  1. We never gamble. We don't do the extra charge dining. We don't do waterslides, etc.
  2. One has to wonder if the general principal of a lack of imagination and a defending of policies no matter how inane is limited to Norwegian Cruise Line. I have a feeling that most if not all cruise lines have this problem. Basically it comes down to those in customer service who answer the phones are not empowered to solve problems even if they understand the problem.
  3. If it was not for the article, this thread would have never been started. Also, we have to remember though we are all on cc because we are passionate about cruising, we are still just a small minority of the population of people who cruise.
  4. That is definitely getting sooner. It will be interesting to hear which of the many questions posed on the various cc threads are asked, and of course what answers are given. Does anyone know on which of those dates the panel discussion will be?
  5. We did it once. They did make sure you were aware of the requirement of showing your passport. And yes they did check before allowing you to board the train.
  6. Quoting myself 🤣, I guess they now seem to care as I would bet they are not enjoying the bad publicity and beginning to wonder if it is worth it not to reverse this.
  7. There is one time on a closed loop Alaska cruise including Canada that you will need a passport. I do not remember which Alaskan port it is in, but there is a train excursion that enters Canada. You will need to show your passport to board the train. Of course, no one has to do this particular excursion.
  8. You have to wonder how much the article had to do with this. Would Norwegian have done the same without the adverse publicity? I guess we will never know. But as others have said, it is good that they did reverse this. And does it really matter that the rules that they write allow them to do this cancellation? Does that make it right (morally as opposed to legally)?
  9. You could hope for a definitive answer if @Ferry_Watcher, who checks passengers in in Seattle sees this thread.
  10. Yes, the travel agent we use basically always gets us lower fares and is patient and wonderful at answering questions. As for one of the others you mentioned, for one of our cruises we booked a flight with the first one you mentioned. And then the airline changed the flight from direct to Fort Lauderdale to a stopover in Dallas. We might have got to Fort Lauderdale in time to wave goodbye to the cruise. A real TA would have done something, but they just basically said tough luck. (We did get the flight cancelled and used a different airline by calling the airline). And this, as you pointed out not a real TA, charged us (IIRC $15) for the service of booking a flight that became unworkable.
  11. or maybe because they don't care as long as they have the money from the fully paid cruise?
  12. Haven't you been posting for months on end that Carnival has to stop with these free or very cheap cruise prices? And now you say you may try booking them while they last! 😒
  13. Yes, simple economics. It is called the law of supply and demand.
  14. Yes, they have to realize any customer they do this to will never come back, and will probably spread the word about this. Not a good look for anyone looking to book an NCL ship.
  15. I'll be in my mid 90s by then, so I doubt it. I just hope I can keep up with our London to Reykjavik cruise this summer.
  16. Thanks, so you are saying the cartons do not fall apart when refilled several times?
  17. I thought they now have cartons. I'd prefer bottles as they are refillable.
  18. Repeating my earlier question, was $29 a special rate or is it an every day rate?
  19. @chengkp75 who spent his career as a chief engineer on cruise ships and conducted many drills does not agree with your opinion on the worth of the traditional muster for the crew. And the traditional muster, unlike all the drills for the other things you mentioned, provides the only chance for the crew to do a drill with the actual passengers.
  20. I hope the two of you post something about this meeting. 😊
  21. I guess I will not be arguing with you any more on this topic. I just told DW that NCL was the only cruise line that went back to the old traditional muster, but that they were going to the e-muster starting in April. Her reaction was good, I do not want to be standing so close to other people. However, I still think the new procedure does not adequately train the crew what to do in a real muster situation. I guess I will just have to pray one does not on our cruise. I realize the probability is that there will not be a real emergency situation, but you buy insurance hoping you do not need it and similarly you hope the crew will be ready if an emergency situation does occur.
  22. What the in person drill does is train the crew to handle all the passengers at once. This obviously does not happen in the new style e-muster.
  23. DW actually sends out lots of cards as she is the "minister of the cards" at her Church sending birthday cards, get well cards, condolence cards, etc.
