  1. Princess had the horse races in the Piazza before covid. I've been on 4 Princess cruises since the restart and no horse races. Since this was an indoor activity that attracted large crowds I assume it was discontinued due to covid. Hopefully they will restart the races in the future.
  2. Great trivia. Anyone know what happened to the pool table? I have been on the Grand several times but never saw one. Maybe I missed it but I'm guessing is must have been removed?
  3. This is a bug I have run into several times. Try logging out, then logging in again, then saving... Or try another browsers or device. Last resort, clear cookies, refresh pages and try again. HTH, Rick
  4. Yes, an iPad works but the problem is the internet on the ship rarely supports streaming. Just getting email can be challenging at times. Where are your cruising? I have seen some good reports when in Caribbean but since the restart I have been on pacific coast, Mexico and Alaska cruises. It was so bad on the Alaska cruise I don't think we will pay for internet or the plus package again since Princess is not delivering That aside, DW and I have really enjoyed cruising since the restart, just not the internet.
  5. So true ! It's worth checking out the Mariachi bands. We saw a good one in the mall directly across from the pier in Puerto Vallarta. Less that a half mile walk from the pier.
  6. I'm able to login in using window 10 and chrome just a few minutes ago, although I run into the same problem your seeing or a regular basis at Princess.com. Here's what I do when Princess.com is having problems Try a different browser and try again. Most computer have multiple browsers loaded Try a different device and try again. I usually move from my laptop to tablet or phone Although the customer shouldn't have too, clear your cookies on the browser and try again Princess has the highest down time of any revenue system I have ever encountered. I shutter as to the amount of revenue they forfeiting each year. I sure hope the captains keep Princess corporate and IT far away from the bridge as possible. I have really enjoyed my last 4 cruises on Princess since the restart. Hats off to the Galley, Bridge and the entire crew. Princess corporate and IT are an entirely different story. IMO - code red in the business world
  7. Riviera Deck has a door and the alt end of the hallway with about 4-5 steps up to the Terrace Pool. I'm in R746 and a friend in R744 on the 9/17/22 Ruby cruse. All the cabins in this area, Interior, Balcony and Aft facing Balcony are popular because of the proximity to the pool Horizon Terrace and Cafe Caribe area. HTH, Rick
  8. Not discouraging the OP, in fact encouraging them to take a South Pacific cruise as it's one of my favourites. As I said both cruises are great, both itinerary's have pros / cons - just providing options based on my travels to AU / NZ. As for pricing I checked this morning and a 1 way LAX -SYD economy seat is currently $650 to $800 depending on the day travelled. Add that to the 1 or 2 day hotel or Airbnb stay in the Sydney area and there is a net savings since the Tahiti round trip cruise from LA. To the OP marymount. The intent of my post was to encourage you to take a South Pacific cruise as it's truly beautiful. Regardless if it's the round trip cruise from LA that you mentioned or the Pacific crossing I described both are winners in my book. If you have any questions about the Pacific crossing please let me know. Enjoy your cruise, Rick
  9. My favorite pacific cruise is Sydney to the west coast or vice versa. These are repositioning cruises when the cruise lines move ships to / from North America to Australia / New Zealand every spring and fall. For the same price or less the ship stops at Sydney, New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii, IMO the 4 gems of the pacific. Why settle for 2 gems when you can get 4 for about the same price. Also, I would rather take a non-stop flight from SFO, LAX, YVR or DFW to Sydney than spend 9 days at sea returning from Tahati. Really can't go wrong with either cruise but the last time I checked the SFO to SYD cruise was about $1200 less PP (balcony) than the Tahiti cruise out of LA. That would cover the one way LAX-SYD airfare and a night or two in Sydney which has one of the most beautiful harbors and sail outs in the world! Both cruises are great, both have pros / cons so check the itineraries and pricing and let us know what you decide.
  10. Yes, great tip. Because if something does go missing a picture will help your room steward find the item. It happened to me once and when I mentioned to my steward I had a picture of the missing item his eyes lit up. A day or so later he found the missing item.
