  1. Vison Class isn't really a traditional ship "Class". It basically comprised 3 pairs of ships and while it's unclear if all 6 ships were all built under the "Project Vision" umbrella, the class name was apparently named after the project, rather than any specific ship. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vision-class_cruise_ship It would be like using "Genesis Class" instead of Oasis Class.
  2. Yes. We've arrived late morning as we checked out of the hotel and took a short train ride and really had no where else to go, and where we boarded wasn't really near anything. I don't think we were even the first people there. We just hung out in the lounge as they were turning the ship over. Depending on where you are boarding, you may just want to drop your luggage off, check in, and then take off for a few hours. You can do that also. I am not sure if the plugs are actually E/F or C, but both of these have worked just fine for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YDF8GCT/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058EG0KC/ I also suggest using a multi port charging station like this, so that you minimize the number of outlets you need for charging: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BX3V6ZZX/
  3. Just never really got in the habit of using the phone wallet app.
  4. While I have no issues with and prefer to use the app, I do pack a printed copy in my carry on just is case.
  5. At the port "check in" is the "Set Sail Pass". So my previous statement still stands. If she is traveling with anyone else on the same or linked reservation, you only need 1 person whose phone has the app (and working) as you can swipe from passenger to passenger on the same phone to get each person's Set Sail Pass. You have not given any indication as to whether she is (a minor?) traveling with you/family (or friends) on the same reservation or an adult (where she might be on her own unlinked reservation).
  6. If anyone else she is traveling with on the same or linked reservation can use the app (iPhone or Android), she or they can check her in without needing to print documents. Even the boarding passes can be swiped to others in the same party.
  7. Yes. The PC ended in LA. I think @CVU may have gotten this thread confused with the "On Radiance ... all ports cancelled due to issues with proposal system " thread 😉
  8. Drinking age from sailings originating in Europe (including Rome) is 18 https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/international-age-policy Personally, I'd get a Wi-Fi plan that covers everyone with 1 device per person, including yourselves. Get the fewest multi-device plans you can, so if there's 7 of you, that's 1 @ 4 devices and 1 @ 3 devices. Do not get a 1 device package for each person. Once you get to 3 & 4 devices per plan, the per device cost goes way down. Install WhatsApp on everyone's phone. This is far more reliable in roaming situations than attempting to text, especially if your phone will try to auto switch between RCS and SMS. If they use texting with friends, they should switch to WhatsApp while on the cruise. You can create a group chat to keep in contact for meeting and stuff throughout your cruise. Note that when someone is in a Star Class suite, the Genies use WhatsApp to communicate. And the internet is fast enough to stream shows, and the coverage on the newer ships (like Odyssey) is excellent. As mentioned before, if you use T-Mobile, the included international coverage should be good enough while off the ship when used in conjunction with an on ship Wi-Fi package. Since this is your first cruise, I see nothing wrong with just using the ship excursions. The guarentee to not miss or rejoin the cruise can be an ease of mind on an initial cruise. That said, if you are comfortable, go for it. And as mentioned previously, join your cruises Roll Call. Many times other people will do the leg work for a private/independent excursion and post up details to join them. We are doing Odyssey in the Fall with Greece and Turkey (was originally Holy Land). We will be doing a combination of ship and independent.
  9. No 'R', and too close to another famous ship name 😉
  10. In this thread back in January, there was a list of registered names. At that time, there was an good argument for "Idol of the Seas", but obviously that doesn't work with "TR". It did correctly call that a new ship would reuse Legend. Once there is solid information, it should be posted here:
  11. The Spring one (08-Apr-24) was released Wednesday, 09-Nov-22 (I know, because I booked it the day it was released) The 07-Oct-23 PC cruise Roll Call thread was created 09-Mar-22 by someone that booked it the previous day. My guess is that it was released on the 8th or shortly before. Right now, I believe some releases are delayed as they are somewhat busy rescheduling the UWC around Africa instead of going through the Suez canal.
