If you're in BC (looks like you are), you can register for a BC Services Card (app on your smart phone), then login to Health Gateway from there. A digital version of your vaccination card is available there.

Thanks burnabyjean.  I don't have a cell phone.

  2. I think there is to be a talk among the premiers of the various provinces tomorrow with regard to opening the borders to each province and maybe to the US?  We really miss our trips down to Bellingham and Seattle.  You will love Banff and Jasper.  Tofino and Victoria are also lovely. I presume you would take the ferry across to Vancouver Island and if you're lucky, you might just see some Orcas.  It's sad about the US wanting their cruise ships to bypass Canadian ports.  We always loved to pack a picnic and go to Stanley Park where we watched the ships sail by.  Not this year!

    I agree Whistler is beautiful.

  3. Me too.  I used to think if we had our picture on our vaccination certificate, it might stop the use of fakes.  But if they can get a fake travel passport, then they could get a vaccination certificate with a picture the same way.  We have laminated our little hand written one but it really does not look very "official".  I will ask my Dr tomorrow if there is a registry I can access to get something official printed out.

Mine’s the combination of the airport identifiers of two of my favorite places I used to live. TRK is Truckee, CA and KOA is Kona.

I do wish I hadn’t used the underscore. It’s a pain to type on an iPad.

I think you can ask cruise critic to change it by removing the underscore.

Hopefully mine is simple and a bit local.

I live in Belfast Northern Ireland, and we have a bad habit at times of speaking too quickly.

If you say Northern Ireland really quickly omitting the 'th' and the 'la' you should get norn iron.

now, I know.  I tried to figure out your name too.  I'm Irish born also.  We were scheduled to be in Belfast on Silhouette Sept 16 but we cancelled the cruise as it was too soon to trust this COVID mess is over.

  6. i think you have made a great decision.  Silhouette is a lovely ship.  Be sure to try the Lawn Club Grill.  We also prefer westbound for the extra hour on several days as the time gets adjusted.  We like the port side also for the sun which brightens the cabin.  There is no guarantee as to the calmness of the ocean but you do have a better chance doing the southern route.  Have a great cruise.

  7. I often wish I had chosen something better.  I was participating in a cooking forum and everything I tried as a screen name was already taken so I ended up with Teabag because my initial starts with a T.  As for the "bag".......just butt into a line-up where I have been waiting too long and you will see the demo!  Just kidding!  I did change it for a short while and met another cruiser who knew me by the former name and he told me to change it back so I did.  Some people have really great screen names.

  8. You're right.  I was taken for a man and when I posted once about LLP probably bringing back the chocolates on the pillow, (which she did) because women like chocolate.  I was told by someone that it was a sexist remark!  The remark was subsequently removed by the moderator and I put the poster on my ignore list.  End of problem!

The medical establishment is often slow to change its mind.  Sometimes takes a century or two.  And in the meantime, they vilify those who come up with "unorthodox" ideas such as handwashing.  See the case of Ignaz Semmelweis.

I read a novel by Morton Thompson called the Cry and the Covenant about the Semmelweis technique.  It was fascinating.

Just discovered this forum. We have been avid cruisers for many years and became Oceania addicts a few years ago now. We are going to try a AMA waterways river cruise in 2022, so any insights would be appreciated.

    David & Brenda, Calgary Alberta.

Our one and only river cruise was with AMA (Prima), Budapest to Amsterdam.  We thought they did a great job.  We loved the entertainment they brought on board.  Food was great.  it was lovely arriving right in the middle of town and just being able to walk off the ship to see what was there.  We didn't use the bicycles that were provided.  When 2 ports were close, people were able to ride from one to the other and rejoin the ship.  We had originally booked a "swan room" as they call them and we were upgraded to a balcony.  I would definitely book a balcony if we were going again.

We lived in Calgary in the late 70's.

Whew! That was a slog! Lots of technical stuff over my head, but lots of misinformation too. Not to mention unsubstantiated blaming of the victims!

Re my screen name: Mack is my husband’s last name and Molly was our dear old dog (now deceased). My given name is Betsey, after my maternal grandmother. My mother was supposed to be a Betsey too, but my grandfather put Bessie on the birth certificate (after his pet name for my grandmother). She hated it and was always known as Betty. Probably more information than you wanted! 😂

Not so.  It's great to know the background, interesting too.  For some reason I thought you were a man!  i guess it was because of the "Mack".  i enjoy your posts.

  12. I think your Mom should have a way to elevate her legs.   You don't want her getting DVT (deep vein thrombosis).   If you don't want to pay for bus. class seats, then I would advise you to see if you can get bulkhead seats in premium economy.  After the flight is airborne, then you could take down a carry-on suitcase and use it as a way to elevate her legs.

I hope you get to do this.  We are booked on the Eclipse, Honolulu to Vancouver in May 2023

  13. Well, I just went back to see if I could convert to CDN to answer your question Jazzbeau.  Yes, you can and the conversion rate is amazing 13%!!!  I may have to rethink this!  I wonder if it's a mistake?  We are used to paying over 30% but the CDN $ has been increasing lately so it's now well below 30% but not 13%.
