  1. So, someone on another site commented that the NCL reps have been told that this offer is for new bookings only (which it does say) - and to not just apply them to existing reservations. Which is in line with what's been reported in a few places. If true, you might get some pushback by going through your PCC or TA (who may have to call NCL). But in order to actually enforce it for the DIYers among us, they would need to get their IT department onboard and fix the glitch in the system that allows us mere mortals to add them at will LOL.
  2. Anything can change anytime. Or nothing changes at all. Politics, environmental concerns can be a big factor in where ships can go these days. Wars/political unrest will cancel ports of call. Ports sometimes decide they want to limit the # of cruise ships, may or may not honor prior commitments. Too much/too little rainfall can affect where a ship can go. So plan as best you can, if you are booking private excursions, choose ones that can be cancelled.
  3. Yes, the buffet on the Sky is quite small so there just isn't room to have a much variety. But it is also a smaller ship, half the capacity of the larger ships, so not as many passengers. Would it be nice if they expanded it - sure. But it's probably not going to happen. When I was on the Sky, the poor chef (Indian) got raked over the coals so to speak by a passenger (also Indian) at an officer Q&A because, in her words, there were a lot of Indians on board and he, of all people, should be more aware and provide a better variety of Indian foods. It actually got quite embarrassing because she kept at him. But if you took a look at the buffet, there simply wasn't enough room to have much more than a couple of main dishes (1 always indian) and some sides.
  4. You can always call, you never know. I'm only repeating information gleaned from the last Triple-Up promo. I got a tongue-lashing - and my post removed by the admin on another site - for posting "incorrect" information when I posted that you could go to MyNCL and make a payment using your certificate. Told in no uncertain terms that the promo was only for new reservations (which it does say) and that the ability to do so was merely a glitch in the system. A few people on that same site did say that their TA could not add a 3rd CNC. Note, the double-up promo always says new reservations also and we know that's not true!
  5. Wrong on both counts. It's a payment, no different than if you say you want to apply $250 on your credit card. And the offer goes through April 1, which is more than a week.
  6. If you booked directly with NCL you should be able to make a payment from your MyNCL account, using a certificate. If you used a TA, you have to call - they might be able to add a 3rd certificate, many could not the last time. Technically, the promo is for new bookings.
  7. I've never figured out the "saved" line - it's not always on my invoices. Some sort of accounting thing. I wouldn't worry about it if everything else is good.
  8. Never paid to have my laundry done....But I certainly use the free bag I get now!
  9. The cash-advance goes onto your casino account, so you would need to cash that out, in the casino, before you leave (or whenever you want it). To get cash, you'd go to one of the slots in the casino, access your account and make a charge to your account. Once you've done that, you would transfer the cash to the machine - play or not, your choice. Then cash out, take the receipt to the cashier. If you have problems, one of the casino staff can walk you through it.
  10. Nope. It's an "entertainment" expense, the 3% is a service fee. All under NCL as a purchase. And NCL is travel. So a travel expense on your CC.
  11. True, but I took the "how do I register her" as she would be there. But perhaps the question is about pre-cruise check-in, not actual check-in at the port. So yea, more info needed.
  12. Is she booked in the same cabin as her Aunt/Cousin? Or booked with you but planning to stay with the others? She will register according to her reservation, but easiest to just plan to check in together. You can use whatever credit card you want for her, they don't have to all be on the same card. If she is staying in another cabin, she can get a card that allows for access to that cabin.
  13. Yes, there is always the possibility that they can't wait. But in that case, NCL takes on the responsibility of getting you to the next port. Rare, but it can happen. On the other side, if you are on a private excursion and are late, they might wait for you IF you contact the ship and let them know the situation. In any case, if you call they will advise you on what to do, whether it be pick up your passport at the terminal or continue on your way to the ship, they are waiting. That was info given to us from the captain at a Q&A session, so not speculation.
  14. Excursions are posted when NCL has a final contract with the vendor. So could be years in advance - for places that they visit year after year. Could be just a few months prior to sailing - or even never in some ports. The only timeline that I know of is that they aren't posting the post-cruise excursions (port to airport) until day 50 - for their convenience of course.
