  1. I think you may have missed the caveat that X has posted their T&C's at their website for all to read and ponder before purchasing. Since you purchased your cruise through a third party, it is that party you need to sue about not having access to the T&C's when certainly they are available, regardless of where you purchased your passage. The "merit" in all of this, as has been stated many times before when passengers have been upset with X over similar disappointments, is finding an attorney who will take on 'the cause' on a contingency basis... emphasis on contingency as most of us are not willing to put our money where our mouths are to litigate or are we??? bon voyage

  3. HC while I really, really LOVE The Edge, for an Alaska sailing I would go with either 1) Millie or 2) Solstice... I think they are better suited for this type of sailing... JMO Good luck with the decision process with them and let us know what they decide... bon voyage

  5. r did you book direct with X or through a TA? If direct, you may have been assigned a CVP who can possibly go to bat for you and most definitely if through a TA they need to step up and advocate for your needs. Unfortunately, here in the US, most CSR's are trained to say no with upper management believing that we will accept it and move on ... I say splash those waves and go up the ladder.   6. If I understand the situation correctly as you wrote, the family had nine (9) cruises booked and only three (3) cruises were on offer for L&S??? If that is the case, then this calls for their TA to spring into action to get it addressed correctly. Now, if there were nine (9) cabins and only three (3) were offered L&S, there again their TA needs to spring into action to get it addressed correctly, especially if they booked a group or made it known to X they were traveling as a group. I think there is a mis-connect in terms of communication on the situation here which requires special addressing. Thank you and bon voyage

  9. ag - actually, methinks, this is only the "debacle" of the hour... With X being a world wide corporation it is, short notice cancellation of sailings is most likely nothing compared to other issues we do not ever hear about, in real time... As such, keeping this in My perspective, when I read some of these potential life changing issues, I wonder what more serious issues X has to deal with that are really devastating, not only impacting passengers and also X (or any other international entity). Yet, from my selfish perspective, something like this has to be about me and what I want in a similar situation... well, maybe for only a few days... then on to plan D in consultation with my family and friends who generally travel with us and our TA.   10. ag - I agree, yet I usually for short haul flights here in the US, purchase non-refundable tickets no worry as my travel insurance refund would be quick and easy... For tickets which would cost me more than $750 p/p, I buy refundable and watch for lower pricing on non-refundable as the flight gets closer, if available, just in case. But these days, it is a roll of the dice for sure on airline tickets... LOL bon voyage
  11. I understand for sure... all of the situations during C-19 brought new policies to bear... Not sure what the current policies covering air and cruise cancellations are, yet I do understand that they are returning towards pre-C19 ones. bon voyage
  12. ag - I did forget to write that CFAR policies are expensive, but there are travelers who really want them. These policies can cost up to 70%+ more than a basic policy covering health and cancellation and trip interruption alone. A little steep for my taste, yet I understand the (emotional) advantages that it provides for those who purchase those types of policies. Thank you and bon voyage
  13. jc - here in the US we can purchase travel insurance which covers 'non-refundable' costs. If one purchases non-refundable airline tickets, more often than not one would have to prove that they did not receive ANY credit for the fare and I have heard of some people waiting for the credit to expire before applying for re-imbursement, that time frame varies by airline. Cancel for any reason riders, here in the US, provide for up to 75% re-imbursement of non-refundable costs and as low as 50%. Varies by insurers... bon voyage
  14. Okay, while I have no other data than here on CC, I believe that many US travelers who purchase annual travel insurance do it mainly for the heath coverage as trip interruption and other travel related expenses are quite spartan, relatively. bon voyage
  15. Most insurers permitted the policy to be transferred to a new sailing without additional charge unless the non-refundable costs went up (not down). bon voyage
  16. Some prefer the comfort and knowledge that these types of tours are planned out for them in advance. When we did Alaska a few years back, it was decided that DIY tour was in order to do what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it. We found it magnificent that way in Alaska as the only schedule we had was to meet the train to Seward in Anchorage... bon voyage
  17. Okay, did not realize this is a UK booking, which will have different policies from the US... I would be upset, too, as stated before to the OP. Here in the US, we have travel insurance policies which will cover such instances provided they are declared at time of policy sign up or when the tickets were purchased, which ever is later. bon voyage

  21. Actually, bf, for the points you cited where you never "said that", I never attributed them to you or anyone else... they were questions on the situation. I will go check other postings on this situation, I Am sure you are correct that there are sailings happening in the next six (6) months on which passengers were cancelled due to the situation, regardless of what it is. If passengers are being cancelled in under one (1) year, there had to be a major meltdown somewhere, somehow... Flights are expensive to Asia, I know as I soon will have to book 'refundable' business class flights from the US... just in case a situation like this would happen to us, then again my travel insurance would cover this so not worried on that point. Unless I missed it, please tell us what the X agent covering your country has stated what the real issue is causing the cancellations, I Am sure most of us would like to know other than what some have stated they told by X and etc. "Deliberately covering up the problem"??? Have you actually been bumped or is this a reaction to other postings for similar sailings? Also, if you are in the EU as your signature suggest, are there not strong consumer protection laws in place to cover this and you can call for assistance? Just a thought. You can buy tickets, is it too late to buy them, in your country, through X, in which case fully refunded if they cancel or change your sailing. Yes, you can proceed, you are in the unfortunate position of having to guess how to proceed in your best interest, especially on such short notice. I do not envy you at all. This is the first time I have read where there were "wide spread" X initiated cancellations, very unusual to be sure. Rather you go on your selected sailing or not, I still wish you a bon voyage on whatever sailing, land or river holiday you may or may not choose. All the best.
  22. Alright, would things be better were your reservation was re-instated and someone else's cancelled? Should X hurriedly clone another ship so everyone who has the unfortunate news that they were bumped and magically placed on the new ship? Are any of the sailings within the next six (6) months? I know for some passengers who were bumped, these sailings were bucket lists and I understand that well... Has any of those directly affected checked other cruise lines for similar itineraries and time frames to salvage non-refundable airfares, non-refundable hotels, non-refundable tours which most likely can get refunds in many cases through either X or travel insurance??? While I would be disappointed in any cancellation, this provides an opportunity for those who are very, very, very upset at the situation to springboard to another line where they can get the sailing they want, transparency they deserve, potential compensation for any thing cancelled on the new sailing and most of all, they can kiss X good bye for good (or at least for a bit)... As I understand it, X has made offers of compensation and provided other sail date offers, which, IMO, indicates taking responsibility for the challenge to some degree or not??? Need X provide all, who believe that they have been "unceremoniously" holding the bag over the cancellations, a passenger list of those who were not bumped and let you decide who does not sail so you can? My other question is, what has your TA or CVP said about this and is there a possible wait list in case someone cancels (not that I would advocate waiting in case it would not happen). This, unfortunately, is one of those situations where there will be very few ways to get back on-board, even if one were to reach out to the CEO. Good luck to you and others affected by this situation and please let us know how things play out BUT you did come to a good sounding board, support group and a place to vent.... bon voyage
  23. l43 - I recommend you call X ASAP to find out what the possible downsides would be instead of waiting and possibly missing out on the better cabin...   24. c4 - I understand that for sure... yet for me while I believe I could handle it okay (after a few bourbons) would prefer it be Timbuktu as the decision would be easier, what is most expedient way to handle my emotions and the body, including leaving it there.... But I always have travel insurance so as it is not a real issue for processing... Salud and bon voayge
