  1. We are also on Iceland Air coming home, direct to Newark. Just a heads up, we flew with them once before for a land trip to Iceland, and my DW reminded me that they do not serve a meal. They do have food that you can BUY.
  2. That's too bad. It really is a nice option. Perhaps, you can find a private tour that will give you a stop at Stonehenge and get you to Heathrow on time.
  3. BOO!!!! on destroying the libraries. Our first HAL cruise was the Noordam for the Eastern Mediterranean, and the library was what most impressed me about HAL.
  4. NO! If it was a rule, they would not enforce it. Ergo, it is not a rule which allows them to enforce it. 🤦‍♂️
  5. In 2020 (cruise cancelled of course for Covid), we were going to take a Princess transfer back to Heathrow with a stop at Stonehenge. My DW was actually looking more forward to that than the cruise itself. Years earlier, we had done something similar with a Princess excursion back from Dover to Heathrow with a walking tour of Dover and a stop at Canterbury. It was well worth the extra cost. Plus it made you feel like you were still on your cruise vacation instead of now heading back to the airport with your cruise behind you.
  6. This is not us It was posted in our roll call. Our flights are not perfect, but worth the savings. I wish we were non-stop from Newark to London, but go by way of Montreal. Going home is non-stop from Reykjavik.
  7. Our cruise is from London (Southampton) to Reykjavik Passengers (including us) have been getting our flight information the last few days. One poster said they have not got theirs yet, but have friends who are doing the same itinerary in June. The first couple flies direct from Salt lake City to Heathrow. But the return is a horror. Reykjavik to Frankfort, Germany overnight where they will have to pay for their own accommodations. Then JFK and another connection before getting to Salt Lake City. And their daughter and 2 friends are also on the cruise. They are also direct from Salt Lake City to Heathrow. And they have a different horrible assignment coming back. Reykjavik to Toronto, again overnight at their expense. Toronto to Boston and then one more connection before arriving back in Salt Lake City.
  8. Yes, I came to the same conclusion. And this morning, I booked the hotel. The rate seemed reasonable, and then at checkout taxes were added, and the final price was over 1/3 higher. Oh well, what can you do. DW later said "Did you check hotels.com or expedia?". And I then checked both and Hotels.com final price was way lower, and the taxes were lower also. So, I booked with them and cancelled with the hotel (hopefully the credit will show up in 3-5 business days as it says) and saved not quite $110.
  9. Our flights out are on an airline (United) operated by another airline, Air Canada. There is of course a confirmation code. I confirmed with my TA that that was the code to use when checking the airlines website. But, it turned out United could only do certain things, but not others like seat selection. And luckily, I called them and asked if it was the same confirmation # for Air Canada. It was not, but they were able to give it to me. Otherwise, nothing would have worked on Air Canada because I would not have had a valid confirmation number. And here's a funny--the number ended in US. So I said US as in United States meaning both the U and the S. He said I was short one digit as he took United States only for the U when I meant both letters. 🤣, But, it was not hard to correct when I realized what had been done.😉
  10. I was just clarifying the terms, not meaning to criticize you for using the term paycheck. Our first cruise was later than yours, 2002 for our 25th anniversary. And I agree things have changed.
  11. That reminds me of our wonderful Bob Marley bus excursion in Ochos Rios, Jamaica. The bus driver would honk the horn as he went around every hairpin turn on a road that was only wide enough for one vehicle.
  12. And make sure that they will not surprise you with a fee for changing something, such as taking advantage of a fare reduction.
  13. That should be an option only if none other exists. If it is using a credit card, it will be treated as a cash advance and be very, very costly.
  14. I fully understand the stay closer due to elder caregiving. I was the do everything person for my late parents. Dad lived to be 101, and Mom almost 99. And thanks for the advice.
  15. We're waiting to sail on her in August. And it is truly wonderful to read posts about the Prima that aren't totally negative. We are going with the expectation that it will not be perfect (nothing ever is), but that we will have a wonderful cruise experience.
  16. Yes, good question, where has the time gone! We booked our first cruise for our 25th anniversary in 2002. Now in a few months we will be celebrating our 46th anniversary on a sea day between Norway and Iceland. Where has the time gone?!!!
  17. It's actually a commission check, not a paycheck. The employee working for the cruise company who you can book with does get a paycheck as he is an employee of the company.
  18. Yes, they get their money from the cruise line, and at the same time work for you as opposed to a cruise line employee who gets his money from the cruise line and works for them.
  19. As I wrote previously, DW has said that she does not want us to have to schlep the luggage to London. Also, if we were to do that we would have to check if we would have to go back to the airport to get our transfers. We have the NCL BOGO flights with a one day deviation so we can spend a day in London. Our TA has said he would have to check, but he believes that if you do the BOGO, they will only do the transfer from the airport.
  20. We would consider those times late for breakfast. Do you know how early they open? It should I assume be even less busy earlier.
  21. We just got our flights earlier this week from NCL, and flying United which I believe uses terminal 2. Could you share what hotels are there. DW does not want us to have to schlep our luggage into London. We also figure for transfers it is easier to be by an airport terminal.
  22. Another problem with a TA charging directly to the agency instead of the cruise line is you would lose out if there was one of the credit card offers where you get points or money back to your card when you book with the cruise line. Of course, that is not the main problem, but still worth mentioning. @RuthC, I hope you took this up with the cruisecritic management, as it is a major red flag, something one should avoid.