  15. I do this all the time to collect points, although not to that extent since I usually have enough credits already. I rarely use cash in the casino, always figuring I might as well use my card. If I bring cash, it's just money out of my bank account. If I use the card, I get the points equal to the service charge - so a wash in the long run, should I simply choose to use a statement credit. But pretty profitable if I use it for an upgrade. My last 2 upgrades were worth over $2K each. No bank/tax issues that I'm aware of, although you'd have to watch your CC limits - and the ship might have something to say about it - or possibly a daily limit?
  16. I have the same situation which is possibly why my NCL experience has been better than it might be for people who live near a hub. For example, they flew me direct from Quebec to Rome. But I had to get to Quebec first obviously. I heard lots of complaining from people flying from Quebec because they didn't get a direct flight. People that have to get to a hub first will usually get first priority for the limited # of direct flights that are available to NCL.
  17. Heck, just before the shutdown some of us got upgrades more than 90 days out! Family OV was sold out and they needed those staterooms more than they needed balconies. It was a great cruise, Tahiti to Hawaii, super cheap (I think I was paying a little over $2K, airfare included). Really sad when it got cancelled. And the transpacific from Tokyo to Alaska next month is also sold out, according to the website.
  18. I think it's more of a "we'll fix it because we changed the cruise, therefore it's our problem" in the examples I gave. Since they made the reservation, they have the ability to make adjustments. And if they make a mistake, they will fix it (been there, done that with them). But too often the complaints are from those who didn't read the terms of the contract. No, they won't change your flights if your friends aren't on the same flight. No, they won't change your flights if you suddenly realize that flying in the day of your cruise isn't such a good idea. No, they don't assign seats, that's between you and the airline. No, you probably can't upgrade.
  19. Well, except that relying on that middleman sure makes it easier (usually) when things go wrong with the cruise. NCL rebooked flights for those on the Getaway yesterday. NCL rebooked flights for those on the Dawn last month. And just speculating but I would think Miami knew about the delays prior to passengers, so could get started with making new flight arrangements while everyone else scrambled trying to rebook flights over slooooow internet. And I've heard of at least 1 person on the Dawn whose insurance didn't cover the new flight costs since the issue was due to a government mandate. So win some, lose some LOL.
  20. Try calling you PCC - NCL doesn't bother to tell anyone if the rep has left. If you get through to the PCC, let them know that you've been emailing. If your call goes to the "next rep" you'll know that your PCC has left the building.
  21. Typically upgrade bid offers are available around day 110. I just go to the plusgrade website and check there, don't wait for notification from NCL - which you may or may not get.
  22. In a situation where they think they can resell the OV, then it would make sense for the lower bid to win - but that's not the usual situation these days with ships sailing full. In your example, OV would also possibly win, since they can then upgrade an inside to the vacated OV. Otherwise, the higher bid would win. But not because of how much is out of pocket - that makes no sense, since they already have what you paid. If your BA room only held 3 and your friends rooms held 4 for example, that could easily explain why their lower bid could have been chosen over yours. Same # of passengers in each room? That also makes a difference. I stand by my statements - bidding is to get MORE money, over and above what's already been paid. But that also doesn't mean the highest bid will win either. So we agree to disagree.
  23. Yea, in theory. I requested FCC at day 111 and it was denied. Autobot answer - no price drop and/or increase in airfare. I replied with the correct facts (there was a minor price drop, air prices had not changed) - autobot answer was no, airfare had increased. Lesson learned ALWAYS do a screen shot!!! As to timing for requesting FCC if you don't have airfare, the last I knew it was 14 (15?) days.
  24. Best I can suggest is to clear the cache on your computer - it may be trying to autofill info?
  25. You are understanding just fine IMHO. There is no logic in thinking that the price someone paid for a similar cabin would have any effect in the bid process. In the past, there have been instances of early upgrades when a category was sold out because they wanted the cabin for resale but I think those days are long gone, as ships are sailing at capacity. Otherwise, higher bid gets them the most money, regardless of what you originally paid.
