  1. When sailing up to view the glaciers in Alaska they open up the bow to all passengers for sightseeing. Otherwise it's a crew area.
  2. So what did the insurance company say? Oceania does not provide trip insurance. The insurance is provided thru Allianze(sp?) or was. I am watching this closely to make future decisions. Too early for me to jump ship yet.
  3. PCC's may not be "real TAs" but they still work on commission, which is the why. In other words may be self promoting. I am always careful to browse cruises while logged out of my account knowing I'll get a phone call if I don't log out.
  4. I don't understand how this applies. This ship did not embark from a US port. From the FMC webpage "FMC requires cruise lines to have a bond or other financial surety available to refund passenger deposits in the event of nonperformance or for death or injury on a voyage. This requirement applies to cruise lines that embark from a U.S. port and have at least 50 berth accommodations."
  5. Net income is mentioned. What does that mean for profit?
  6. Their is no usual time. They are offered when NCL wants to fill ships. Right now NCLH is running at 106% capacity so I don't expect to see too many extra points. They may offer the extra points on select itineraties that aren't selling well. This offer was very common after the Covid shutdown.
  7. My opinion is it's a risk. I had a flight from portland to seattle(a 45 minute flight) delayed by 6 hours due to a mechancal failure on the plane. Although there were other flights to seattle that day they were all booked. So I would say it depends on how lucky you feel. I did fly once the day of embarkation. Had a schedule that didn't allow flying in a day early and really wanted to take this cruise. That was a mexican riviera cruise, flight was from portland to LA. It worked out fine but would never do it again if possible. In this case the cruise was "only" a couple thousand dollars and flight $200.
  8. In august we took a NCL excursion. Dropped us off at new port to take buses on the tour then dropped us off in Fira with ticket for cable car. There was no line for the cable car going down.
  9. It is not mandatory or recommended in the Caribbean. It is recommended but not required in some parts of South America. See the cdc website for details.
  10. As others have noted it depends. In my case I booked a Jan. 2024 cruise on board in March 2023. Then this summer oceania came out with the extraordinary summer sale at 25% off. My cruise was included. I rebooked and saved $7,000. Now have SM which saves me even more. When you rebook you get current price but worth checking.
  11. Yes that would have been me as a teenager. 🙂
  12. LATRIPLE means you get 3 extra latitudes points per night. So if you're in a balcony cabin(not haven) you'd get 4 points per night. or 28 points total for a 7 day cruise.
  13. I've had this happen once, where bar service was so slow. On the other side I've had somewhat the opposite happen. We really liked the NCL branded blend of wine. At the end we asked for and received a full unopened bottle to take back to our room. As part of the beverage package since the two of us had two room keys and a bottle provided 4 glasses they could justify it.
  14. Our opinion: Bliss and Encore are really nice, loved the sauna on the GEM rest of spa is OK. I would be tempted to book another cruise on the GEM just for the sauna(panoramic views). 🙂 I would never pay for pass on Spirit. It's advertised as a thermal spa but really isn't. No therapy pool, steam room, etc. asked for and received refund when we got onboard.
  15. I'll jump in and say yes on my return flight from Auckland NZ. The terminal at the airport flooded and all flights were canceled. I rebooked thru, in this case, Hawaiian air. NCL can not help if within 72 hours as noted in other responses.
  16. FWIW on our recent GEM sailing we upgraded after final payment and receiving FCC for a price drop on the original cabin. We still received the FCC after sailing but I wasn't expecting it... I would have been happy no matter how things turned out...
  17. Yes and those that complain of nickel and diming can always book with Regent and pay 10's of thousands of dollars more. No nickel and diming there. 🙂 🙂
  18. We do this all the time and have never had a problem.
  19. I think the OP should be grateful. He at least has a slim chance of resolving whereas had he shown up at the pier no chance.