  11. Similar story for us. I just cancelled our December 33 day South America trip because of airline cancellations and the mess that creates. I had a good itinerary booked from Buenos Aires to SFO and airline cancellations turned my one stop 16 hour journey into a 2 stop 30 hour journey. Not worth it to me. Were not flying until the airline problems return to some semblance of normalcy. I have a 28 day Australia trip booked in October 2023 and I really hope the airlines have it together and we can go. I certainly don't want to cancel that one. I also want to book a few trips to Europe but I'm not interested in cancelled flights on long hauls. Currently for us the biggest deterrent to cruising are the airline problems.
  12. $5 dollar minimum on Baccarat, Craps and Roulette on my last 4 cruises on the Ruby since the restart. Craps table usually opens a 8pm on sea day which surprised me as I though it would be open in the day as well. Same with Baccarat most of the time although on two cruises there we lots of players and they asked for the table to be opened during the day and casino obliged. I didn't play Blackjack and the variants but those tables usually opened as soon as the casino officially opened and a Roulette table usually opened shortly thereafter.
  13. Here is what I was charged for wine on the last 4 sailing on the Ruby out of San Francisco. I usually bring 4 bottles for DW and myself. 11/27/21 2 @ $15 at the wine table during check in, 2 n/c for cabin use 1/31/22 2 @ $15 at the wine table during check in, 2 n/c for cabin use. 1 @ $20 for corkage at dinner in the MDR, I brought this unopened bottle from my cabin to the MDR so the corkage fee applies 4/16/22 2 @ $15 at the wine table during check in, 2 n/c for cabin use 5/30/22 2 @ $15 at the wine table during check in, 2 n/c for cabin use HTH, Rick
  14. Be it high end or budget the most important thing IMO is to carry and use binoculars on any scenic cruise especially Alaska. I was on 5/30/22 Ruby sailing and brought two binoculars. My favorite Canon 12x36 image stabilised, very nice - very expensive. My budget binos, Nikon 10x25 Sportstar (or similar priced Nikon) which would fit your budget and still provide great views. Sure, I agree with some of the previous posters that budget binos don't have the quality optics, wider field of view or the amazing but expensive image stabilisation but IMO there is a place for budget binos. I always bring my Nikon 10x25's with me. They are small, light, durable and fit in a coat pocket, backpack etc. Anytime I go outside on the Alaska cruise I bring coat and my small 10x25's and as the naturalist will tell you "the best side of the ship is the outside ''. So be there with your binoculars. Here are just a few of the many sights I saw on the 5/30 cruise with the 10x25's. - Eagles roosting in the tall trees across from the pier in Ketchikan - Several whale sightings in the inland passage. No big breaches but some nice tails - greatly enhanced with my budget binos. - The wild life and waterfalls on the sail in and out of all the ports, particularly Skagway and Juneau. - Glaciers. Everyone wants to see big calving and I didn't see any big ones this trip - oh well. Much to my surprise I focused in at the base of the glaciers and saw several small calves with the 10x25's that most people didn't notice. Enjoy your Alaska cruise! I sure did !! HTH, Rick
  15. I have been in 6 aft facing balconies on Grand class ships. I have never had soot but have read reports from credible sources that it can sometimes be a problem. If you do get soot ask the room steward to clean it . I agree that it's highly depended on how the wind is blowing. Occasionally I've had down drafts from the funnels (smoke stacks) and the smell is quite noticeable but so far no soot. During Covid the crew is sometimes allowed to smoke on the aft section of the promenade. On rare occasions I have smelled the smoke on the Baja aft facing balcony but on the Dolphin deck it was more noticeable since it's only 2 decks above the promenade. HTH, Rick
  16. I usually wear a KN95 mask while on board but walked through the casino one night when I was wearing a N95. Wow, what a difference!! It really reduces the amount of smoke so now I always wear a N95 when in the casino, theater and crowded public areas onboard where the viral load is most likely higher.
  17. Thanks to those who posted your sky suite impressions and experiences - it is very helpful for planning. How was the MUTS sound system when on the outside balcony of the Sky Suite? Personally for me the sound system is very loud and I never spend any time on the Sun or Lido deck by the pools but obviously lots of people don't seem to mind. What is your experience with the sound systems when on the Sky Suite balcony? Is it just as loud as the Sun or Lido deck? One of the primary reasons I would consider booking this suite was to spend time on the cabin balcony talking with friends and I don't want our conversions to be drowned out by the sound system. I also prefer the connection to the sea when on the cabin balcony as opposed to amplified entertainment. Thoughts / Comments? Thanks in Advance, Rick
