  1. I do not agree with this assessment in terms of not offering a choice, we have always held the option of choices dear and the hard learned lesson of not having a choice is more dire than having one for most Americans. Just my thoughts on the situation... bon voyage
  2. Another reason to have travel insurance, as the policy would have enough coverage to repatriate... That would have been the most economical option, IMO, then again hindsight... Rabbit hole: were he to survive the heart attack and was medevacked to the nearest hospital in the Caribbean, the cry would be I want him to go to a hospital in FL for treatment and when she heard the cost, then all heck would be given as to their rights as Americans and etc... no win in that case, unless insurance was purchased!!! In health and bon voyage
  3. While I do not believe that this is SOP for any cruise line, regardless, family members should have been called by the wife to help out in the decision making process on what to do (since now they are all involved in the lawsuit). I can hear it now, "they forced me off the ship in PR and I could not emotionally handle it... etc." damn if they do, damn if they do not!!! Gave her choices and she picked one, not good in the long run, but she chose... Feel bad for her situation BUT if she, possibly, chose not to call family with the choices at hand to get input..... and if she could not articulate those choices clearly I Am sure that someone from X would speak with them to clarify. "I was confused..." is not a defense, IMO, in these types of situations, especially with support from ship staff and family, available. Dice were rolled and they were not snake eyes or a pair of 12's.... In health and bon voyage
  4. In this case, they could be baaaaaack!!! LOL bon voyage
  5. My question is 'what will Z wear to Blu'???? LOL bon appetit and bon voyage
  6. bawl - good thing is, you can wait until you board to figure out the policy enforce to determine about the upgrade or not.... One day only to determine, to be sure... Cheers and bon voyage
  7. Hello all, in September we will want to find a reliable tour for Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius, if possible, from the port in Naples? Also, if anyone knows, there are six (6) of us who would start out at Pompeii and only two (2) of us who would continue on to Mt. Vesuvius... any chance that this can be accommodated??? TIA - bo1953
  8. My thinking is, if the ship is chartered it is usually done far enough ahead where passengers can often times make other arrangements with OBC and refunds and etc. to accommodate the inconvenience. Not that one wants to do that, yet there is time to adjust and make alternate arrangements if desired. While I have not read the threads where others have complained about this (I will look for them) I cannot comment or say that X did not communicate in a timely manner AND/OR offer alternatives AND/OR offer other accommodations to remedy the situation. As such, I do believe X has communicated to some degree and possibly the passengers did not like what they heard? As such, I can believe that X may not have communicated, to a great degree, in a timely basis for passengers to turn on a dime to make alternative arrangements for a bucket list trip and etc... Timing on both??? bon voyage
  9. I understand your thoughts and approach, yet getting off in PR and calling immediate family as to what has happened, I would "tend" to believe that at least one (1) of the adult children would fly there to help mother sort it out.... If not, then there is a bigger challenge at play here vs X's mortuary not operating correctly, which is a problem that could have been out of their control as well... not to excuse that aspect. bon voyage
  10. There was no solid evidence presented, IMO, that the OP's sailing was going to be cancelled so panic ensued, yet I do not blame them at all to salvage or change what was perceived to be an impending challenge. Thus the value of a good TA to go to bat for the passenger and not worry about it. A case where the refrigeration has not gone out, or yet and I panic about "what if"... something which may not happen so soon... LOL Thank you and bon voyage
  11. prm - My guess is, she had no travel insurance which would have paid for the re-patriation. bon voyage
  12. j methinks it is too late for the OP to do that without incurring a significant rate increase for the sailing. Cheers and bon voyage
  13. Unless there is a sale, you can find the current and best discount in your CP... Otherwise you can speculate and wait for a sale to see if you can get upwards of 15% off. Cheers and bon voyage
  14. Yes, it does, just not the beverages that are considered premium, there are substitutes though with the exception of smoothies... and maybe a few others, but very few. Cheers and bon voyage
  15. While I cannot dispute what you have found as I have only seen in perusing X's website, you may want to give your TA or X a call to determine how to purchase the amount of OBC desired. Enjoy your sailing and bon voyage
  16. d2 - I ran into that on our last sailing on The Summit last year, so I just adjusted the time I went to earlier... The staff was incredibly accommodating, to me, if I was there 15 - 20 minutes before opening... Cheers and bon voyage
  17. Is it possible, just possible the OP meant $1.2k???? Not sure if this $ amount is reasonable for the cabin type and # of passengers??? bon voyage
  18. PBP covers the smoothies in The Spa Cafe... Cheers and bon voyage
  19. Yes, I do, look at an X sailing which intrigues you and you find 'reasonable' in terms of cost and itinerary. In fact select several and ask your IL's which appeals to them the most. Just remember that you may be footing the bill for the parents yourself if the IL's get upset and decide not to participate. There will be enough sailings over 'school' break on X that will appeal to the young adults as there will be a few aboard and provide an additional experience that other lines may not offer, especially if you provide them the opportunity to help plan the sailing and port excursions... Good luck and bon voyage
  20. ... or a would be unabashed gawker... LOL bon voyage
  21. Okay, I do get it for sure. I can only indicate that were I either included or overheard such chats from 'those' men, were they the ones who were being overlooked for such assignments? Maybe that "... certain captain lady..." is getting so much attention and support and experience which, again, has been denied so many before her and others who have yet to catch up. Then again, if all I wanted was the 'huge chairs' it would be all over my survey and brought to the attention of the the hotel director. I do understand you are just relating a conversation with a few disgruntled 'men' concerning opportunities aboard X. While I do not know, but now wonder how many other cruise lines are opening up the ranks beyond the traditional 'groups' afforded opportunities on their ships and what the passengers think of them??? Thank you again and bon voyage
  22. Personally, your comment was not nasty or wrong in any sense, I took it in the way that it overlooked the history of ship captains and related crew... When someone steps up to the plate to try and correct that history, then all heck breaks out as to who, now, has the opportunity to participate with the help of mentors and advocates. While I have no statistics, yet I would be willing to say that there are many individuals who wish(ed) to captain or crew on many ships and were denied based on outmoded thoughts on who was worthy or had the 'experience' to. Thank you regardless. bon voyage