  12. I use Android phones (Samsung Galaxy), not iPhones, but from past threads it's been said that iPhones cannot WiFi Hotspot a WiFi connection, it can only Hotspot a mobile connection, and I don't think you want to be hot spotting a mobile at sea connection 😉 I get a 2 device plan and set up our 2 phones. Then we hotspot our phones to connect the Firestick, laptop, tablet. But again, we use Android.
  13. Never been on Uni. Have not done Christmas Markets with Ama (parents are fans of Grand Circle). But I can say that AmaMagna is amazing! We loved it (did the Grand Danube on her). We also did a Pre in Prague with them and thought they did a great job, we loved Prague. Info on AmaMagna, the Prague extension, and a couple of the first port stops that are probably the same (just not as Christmas Market) here:
  14. I use ExpressVPN, and have had no issues. Used on Allure, Radiance, Odyssey, Navigator, Jewel, and maybe Freedom (don't remember). You will just have to turn it off to log in initially, and if you ever want to log in/out to switch devices.
  15. That's why we pack a universal remote with our Firestick. Then you have access to a Source button. Also, Odyssey has the newer interactive system (as you show). When we were on Odyssey, our experience was that we had to unplug the network cable and power cycle the TV before we could actually change the source. With the network cable plugged in, it force-launched the custom software as the top priority which usually (or used to?) prevent you from changing the source, effectively disabling all other inputs. I've had to do that in some hotels also. but @GenSteve, my main suggestion would be to get an inexpensive universal remote and take that. I also use a VPN. One other thing I've found is that my Firestick does not have a GPS, so that's all I need. However, if I try to watch some streaming services (like YTTV) from a device with a GPS, they will refuse to launch if the GPS is disabled, and if the GPS is enabled, it ignores the VPN for location and goes by the GPS location, allowing it to Geo-lock the content anyway 😞. I would suspect that a Roku also doesn't have a GPS.
  16. Depending on the issue, it can give hints. Not all engine issues are instantaneous. I'm just saying that what ever the issue, it must have been something pretty instant. It's working fine...crap, it's broke. There were no rumors or gossip (that I heard) of going slower, or operating with 1 azipod instead of 2 or anything like that. In past situations, I think the issue usually happens or develops during a cruise, and there's info/gossip/rumors that make it's way around the ship and it all get posted here. In this case, it's like it happened between cruises. Our cruise was fine, next cruise starting with engine issues. @Beachin2's new info on the timing makes sense. While the next cruise didn't start with issues, it happened pretty much right away. If it was over night, within 12 hours of leaving LA. @Beachin2 Hope it's a quick repair and your cruise is unaffected.
  17. We have not done a TA or a TP yet, but have Allure TA booked for Fall of 2025. The way my wife and I look at it, we'd rather have the long international flight at the start of our vacation, and the short domestic flight at the end. So, to that end, Fall TA from Europe to the US, and someday a Spring TP from Australia to the US. Retirement plan - Fly to Australia, land tours of Australian/New Zealand of things you wont get from a cruise, then B2?/3?B (Australia/New Zealand B2B's), then B2B TP's back to the US (or Vancouver if that's what we have to do)
  18. Just off 14 nights on Radiance, and overall, I think all 4 of our group thought the food was pretty good. Only a couple disappointments. Good enough that I gained 11 pounds. 🙂
  19. Wow! This really sucks for those on board. We just got off from the Panama Canal cruise, and I never heard anything about any hints of possible propulsion issues. 2 of our table mates (who we had a great time with) were staying on board for this leg. I feel especially bad for them.
  20. Part of that, like Norway, is environmental. UNESCO and net-zero. A new class will likely solve that by going LNG, like Icon and Utopia. A project name like "Discovery" doesn't imply simply focused on home ports. While Captain Rumen (Radiance) didn't really have too much to say, he did say that part of the design process was deciding where all they want to be able to go in order to figure out the dimensional limitations (like bridge heights). which also implies looking at ports of call and not simply home ports.
  21. Are you using a VPN? I get that if I forget to turn my VPN off.
