  1. Brooklyn is actually part of New York City. 🤦‍♂️
  2. For us it is easy; DW is a swimmer while I am not. She swims, I watch our stuff. Actually, on our very first port on our very first cruise, I do not remember the port name, but we went to Nice. (You could also go to Cannes or Monaco.) After visiting museums, she went for a swim in the Mediterranean. She plopped our stuff down near some topless French (at least I assume they were French) women. I admit to having been distracted! 😊 And if this makes me a dirty old man, what can I say. I am an American. 🤣
  3. Our cruise was well before Covid (2012), and we made all of our ports. But maybe people were not as interested in ports. One of the things we were really interested in (and paid for in advance) was an excursion from Marseilles to Arles. (Arles is where Van Gogh did most of his paintings) We were warned by the excursion people that it was not selling enough. I was also told by one of them that it was a great excursion and that he would push it. Then it was cancelled for not enough excursion tickets sold. How can you not get 10 or whatever low number you need not sold on a ship so large? And it was not like Marseilles was a port with a lot of DIY options.
  4. It is possible that it was just that cruise. I thought it was because the ship was so BIG. DW thought it was because we were in Europe, but as I wrote previously about half our cruises were in Europe, actually with one 10 years earlier with almost the same itinerary.
  5. Not in the Haven, but I guess your information might be useful to some others.
  6. Books glued together, that is strange. And I agree with you that physically holding a book is the way to go. Thank you for the information about the Observation Lodge.
  7. About half of our cruises have been port intensive European cruises. The only one that we felt that there was a lack of socializing was on the NCL Epic. (The others were on Princess, HAL, and Royal Caribbean.)
  8. I wish the answer was different 😢, but thanks for answering my question.
  9. I found the brochure from when we booked it last year, and it was 60% off then!
  10. How about the Prima? Does it have a library, or has NCL eliminated in on their newbuilds?
  11. We were off the ship in Dublin on a cruise waiting in line for the opening to see the Book of Kells. We spoke to the people near us in line who turned out to also be on the cruise. I guess this is the sort of positive social reaction among cruisers that you have referred to.
  12. Maybe, but I would still have wax in at least the one ear that really had a massive amount. The doctor came back expecting to have his room for the next patient. And the nurse and I told him it was only half done as she had just finished one ear. She said to me after he left that she was usually very fast, and the other ear was much quicker. I don't believe your do it yourself kit would have accomplished the complete cleaning of one ear. And I assume your do it yourself kit would not have been high technology.
  13. And here it is the next day, and no one yet has told me how I could have got the massive amount of earwax out of my ears using the magic of the smartphone and avoided paying a copay. 🤣
  14. If they have been doing it that way for years, they do not have the previously stated problem of having to renegotiate multiple contracts.
  15. And there is one more laundromat in town. And recently, a friend using it had to borrow money from me because it no longer would take his debit card to put money on his laundry card.
  16. We took that train excursion in Alaska that goes to Canada, and I can confirm that they definitely made you show your passport to take the train. But, for the cruise the OP will take, there should be no problem with needing to show passports for any excursion.
  17. But the debt is still there. That is only postponing it.
  18. They actually did install you have to use a card instead of quarters, but the only way to load money on the card is with cash. (And there is a sign about a charge for getting a new card because so many have been losing their cards.)
  19. Right, there is no place for anything but technology. I went to the doctor today and had wax cleaned out of my ears. Talk about low technology---they put a bib on you and then have you hold what looks like a mini bed pan by the ear being cleaned and shoot water into it. I don't know why they do this intead of aiming some I-device at you. Of course, you would have done it differently. Why go to the doctor when you can do e-med. And it would have told you to load the clean ear wax app on your smartphone.
  20. That does not take away from there are still places that only take cash.
  21. Maybe this is true where you live. But, for instance, I know laundromats where I live only take cash.
  22. That does not explain our experience on the Epic in 2012. See post #23 in this thread.
  23. Ok, you tell me how your new technology allows me if I have several $20 bills to turn them into 5s and 10s. Does your magic do everything smartphone do this and I am just not aware of it?
  24. Our first NCL cruise was in 2006 NY to Bermuda, and there was someone all over the NCL boards complaining about mac and cheese being on the menu given what they were spending for the cruise. As they say, different strokes for different folks.
