcement that it was cancelled because of sea conditions and replaced by complimentary zodiac rides around the islands.
  21. I’ve always found super early, like late May best, because the mountains are still white and the glaciers unspoiled. October would just be cold and rainy, and most stores, etc. will have closed for the season.
  22. It’s no comparison. Viking is in the same category as Azamara and Oceania. Seabourn compares to Silversea and Regent. Fewer passengers, more crew, better service, better food, better everything. In Alaska I would absolutely go Seabourn because of the Expedition Team and zodiacs.
  23. Not good that service was so slow. The TK nights at the Colonnade are all large sharing platters. If there’s not enough, you just ask for more. The steak should have come with 3 side dishes - strange that those were missing. We love those evenings and the sharing concept; esp. fried chicken night.
  24. We were asked to bring proof of our yellow fever vaccination to the Square. They made copies, and that was it. Haven’t heard since.
