  1. I actually came back to say some OBC may not be used for gratuities so check to be sure. Yes and charity is always a good option too
  2. Suggestion - when you have left over OBC how about adding to crew tip rather than HAL coffers
  3. I did not get the offer but a friend did. The friend was only required to pay by October 30 with original final payment November 12. That is a no brainer. My savings account is now paying close to 5% so HAL will have to pay me 6% minimum for early payment
  4. No. You should call the insurance company. I called mine. Insurance companies pay claims by check. When you buy insurance you buy for the full value of the travel, if you did your claims can be made up to that value. Be sure the value of your flights is covered also.
  5. In another thread you mentioned you might drive. I know that the Best Western Yacht Harbor and Holiday Inn Airport both offer parking packages. I was quoted free 7 days with hotel stay and each additional day $5. That is quite an offer and worth considering. Many on my roll call give both hotels a passing to good grade. Both hotels say they offer a shuttle to airport but I have no experience
  6. Insurance companies never refund back to the original payment, that would not be possible. They were not the original merchant and can’t reverse an action by another merchant. They would simply send a check for any successful claim.
  7. No, with a solid backup plan you should be ok. Be sure to checkout all of your parking options just so you are familiar. San Diego has a few hotels that have decent rates but the port parking is expensive
  8. Exactly. What you realize when you read these threads is that for years you have been paying for what others think is great not what you think is needed. I have been subsidizing all types of activities, foods and services I have no use for. Give me a base fare and a menu of options any time.
  9. Download books on your reader. There are plenty of gamers onboard - besides bridge and other card games there are board and tile games. I joined a small community group at home which learns new games and puzzles weekly so i can participate onboard. I bring my own coloring sheets and pencils to idle away alone or even if I am visiting others, I spend a lot of time in the gym, spa or in physical recreation - swimming, tai chi, yoga, walking on the promenade. do get on your roll call and find out if anyone shares your hobby. For example on one of my recent cruises a group of ukulele players had found each other and practiced often together. There are usually a group of knitters/ crochet ears who gather to make a small article for charitable giving. blog your experiences here on cruise critic. We all enjoy reading the live threads.
  10. They are well worth the upgrade. I buy a few pieces at the end of every season as needed
  11. Usually I book the exact cabin I want but there are some exceptions. I book my airfare and any port hotels ASAP, refundable fares of course. I watch for price drops but knowing that is done certainly eases my mind. Those are the only things I consider necessary.
  12. It will definitely be accepted. I am always surprised when I go to the Carnival website that they still recognize me as a repeat customer and it is well over 15 years.
  13. I think this is doable for warm climes and with the right wardrobe. I have slowly migrated my wardrobe to those that can be rolled into a ball the size of my fist and still not wrinkle. 😉. For wet, windy, cold climes I like my bulky sweaters.
  14. Ok, now John is excited. You had him at the wurst menu ever but the bier garden and oompah band put him over. (He is from a German heritage farm community)
  15. That sounds late even for a deep cleaning. I was boarding after a deep cleaning a while back and we were able to get on around 2 or 3. Since it was spur of the moment HAL took our luggage and provided a food voucher and shuttle to a nice walk around area. Those were the days😉
  16. It depends on the card. I use mainly chase and you can freely exchange points at no cost between Chase and their travel partners. I am sure most major cards have similar programs. If you go out of network the fees and costs can be a little high for my liking. also my cars as other bank cards have the ability to purchase travel on their own website
  17. Check the itinerary, then events on your app. For my cruise next weekend it shows 5:30
  18. You can also travel up to 30 days before or after your cruise
  19. State department got travelers section Go to this page and enter the country you will be visiting https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html.html
  20. Perfect. Shuttles and hop ons make independent touring so much easier. Thanks you. I have posted a link to your thread on my roll call too.
  21. Usually 12 to 24 hours . I strongly recommend getting the free membership and tracking in app. So much easier for checkin
  22. I take a screen shot. I have never gotten an email. It will be on your invoice now so you can request an updated invoice. You can go back in to flight ease and screenshot the information. If you have an airline membership you can add that number to your flight at flight ease the you can view the flights from the airline website or app
  23. I think it is there should there be a fuel surcharge imposed.
  24. My tour guides in Boston have always been the most interesting fellows. Last one was a retired high level financial manager who told wry, funny stories about the big names and the big scandals that came out of Boston, plus being Boston, I learned more about baseball than one needs to know .
  25. Yes, the tours are programmed to get you to the airport at noonish and it is early. I always try to book the 2-3 flight to accommodate the tour. The best I have had is in Boston - a number of times with all excellent tour guides. Vancouver has a system where they take your luggage to either your hotel or airport while you ride the hop on bus. This was the absolute best, I put my luggage out the final evening and found it in my hotel room after dinner the next day (I called earlier in the afternoon to make sure it arrived). There have been a few stinkers but these were the only tours I booked for years - I really dislike managing luggage☹️.
